Hello friends!
I hope you enjoy this video where I show you how to take an ugly book and make it look pretty and vintage! :) Spring and summer + books means light academia aesthetic for me, so that's the theme I went for with these two. Have you read either of them? How do you feel about book covers? Do you care whether they're pretty or not? I'd love to hear your thoughts! :)
I learned how to make my books beautiful because of Cozykitsune here on youtube. She has an amazing video going into even more depth about how to do this, so definitely go check her out! She's amazing! :)

tbh the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" applies to everything except book covers tehe 😂
You speak the truth😅 sadly one of my favorite books has such an ugly cover and I always have to defend it when I recommend it someone because I don’t want them to judge it 😂
@@DarlingDesi what book is it?!
@@km356 it’s called A Walk Across The Sun by Corban Addison 🤍
@@DarlingDesi the cover seems beautiful, it’s like a sunset I’m not sure why it’s bad aha
Ikr
"Sometimes I don't get a book because the cover is ugly. I know it's bad but I do sometimes" I understand that on a deep level haha. 🤣🙈
So glad I’m not the only one 🙈
SAME
I totally do the same thing haha
Me too
same lol
I can't imagine anyone skipping the book haul. I love hearing about the books!
I mean I personally feel the same way 🙈 I’d never skip a book haul 📚 I’m kinda addicted to discovering new books ☺️
If there was a channel, instagram page whatever, only focused on darling desi book hauls, reviews and stuff I would totally follow it madly
Yes I subscribed to her because of her book videos!
Mee too!
That is my favourite part of any video 💕🌈💜🌼
For someone who “isn’t an artist,” you did great on the cover art! I’m an artist and I say you did an awesome job. 🎨
Oh my goodness thank you 🥺🙏🏻💗
@@DarlingDesi I second @ambergreene's comment! : - ) I'm also an artist and your lettering, color combinations, illustrations, and overall designs are smashing! Whether you identify as an artist or not, you are one! ✨😀❤
I like the rebuttal a friend of mine uses in regard to book covers: whenever someone says “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover” he says “well you also can’t read every book…”
I think there’s something to a magical looking book and these are, indeed, quite magical
everything about this channel is so magical! also that was a clever rebuttal, i'll use it next time someone tells me not to judge a book by its cover. :3
@@fairyfarms People say not to judge a book by its cover for a reason though lol
poor blurbs’ are far worst to me, especially when combined with poor covers. blurbs can mean you have a idea what you would be reading and a poor one means you don’t even read it.
My senior thesis class was about book publishing. The best thing my professor taught me: There is an entire marketing team behind each book cover; they are works of art made to be critiqued by the consumer. If you like a book and don't like the cover, the marketing team did not do their job.
Also, I just love your book covers!! You really should have gone into book publishing.
My daughter gets books instead of cards for her birthday- this has seriously inspired me to recreate the outsider covers special for her too!
I love that!! Definitely something I’d love to do for my future children 💗
I'd like to get books for my birthday! That'd be soo cool ToT
Covers attract me to a book, the first paragraph let’s me know if I’m going to purchase it(if I’m at a bookstore). I particularly love books I find at antique stores!
I totally feel ya there! The first thing I notice is the cover, so if it’s pretty, I’m more likely to walk over and pick it up.
Oh you make them look so Princesscore 💌
The roses definitely make it lean more towards princess/royalcore, you’re totally right 👑
💖😭
i was about to sleep since it's 1 AM here already, but i couldn't refrain myself from watching this immediately 🤧 honestly, tending to a book for it to "look pretty" doesn't just mean beautifying them, but it is also a form of expression in which love and care could be conveyed 🖤 (when we love something so much, we want them to last longer with us - to feel that they're a part of us so... 🙌)
Such a beautiful way to put it! I totally agree ☺️💗
Dude I'm deadass serious... it's 1 AM here too rn and i was gonna sleep and then came across this
I'm definitely going to look into What the Wind Knows. My mom is always looking for good time travel books, and that one sounds like it would be a great fit for her. I think this book craft would be great for decorating a bookish tea party wedding. Just pick up some cheap books from thrift store or library sale, have a crafting afternoon with your friends, and then you have some adorable, inexpensive table decor.
You HAVE to read it. It’s one of my favorite books of all time. All. Time.
Your hair looks so heavenly in this video, I love it! I always add so many books to my TBR when watching your videos, I keep having to pause after you show each book haha!
Hahaha that’s exactly how I always am when I watch book videos 😄
OMG THE DAUGHTER OF THE FOREST IS ONE OF MY FAVE BOOKS OF ALL TIME
I’m over halfway through!! It’s a bit darker than I thought it would be but I’m really enjoying it! 🙈
Does it have a lot of difficult words? I'm learning english and would love to read the book!
