Handbrake was an absolute game changer for me when I had an iPod Classic. At one point I was able to fit the complete series of CSI (300+ episodes) on there.
You rock. I've been searching for something like this for a long time!
This is an excellent program. I don't use it very often so this video was very helpful as a refresher on how to use it. I sometimes download old video files that have low volume and it's great to be able to increase the volume gain for better playback. Thank you for the video.
Glad it was helpful! You're welcome.
This tutorial is great
I always love when you make things so easy like this one
Thank you! Cheers!
Wait, what? Going from 4K to 1080 is absolutely losing quality! Maybe 1080 is all you need for the device you want to watch it on, which is fine, but don't say you're not losing anything. I used to use handbrake to shrink some videos down to 480 to watch them on my phone, because the small screen didn't need them any bigger than that, and it saved a ton of storage space. But I would never try to watch those 480s on my PC or TV where I have a much bigger screen, because they just can't compete against the full 1080. It's literally the difference between a DVD (480) and a BluRay (1080) .
What you ought to be explaining here is how to optimize the video for the desired device. For instance, it makes no sense to play a 1080 video on a device that only has a 480 screen. (If you're still using something that only has 480 resolution, bless you.) Find the resolution for the device you're going to be watching the video on, and then match the video resolution to that. Sometimes, as with my phone, you can go lower than the native resolution just because the physical size of the screen is so small your eyes won't notice the difference. You might also be able to change the frame rate, say from 60 fps, to 30 fps. Still technically a loss in quality, but most of the time you probably won't notice. And for goodness sake, make sure to remind people not to delete or overwrite the original! You may wish you had it later.
he does not know what he is talking about. He does not even know the difference between H264 and H265
I shot a bunch of video on a Go Pro, 2 days of an Expo. Some clips are 25 minutes long and at the highest quality for the GoPro 11.
I am now trying to edit and make a video for CZcams. DaVinci Resolve is a bit intimidating for me so I went to Filmora 12 and even there, I'm experiencing lag once adding effects, music, text. I even clicked to create a proxy file. Would this program benefit me to then not experience lagging? I have 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD
(I'm very new to video editing and not super experienced with today's computers)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
This is a great program and a nice tutorial. I was looking for a program like this for a while.
SAVED MY LIFEEEEE! this app is better than encoder, better than after effects, better than davinci resolve AND ITS FREEEEE, im blown away
My main issue with this program is that it lacks an estimate of the filesize on that slider, so you could simply drag the slider right or left to the filesize of your choice. How it is now I have to try multiple times on every single file and it is very annoying. There is no way of telling in advance how big the file size will be because it can differ a lot even of similar files of the same file size and format.
Personally I want to change mkv files to mp4, and just set a cap on the file size output. Why this is not possible is beyond me.
Well done, sir. Thank you. Thumbs up!
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day
Great tutorial, thanks a lot👏
This doesn't need to be a 12 minutes long video.
Thank you!
so you don't think that converting 4k video to 1080p hd isn't losing quality.
hes talking about visual quality not the quality itself. obviously compressing a video will always result in less qualtiy but u can find a happy medium that brings the file size down to reasonable size but also at the least keep the image looking relatively sharp and clear. so yes it isnt lossless by a general term but by the human eye if u cant tellthe difference after compression that would be no visual loss but there is less data.
@@donrikk8546 nope, he's talking about converting a video from 4k to HD. That's different to compressing a video. Although of course you can do both at same time with for instance handbrake. You can compress a video using the appropriate codec, but not change the video resolution. Then yes I doubt if one could see the difference in quality. But no, if you convert a video from 4k to HD then yes you are going to see noticeable loss in quality, unless your blind, I suppose.
@@Ian_Woods most people above 30 years old can’t tell the difference between 4k and 1080p at there max respected bitrates if given a blind showing
@@Ian_Woods yeah this video is a big nothing burger, i was looking for specific settings, and the guy just walked through what any reasonable adult would figure out from the interface by themselves
hey Jamie, thank you for this great demonstration.
I have trouble compressing a 15 mins video (3 GB), it requires more than an hour and 20 minutes, is that normal?
Sometimes it can take a bit of time, I'm curious if you made an major adjustments to the settings.
@Teacher's Tech no, I did the same as you. Do you have any thoughts on working that out?
The tutorial is what I needed. Saved me a ton of work. Thanks you sir.
I concurr :)
This tutorial saved my project, and I love your energy! Thank you so much!
thanks for the tutorial.. greetings from PAKSITAN.. well want to ask that if it reduced the video size to 88 so is it a good size to repeat the process to make it more reduced??
Recommendations for preset and framerate for 650 MB movie that will be played on large screen? It's an iMovie 5 minutes with just 25 still images and music. Thank you!!
