- Late Saturday evening, Lily the German Shepherd was rushed to the emergency hospital and underwent surgery to save her life. Lily is now one of the lucky dogs that have survived Bloat or Gastric Dilatation Volvulus (GDV). It is crucial to know the signs because you only have hours to get them the surgery they need to survive. We are sharing Lily's experience in the hope it might save another dog's life. We only knew the signs ourselves because others had shared their own experiences.
We are so very happy to have our beautiful girl home and recovering.

I love how the dogs can only last so long through the informational videos and then all hell breaks loose😂😂😂😂

❤😂love it
Bloat is no joke. There is a 1+1 rule, 1 hour before and 1 hour after eating with no exercise. I was even stricter with my dogs, I applied a 2+2 rule with the dogs inside of the house lying down and not even walking around. On top of that, my dog bowls were elevated without having the dogs to bend down to eat. I am so glad that Lily made it through. Take good care of her!
I absolutely agree with you. We have always waited at least 30 minutes before and/or after exercise to feed our dogs. I remember watching a video of Shadow coming in to get her breakfast one morning after chasing birds and I mentioned the concern with bloat in the comments because Shadow was out of breath and started eating straight away.
That was really well expressed in a relaxed and casual way. Great Tilly is ok and back with the pack. Loved Moose getting in on the act ❤❤
You are awesome 💓
@@roslynhowarth9687It was Lilly not Tilly, this time round.
Bad night all round, I meant it under comments not as a reply and if course it was Lilly - sorry 😔
For Lily's healing! She is such a beautiful dog...and all other doggies are too.
Thank you for donating everytime there’s a new video ❤
You are awesome 💓
Goodness bless your great, giving heart, Zenon!😘
You are so generous and helpful for the farm💕 ein dickes Dankeschön 😊
So generous. 💜🐶❤️
My mother's Weimaraner survived his bloat thanks to her knowledge, fast actions, surgeon, and funds. His bloat was believed to have been caused by lentil soup.
Lilly's a lucky girl. 💜
In USA it’s sometimes called twisted gut syndrome. Deadly. So happy Lily survived.
Or flipped stomach.
Our Lily aka ‘The Stick Dancing Queen’ ……you beautiful majestic girl. Sam & Luke, you are marvels and so in tune with each and every dog and dingo and feline. Your home with your mum & dad, your Sam & Luke, and of course your siblings. Such invaluable information Sam & Luke, thank you. 🐾🐶💜
Agree❤❤❤
Aka One who dances with sticks
Aka Bossy Babe
😅❤
Till and Lil the attitude is part of that "You ain't gonna get rid of us that easy." There is way too much more fun waiting, more tires, more sticks.
Those girls are tough and we just adore them❤️🐾.
🫡 Here's to Major Tilly and Lieutenant Lily. Two of the strongest gals in the Farm Forces.
@@manypawsmanytales My 110Lb Dutch Sheppard bruised his leg chasing an opossum, he is 8 years old now. He would hold it up and hop on 3 legs, got a ramp for the steps, folding rated at 200 lbs. He looked at the ramp, looked back at me and refused the ramp. He has that attitude. He wanted a tree root, he ignored all else till he finally ripped it outta the ground.

My brother's labrador developed bloat for no apparent reason, luckily as he was lifted into the car to go to the vet his stomach miraculously flipped back and resulted in just needing some medication. Years ago my vet recommended leaving 2 hours before and after exercise when feeding, and encouraging them to rest after eating. I feed 2 small meals a day on his advice. Thank goodness Lilley has recovered, it is a dreadful emergency. Getting to the vet asap is so important.
Poor, darling Lily. She must have been in terrible pain. I'm so glad she is ok and recovering at home with her beloved family. ❤❤❤❤
So pleased that Lily is still with us. Good call Luke and Sam. ❤️
for lilly
😊😊😊😊😊
For stick dancing Lily.
Darling Lily, so glad to see you back at the Farm. ❤
I’m so happy you realized how distressed she was and took action to save her life..

Thanks for donating to the farm
Thank You, God that Lilly is saved.
Thanks for Lily or ........ ❤
Sweet Lily! So glad you recognized it and got her to urgent care so quickly so she was saved. Very important information for us all. Thank you. Bless you for your quick action.❤️🐾🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm so grateful Lily girl is okay❤
Thank you, God🙏🙏🙏 and may Lily & all 2 & 4 legged sweeties, stay healthy for a long, long time🥰🥰🥰
That poor BABY ! It breaks my heart to hear of a dog in distress ! I am so relieved she is going to be good again !
I have a good friend who got the bloat prevention surgery done on her Labrador retriever when she had him neutered at 2 years old. Bloat kills if it isn’t caught in time. I am so grateful our Lily is OK. ❤❤❤
I’m so glad and relieved Lilly is ok and safely back on the farm with you and all the others bless you and the vets for taking care of her.
Wonderful Lily, I'm so so happy that you are ok now. Sam and Luke thank you for taking such good care of your dogs. They all live in paradise at the farm.
"Million to one chances happen nine times out of ten" !!
Well done everyone involved!
My Rottweiler died of this in 1988…I will never forget it 😢

