I do like my diesels. They don't have anything like the chill vibe of the steamers - I've never just sat watching a diesel train chug along the main - but they just work. They're very low maintenance, just need fuelling every few days. I mainly fuel at Whittier which is the only diesel filler that you can drive a complete train past in the middle of a run. When anything gets low I just run it through the yard track there instead of the main, sorted. The switcher uses even less diesel than the road loco. My first GP9 was yellow, I like it :) Had a big shakeup on my road. I had the line open from Sylva to Alarka Junction with mostly level 1 contracts at every location. Then I thought about it and realised I was spending several real world hours over several real world days just to do one game day's switching and the game had become a second job. So I binned all the contracts except the coal mine, the sawmill, and the tannery (everything is in one yard, the paper mill uses both sides of the main). It was expensive but totally worth it. With only 3 contracts to service I could ramp them up to tier 4-5, now I just have to worry about their logs and pulpwood and interchange traffic, plus the house cars / Alarka line job site cars / passenger train, the money seems to be pouring in and it feels like things are actually progressing again.

Many first and early second generation diesels either loaded slowly or enough to squeal the wheels in 1st notch. GP9's have a 16 cylinder 2-stroke diesel. 8-cylinders per stack and some later ones had liberated exhaust of 4 cylinders per stack.

      I believe the GP9 was a 12 cylinder no?

If you dont factor in getting the "stand" diesel is only around 27cents a gallon. I found it works out better for me cause the steam when loaded HEAVY will drink water to no end and I've wound up with to many dead power units 😅

I have to say I’ve always really liked the sound of those EMD 567s! I think you’re right though that there needs to be more bass to the sound. The model looks pretty good! The cab is a little bare, but not too bad

    GP9s and GP7s are great!

early GP's used either 12 or 16 cylinder prime movers depending on the railroads requirements.

The EMD 567 isn’t an overly “bassy” engine it’s a 2 stroke supercharged diesel so it has a lot more of a droning whine. I will say the sound mixing is a bit anemic and dry. Hopefully they’ll include an Alco diesel that’ll be very noisy and bassy

I think it would look better in blue, but that’s personal preference. The model looks pretty good, but it just doesn’t sound right.
The GP9 had a 16 cylinder EMD 567 series engine, the “original” EMD engine block. It replaced the unreliable Winton 201A found in EMD’s very earliest models

I like the yellow, but the Fedora Orange would look great on it, too.

That sound is pretty much like the real engine of the period. I respect that for sure. I'm sure the working load sounds are a bit light, but overall, it nice.

It sounds like they used an inside cab recording to me. I spent many hours/days/weeks/years in the cab of roots blown engine. They have a very distinctive chatter and rumble outside.

I’m not sure if you’ve used it. But the way you can shift click on airlines to switch the turn the valves, shift clicking on couplers will close the valves when they decouple.

The yellow reminds me of Susquehanna & western locomotives. All it needs is 2 tone black.

Your going to find Diesel's to very fuel efficient. I ran one of my Freight assigned one run two full days with multi-trips before having to refuel. Possible spoiler when you buy the Diesel Fuel Tanks they come empty so you will need a full day cycle to get the actual fuel so at first its Car + Fuel cost then just fuel afterwards.

@@KerboOnYT Smart, also note the Diesel Station Revivors are 16K so if you front load your cost for fuel you should sit pretty for at least a couple of weeks before having to refuel so it makes the average cost much cheaper then coal, BTW I am enjoying the videos, me personally I kinda miss the longer ones but I understand most people dont consume on that level

If the yellow was a bit more subdued I'd really like it, but my first choice would be royal blue, second forest green, third battleship grey.
Also, I've seen people post up on the Steam discussion board that AI really struggles on steep grades.

Looks good just wish there were more diesel options. I’m kind of holding off dieselizing until the development team come out with more to choose from.