I like taking my BluRay rips and running them through Handbrake at high settings for 720p. I can’t tell the difference, and almost all of the people watching films with me can’t either. They also play back smoother on Plex over the network.
Looks just fine on my 4k TV.
I am just learning how to use Handbreak. I got a message saying Errors detected whist trying to read source. What do I do?
Thanks. I am ripping my 3D Blu-Rays for watching in goggles. Handbreak does the job after ripping and does it quickly.
Thanks! Hugs from a videomaker from Brazi!
Thank you! 😃
works for me thanks !!
even has discord present which is cool
thank you a lot
Can someone help me ? I am trynig to compress MOV file to H265 using handbreak, but when process end file is in mp4 and it only plays audio, not video showing. why ???
I went to the App Store on my MacBook Pro, but I couldn't find HandBrake. Any suggestions?
Here's the link handbrake.fr/
Mine does not show source preview when I load a file. Any ideas?
it kinda defeats the purpose when you compress a 4K video to 1080p,compressing 4K to 4K in x265 would be a better choice, unless your TV is a 1080p,if it is 4K TV you lose detail, one thing tough,it takes ages to compress a 4K gig+ video, even with a fast machine
Definitely, your device would be an important consideration.
Interesting... 5:05 - I've never used the Preview..
I've only disabled *Subtitles/Chapters* and
10:02 I also lower my Audio from 160 to 128 ,
_which does make a huge difference in the Size output_
Give it a try..and find out for yourself.
********************************************
But going from 4k to 1080, you ARE losing detail and therefor quality though??
Curious… do you think the majority of creators use this for for each CZcams video they post?!?
I don’t think so, I don’t use it for that purpose. I usually use ie when I’m sharing in other ways.
@@TeachersTech Thanks for the reply 👍
this didnt work for me it still has the same size
Version 1.6? Ihave 1.3. Time to update.
Every time I try to compressed it downloads as a Document.
This "tutorial" is the equivalent of a person teaching 90 year olds how to move the mouse cursor.
Compress 18 gig video to 3 gig without losing any quality! ??
With the device I was watching it on, I didn’t notice any, but I didn’t put them side by side.
Of course you're losing quality. It's practically clickbait. I kept on watching, waiting for the trick, but there is none apparently.
Some of my files became even larger after conversion.
This Didn’t Work At All!! It Said “No Valid Source Found”
I used Handbrake on a video and it came out a bigger file size after lol
unbelievable this is a 13 min video when I just want the settings and you dont even post them
because setting vary from video to video. play with the slider that says fucking quality, read what the info box says whewn u hover over the slider bar higher numbers less quality smaller file size smaller number larger file size more detail so play with the slider find a high number on the slider using the live preview to check and which ever high number comes out onb the preview as watchable and not bad looking then thats when u encode it. u can also play with other settings like he specifies like dropping it down in resolution while maintaining visual quality on the qualtiy bar or combine thos e 2 methods. u simply have to take the information this person in the video is giving u then use your damn brain to come up with solution. he gave you the needed information to make a decission and understand waht things do now its your turnto take this information so nicely given to you for free and use it to finish your product. that simple. stop getting mad at people giving you free fucking tutorials just because u cant comprehend how simple hes explained it to you. i figured out what he was saying in 5 minutes and ive only used handbrake 3 times in my life. so what does that say about you.
If anyone's looking for an actual tutorial related to the title, look elsewhere. This is a very cursory beginner's Handbrake overview with very little attention paid to the title's promises. Let me save you some time, he says to make the video smaller with the preset tab. Right on the front page, what everybody sees and adjusts for every video.
Thank you for costing me so many minutes when I just really need a serious solution for this problem. Why is it that anyone who's used handbrake a few times thinks they can be an authority on the subject? I've been using it for YEARS, and I would NEVER presume to think I could teach anyone anything about it. Dude. Change the title.
I would have appreciated knowing up front that you are going to put a watermark on the video. Trust is important even on the internet.
what r u talking about what watermark?
damn. tons of hate comments here
for real he gave plenty of info for me to compress my video to a quality that is satisfactory. the problem is peoples attention spans are zero now. they cant intake information and think for a few minutes and solve a problem they have to have someone else reach over their fucking shoulder and do it for them because they simply dont want to use their brains for themselves and problem solve using the information given to them. i mean the majority dont even understand that the reason he isnt listen specific settings is because setting very from video to video.
skip to 7 or 8 minutes to actually hear somewhat useful information
This is a how to use handbrake video not how to reduce file size without compromising video quality! What a waste of time
total waste of time
Useless crap! "Without Compromising Video Quality" - downscales from 4k to 1080p, effectively reducing quality to 25%...
i get an error opening .avi video