I just lost my Rottweilers (sisters) within 17 months apart and I’ll never forget them either 😢 I’m sorry for your loss 💔🌈
😢😢😢❤️❤️
Everyone, please let the Farm videos run, even through the ads, to help offset Lily's surgery cost. 💰 ❤ 🐾

@@Scot_WestTexasThe ads are super annoying tho aren't they?
Sorry to hear Lily went through this and so happy she survived. Sorry you had to witness it.
Our Labradoodle survived this 2 years ago at the age of 8. We had never heard of the condition. For 8 years we had fed and exercised our two labradoodles clueless. It was a simple playful frolic in the garden that caused it as they went outside to toilet. An hour later the symptoms were as you described, it was like he was trying to hide to die, he even went in the garden shed and got behind garden equipment. In the dark we were trying to get him out. I can’t say we noticed any bloating because if he wasn’t pacing about, he was trying to be sick which was horrible to watch .We travelled 30 mins to the 24 hour emergency vets. It was during covid so he was taken from us and all we could hear was his cries. The vet came to us and gravely said euthanasia or an operation he may not survive. They said it was a costly procedure and asked if he was insured, he wasn’t but we said try your best to save him. We were sent home close to midnight , 5 am we got a phone call to say he had survived the operation and spleen removed and stomach stitched but the next 24 hours were critical. 3 days later he was bounding into his usual vets for his post check up, they had expected a poorly dog after receiving his case notes. It breaks my heart that some dogs are euthanised just due to financial circumstances. However all the vets have said he was so lucky. Sometimes owners wake up to a deceased dog or come home to one. A year later he had specialist surgery for another unusual condition blocked salivary glands and seen by a top Vet. Almost to the day of the bloat. He’s one superdog. Sadly his brother didn’t survive an operation after eating a sock. So everyone also be careful what your dog gets hold of and eats. Seen many TikTok’s of dogs being chased when they have got hold of a sock, don’t turn it into a game.
I’m so happy Lily made it and thanks for sharing the symptons.
So glad your puppy made it through
@@fridaytaxThank you.
Wow, what a story. So glad it turned out okay for your baby.
Love and doggy hugs for the beautiful Lily 🩷🩷🐶🩷🩷
Thay were happy to have Lilly home last time, and howled at the moon
So grateful for Lily’s positive outcome. She is such a beautiful faithful girl and is worth fighting for. Heal well Lily girl. 💕💕💕💕
It’s terrifying my standard poodle had it. We were in thick snow and she started bringing up foam at 1 am in the morning - flew to the 24 hour vet - didn’t know if he could save her - she got the surgery and survived thank god
I'm si pleased you noticed that Lilly was not well, and you gig her to the vet was able to do the operation mediately ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank goodness you took the right steps from the signals she gave you. I'm so pleased she's okay now. 😘
This is such an important piece of info for all pet owners. Glad Lily is fine. ❤️
Thank goodness Lily had that stitch so it mitigates the chances of this happening again. So happy to hear she is better, and you were aware and able to get her to the vet as quickly as you did. We all love you and the doggos and kitties so much. Thanks for letting us all know what is going on. Hugs to all.
Thanks
So relieved that Lily has been sorted so quickly. This condition is also a major health threat for pet rabbits. It's like gut stasis which needs swift intervention.
Thanks!
I’m so pleased Lily is ok
Hi Sam and Luke - my sisters one year old German Shepherd just got desexed last week and the Vet actually suggested to them that they get her stomach stitched to whereever they stitch it to in order to prevent GDV - my sister had never heard of the condition so they had it done. They have a 12 year old German Shepherd that hasn't had it done.
Thanks! Texas loving Lily and all y’all do!!
❤💕
Oh Lilly I am so glad you are better. Sending you all love light peace and most of all good health. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks! So thankful that you have put out this video. Excellent information to help us all monitor and watch our dogs for GVD.
❤❤ So glad that beautiful Lilly is well and bach home ❤❤❤
Just as an aside, Moose seems to have emboldened Hope to behave much more playfully ❤❤😊
Precious Lily girl. ❤ Thank goodness she is recovering so well. ❤ Thankful for the update.❤
Thank goodness you two are such caring owners. Lily is blessed. I'm so happy she is ok.💕
❤😊❤LOVELY LILY❤😊❤
I am SO happy to hear our precious Lily is OK. Thank you Sam and Luke!!
I am so relieved for you all. Lilly looks pretty good. Rover is close by which is to be expected. Moose wants something to happen. Sometimes I think he thinks he’s a little dog so he needs to be picked up and cuddled. I love the mayhem at the end. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
We love you all 🥰 thanks for the education ❤️ from Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
So happy that Lily was able to be saved.