The second book in the sevenwaters series (Son of the Shadows) is my favorite book of all books ever. Love everythingf by Juliet Marillier.
the books turned out gorgeous!! those of us who are too afraid to do something permanent but still want the vibes to a book can also make book jackets! it will still look great on the shelf, but it will also be reversible!
(i still can't even write in a book lol)
“The Swan”….. the perfect song. 😭💖
That blue Great Gatsby cover is like one of the most iconic book covers of all time. it actually influenced Fitzgerald when he was finishing the novel.
I totally get that! 🤍 I just personally don’t love it, and I think that’s okay ☺️
I have three copies of Lord of the Rings (and the new edition with Tolkien’s art as the fourth when it comes out) and two copies of both the silmarillion and the hobbit, so I’m with you on the multiple copies thing
Same for me, I have 3 editions of the Hobbit (in different languages), but I still eye the one with the 1st edition cover whenever I see it in a book shop x) your comment made me think I might follow this video to cover the one I have with a movie picture on it (ergh)
OH MY GOSH!!! The cottingley Secret is the book behind one of my favourite movies: Fairytale: a true story!!! I had no idea there was a book!! 😍😍😍 I NEED IT.
OMG 2 POSTS IN A WEEK??? IM SO HAPPY RN SJDBDBDB gonna make me a snack and cuddle up in bed to watch this
It may ne exciting and awesome for us but the amount of work and editing that went into them, damn, she must be tired rn, hopefully our Darling Desi can rest now 🥺🥺 please don't overwork yourself 🥺
Trying to make up for my lack of consistency recently. I’m so happy that you’re happy! 💗💗💗
@@emraldsakura2201 I pushed myself maybe a little hard with this one, but I’m so happy it’s up and it was totally worth it ☺️
@@DarlingDesi 🥺 it is indeed very nice I mean I would be to scared to mess up making the beautiful vintage book covers 🥺 btw diary of an island girl on Instagram is actually me 🤣 I have many nicknames lol.
@@DarlingDesi oh and I have a recipe chanel diary of an island girl xD it's all Asian recipes though.
The books were so gorgeous!!
I love the boom hauls! I don't know why someone would skip it, it's so practical too!
I tend to do screenshots of every book you describe, so that later I can read it
Oh i do the same thing!! I have so many screenshots on my phone of people holding up books from youtube videos 🙈
There is a movie based off the same story as The Cottingley Secret. It’s called “Fairy Tale (a true story)” and it’s one of my favorite childhood movies 🧚🏼♀️ ✨
Omg I remember that movie but I didn’t know what it was called! Thank you I can finally rewatch it now 😭
@@elizabethzelaya6710 so happy I could help!! 🧚🏼♀️
Daughter of the Forest is one of my all time favourite books. I live in Ireland and it's such a beautiful country, I just wish it were warmer here 😅 The Wonder was an amazing book.
Loved your new book covers. I may have to do this on my Wordsworth editions, they have such ugly covers 😄
Not only I have a new project that I need to make as soon as possible, but now I also have a longer TBR. And I'm not complaining.
The diy could be a great Christmas gift too for a friend that loves books
Yes you are so right! You could personalize it based on their interests. Such a beautiful and meaningful present idea 🥰
I judge books by their covers and wines by their labels. I don’t drink wine myself (oh the headaches 🤕, so not worth it) but whenever I choose one as a gift, I pick it by how the label looks. And usually my friends love my choices. The same goes for books (which I very much do read myself 😁) unless there’s a good reason (strong recommendation) I will always start by looking at the cover, then the blurb on the back. Love your videos. 🥰
Desi, this is a beautiful diy idea! As someone who is very used to painting with acrylic though, I would caution people to be careful painting the edges so their book pages aren't stuck together ❤️ Love your videos!
Yes definitely! That’s why I mixed it with the tea water. Diluting it really helps the pages not stick together ☺️
I could watch this video over and over. 😍 The music, the process, everything is so wonderfully magical! 🌸☕✨🕯📔
Loves this. All of it. Just impulse bought most of those books you showed in the haul. Which, as a slow reader, will last me all summer. So thank you. 💜
AHH I don't know what came first, but there is a movie version of the story about the girls who took the fairy photos called Fairy Tale that I remember being absolutely LOVELY! Highly recommend checking it out!
“What the Wind Knows” is so fabulous. I listened to it on Audible. So so good.
I’m always listening for new book recommendations, thank you as always 😘 side note: about 20 years ago I had a friend show me how to cover books and journals like that and I loved doing it! Made me want to do it again ❤️
I dropped everything to watch this, because your videos always make my day. I also recently got the most beautiful teacups from my Grandma and was once again inspired to redecorate my room a little bit like yours!
