- As Canada’s top soldier, Gen. Wayne Eyre, is set to step down from his post as chief of the defence staff this summer, ‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson speaks with Gen. Eyre about the Canadian Armed Forces being a target of foreign interference. Gen. Eyre also discusses the state of Canada’s military, the major challenges during his tenure as CDS, and more.
Plus, how is the federal government navigating relations with foreign states alleged to have interfered in Canadian politics? Stephenson sits down Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly to discuss the impact of frosty Canada-India and Canada-China relations on her government’s Indo-Pacific strategy. Minister Joly also addresses calls for Canada to meet its NATO defence spending targets.

Joly was so impressed with Sergey that she sent a Canadian ship to dock in Havana beside the little Russian flotilla. Eyre is a complex man, and his rise to that position is one that was wildly unexpected at the time- but we sure lucked out. Had the chance to chat with him last fall and he really is everything a military leader can be expected to be.