I’d die of gratitude if I got teacups that had a story like that! All my teacups have come from strangers, but how magical it must be to have teacups come from a person in your life who has already lived such an incredible story. I love thinking about the life that items have had before I have them ☺️🤍
I just added What the Wind Knows into my Amazon cart! I can’t wait to read this on my summer vacation!
The covers look amazing! I really want to try using dried petals now. Another book series I think you'd enjoy is Belinda Muriel's Timeslip series, which does include time travel but in a really endearing way. It starts with The Locket of Dreams, where a girl travels back to 19th century Scotland and meets her ancestors, and while it's for a younger audience I get just as invested now as I did hiding in the library in primary school.
It's so wholesome to watch and engage with your videos all the way to the end... It's like I'm walking through a meadow although when they end its it's like finding out that it's a dream I have to wake up from 🥺
What a wonderful tutorial! Thank you! And all your books look amazing!! I love the one about the dragon getting a human for a pet! How cute!! 🐉🐉🐉
I have The Wonder! I picked up the hard cover version from Goodwill, it was gorgeous and very dark academia, so it caught my eye. Haven’t finished but I love the author’s writing style!
Love the vintage book transformations, I found your page recently & it gives me so much bliss. And I am a book lover & nerd especially love murder mysteries and cozy reads.
I love a book with gold or coloured edging. I am definitely going to do that ! Another beautiful video Desi xx
You have no idea how happy i get when dear darling desi posts 🕊☕️💖
I’m so happy 😭💗💗💗
Awesome! I do this too sometimes though I start with a pretty paper to jump start my creativity. I also do this for dollarstore journals. I love love love book hauls! Thank you for another great video. I know what I'm getting for my birthday.
Do I plan on painting my book covers? No. Is this one of my new favorite videos on CZcams? Yes!!!!!
Keep up the good work, I found this channel around a month ago and all I can say is that I’m so happy you do what you do!!!!!!
Edit: Scratch that part about not painting my books. I just finished this video completely and WOW I’ll be trying this on one of my books soon😄
I literally just added almost all the the books to my goodreads lists!🥰 so many more good books to read 📚
Wow I love how these books tired out!!!💓😚😙😁💙
I love how passionate you are when you talk about books! 💖
😮😮😮 I am obsessed with the Daughter of the Forest cover you did!!!! Those petals?? Absolutely gorgeous. 💛💛💛
you have become my source of serenity, positivity and inspiration. im so glad i found your channel! your content just speaks to my soul xoxo all the love
Your videos bring me so much joy, i feel as though i have been transported to wonderland and it feels to magical when watching your videos. I adore all your content and will happily rewatch it over, over and over again! Thank you Desi, for helping me escape 🤍
Such a peaceful and inspiring addition to my break from work. Thank you Desi for bringing a bit of sunshine to my life
I was so excited to see this in my feed!
I've been meaning to do something like this to my read-aloud copy of Ella Enchanted
Ohhh so many amazing things you could do for Ella Enchanted 😍
I love the way they turned out!! I love books so much xo
I immediately put most of the books you recommend on hold with Libby. Excited! You made the books look beautiful. The pedals were a great touch 💖
When i was little, we used to paint and handcrafted the school books every year . That was so much fun ❤️
I never really thought of changing book covers to match the aesthetic I like. Thank you for the idea abd tutorial!
This is so cool! I especially love how the daughter of old turned out. The font is just amazing!!!! I might have to try this, too.
Omg, Daughter of the Forest!! That's my favorite book of all time! 💜
I get so excited when she posts lol I was going to watch it right away but we’re on vacation so I couldn’t watch it til now haha! Please continue making videos like this it’s so aesthetically pleasing! 🪴🍄👒🌸💕✨✌🏼
So nice to credit Kenna for her beautiful work ♥️✨
Have you thought about just rebinding the books in a hardcover in something you've designed? Granted, painting the soft cover is one choice, I feel like it'll give it a much better "vibe" and protect the books better. Rebinding it surprisingly easy too! :]
Love this video and thank you so much for recommending Anne of Green Gables, currently watching the Netflix show and reading the books! Love her description of the nature! 😍😍😍
I am LOVING the two covers! Makes me want to try to do this myself. :)
if you're in a Scotland kick I highly recommend City of Ghosts by V.E. Schwab! It's literally perfect for spooky season and I loved it!! It's about a girl who can talk to ghosts and takes place in Edinburgh. The cover is spooky and adorable and the storytelling is beautiful!
It was such fun to get this pleasant surprise today - wasn’t expecting it. And as always, you never disappoint. Now I want to redo some of the covers of my journals as well as the covers of some tattered books that I picked up from some thrift stores. Thanks for the inspiration. 😊🙏🏻
Desi, you are honestly pure magic in human form. You absolute brighten my days with your videos and I honestly aspire to be as joyful and as beautiful as you. The other day I was trying to decide what to do with myself and without realizing it at first, I said out loud "what would Desi do?" And within seconds I got up and set out on a walk. I absolutely love your videos, and thank you for reminding me just how wonderfully romantic ordinary life is ✨💕
Just ordered ‘What the wind knows’. Sounds wonderful!
oh my gosh, I love this! The books look amazing and this inspired me so much, to do some of my books too! Thanks for your work and inspiration on this channel dear Darling Desi!
Daughter of the forest is so good!!!! And your design is beautiful 😍
I’ve got the UK edition of Ariadne. And it’s stunning.
Loved the book haul and how the covers turned out. So delicate and beautiful!
Your beautiful hair and general aesthetic shocks me anew every time I watch your vids 👗
🥺🥺🥺 thank you!
I'm always so blown away by your creative work.
For the record, I found you a couple of weeks ago and have seen all your videos to the very end. I LOVE YOUR WHOLE LIFE I’M LIVING THROUGH YOU. lol but really. Keep doing this please 🙏🏼 love you bunches ❤️
OH MY GOODNESS!!! I cannot wait to try this out!!! I’m always excited for your next video. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do in order to make these videos! ❤️😭
Thank you so much for being here and watching, Caroline! Makes the hard work more than worth it 💗☺️
Omg, the final book look, looks so good!!
You are so creative Desi! Now I want to try and beautify every book I own with presses flower petals 😍
The way I added every single one of these books to my TBR lol. You're going to love The Art of the English Murder, its terrific.
Wow I love how it turn out, so aesthetic and vinatagey!🤍🍂🥰
This are stunning! I love how they turned out!
Your new set up in your bedroom is absolutely magical! Good job! 😍❤️
So pretty especially adding the flowers!
They both turned out absolutely stunning!
I've been absolutely dying for more retellings if wild swans so I'll definitely be checking out Daughter of The Forest
I'm in LOVE with this idea!!! Great job!!
You are literally an inspiration✨🧚♂️🥺
Keep doing what you're doing I love you so much💖
The books turned out gorgeous! I love your videos, they give me so much inspiration for my everyday life. Thank you! ❤️
This is so crazy! I recently watched a video of yours where you recommended the book The Lost Ones, so I bought it and started reading it but they sent it to me without the sleeve! So it's this beautiful hardcover with no sleeve and it's totally plain, which is fine, but then you posted this video and I'm like ... omg.... PERFECT!
Wow, Desi, I am so continually inspired by you! I love how you put your own spin on those book covers - and you are DEFINITELY an artist! Both of the covers turned out stunningly! You are incredible and thank you for the video
I WISH I was this artistic sheesh… the dried rose petals are so cool
I love the way your videos make me feel gives me a place where I can just be happy. It's like my safe space. Thank you for that
Ooo I LOVE this craft idea! Perfect for journals too. Your books turned out SO beautifully Desi! 😍
The original cover of Daughter of the Forest when it first came out was so much better than the new release. Definitely more of a Medieval Ireland feel. Your rendition is so pretty! Great book recommendations! My TBR just doubled
Love this video, yes I always watch it all. Its so relaxing and aesthetically pleasing.
Love some of the book recommendations.
Many blessings 🙏
I AM OBSESSED WITH HOW THIS CAME OUT
I literally squealed when I saw you read “What The Wind Knows”, I KNEW you’d love it. It’s such an undiscovered treasure🥺🤍
I'm totally going to have to do this to one of my favourite books. I detest the cover, but this will make it stunning.
I hope you are having a lovely day. Your books turned out beautifully. 🙂
This was so lovely! Your book cover remakes are gorgeous. You are an incredible artist to be ale to do that! As always, your videos are so comforting, beautiful, and make me feel at home:) Love you, dear!
I absolutely love what you did to daughter of the forest!!!! It’s amazing 😍😍😍😍
Damn a mini book haul and an amazing DIY to make incredible book covers, you're seriously the best💜
I read the wonder it was good but also sad! Also putting books into my Amazon cart right now!!
It was sad, but the ending made up for it for me! 💗
This was such a good video and I may or may not need to do this. 😍😍😍 Also, the UK editions are always the prettiest 🥺😍.
Goodness i remember seeing that dragon book n thinking wow thankyou for sharing such lovely video and books. 🌸💖🌈
I love when I get to watch one of your videos in the morning so I can start my day with beautiful and cozy vibes!
They turn out really pretty! Would love to see the other way: taking beautiful covers and turning into journal/notebook. I Will try the one with dry flowers for sure! Thanks for another cozy vídeo (and o always stay to the end 💜)