I very sadly lost my little dog to this, unfortunately I came home from work to find her dead. My vet performed an autopsy to determine why she had passed away and at the time found she had a chest deformity which may have been a factor. Terribly distressing and heartbreaking. 💔😪
@krissyj2369 Ah Krissy, that's so sad ...I'm so sorry for your loss.🙏
I'm so sorry. My condolences.
How awful.
It seems awful to 'like' such a sad comment. Wish there were emojis on the thumbs up button like there are on Facebook.
Phew so glad you managed to get her to Hospital in time, the farm wouldn't be the same without the Stick Dancing Queen.
Of course it is going to happen one day but we all want our loved ones to just pass peacefully with no pain don't we?
So stressful going thru all the process of emergency surgery, wonderful outcome for the sweet, sweet Lily. She’s so special ❤️❤️
Such a happy ending to a very scary story! So glad she’s feeling better, lots of love to Lily and the rest of the pack!🐶❤️🥰
Beautiful beautiful Lilly and so well spotted Sam ❤❤❤❤
Lily💘We love you dearly 🥰Thankfully your okay🥲🙏Sam & Luke are the greatest caregivers❤️🔥
Thank you for sharing this valuable information. So glad Lily had a good outcome 🐶❤️
Thank you for sharing, this is very important to know! I mean what would we do without the beautiful brown eyed Lily? I Love you, Lily!
Poor Lilly and poor you! What a trauma and stress….but a very happy outcome. Thanks for the info.
Thank goodness Lily is alright. I'm sure it was a terrible fright. How amazing that you recognized the signs and symptoms when you saw them. Now, you sharing what to look for could save another dog, like Lily was saved.🖤🤍🤎 Every blessing to you and all the creatures under your care. Love from Ottawa...❤❤❤
🙂🙂I was wondering which dog was knocking you both off balance...Moose! Great goofy boy! Might have known!🙂🙂
Poor Lily! Nothing more stressful than an animal in pain and distress. Thank you for sharing this story. Thankful for the happy ending but I also know that sometimes this causes death. As a longterm dog Owner/lover, even if death is the outcome, the most important thing to me is that the Animal is not longterm suffering ❤
Oh my gosh poor Lily how horrific. So glad she is okay
❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾❤🐾
Thank goodness Lily got operated on in time and outcome so great. Fantastic. So very important to know these things.
Moose is a big boy, so much bigger than Hope. He is such a dynamic, bouncy, over the top Boxer. Boxers have such huge personalities. I love them but would be too much for me. They all should be called Tigger for the bounce but Moose suits his name so well. I love how he just bounces over the other large dogs like they are nothing. My goodness he is one happy, happy lad. All your animals are living in heaven on earth - it's just so blissful to see.
Lily's coming home was just delightful, especially her welcome from Freddo. He was just so thrilled to have her back, checked her out thoroughly then hugged her side, sniffing to make sure all was well.
I am so very thrilled for you all. ❤❤❤❤❤
So good to see Lily back at the Farm, giving Miss Violet the what-for!! LOL!!! Thank you for explaining what the signs are. Moose reminds me so much of Bandit Boy!! Both cheeky boys!! Great to see Gus!!! ❤❤❤
❤ Lily ❤
Speedy recovery ❤️🩹 Lily 🐾🙏
We are all so thankful for the successful outcome of Lily’s surgery! Thank goodness she will be around to perform her dances with sticks for a long time to come!! You both are such loving and watchful owners! Bless you!! ❤️
So thankful to hear that Lily is doing well. Thank you for sharing this important information about GDV.
Thank you dear Sam and Luke for the invaluable and informative update on darling Lily, such a blessing for you all that she is doing so well. It is a joy to see Lily back with her adored family, and to you both for recognising the problem so quickly, and to SASH for their amazing treatment. Sending love and prayers to you all and a big hug to Lily. Hxx❤️❤️❤️🙏🐕🌟
Agree🥰🏜🌞😎🌵👍👋
Thank you Sam and Luke. A lot of people know about it now and can pass the story on 🙂
Very good video, thank you 😘🦘
We commonly know it as bloat here in the uk or gastric torsion. Irish Wolfhound owners and other large breed owners recommend feeding from a high raised feeder along with the other preventions you mentioned. Glad you caught Lily quickly and she's on the mend ❤
Enough excitement medically for The Farm! I'm so very grateful for SASH and their hard work on Lilly but can we have a nice boring autumn and winter please?!?! Thank goodness Luke and Sam are so aware of the antics of each and every being under their roof which gives Lilly another day to dance!
Kudos to Luke and Sam on being “in tune” mentally and physically with the pack to realize Lily was in trouble. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤗
So happy that Queen Lily still reigns! 👑💗
I am glad that precious Lily is OK now. She must have felt so miserable and anxious. Poor precious girl. She is still a puppy at heart. I wish Lily and you many more years together.
It happened to my dog too due to a change of diet (cold pressed kibbles instead of his usual balanced home cooked meal).
I immediately recognized the first signs of GDV and rushed him to the emergency clinic. Thankfully the vets did a great job and all went beautifully, he didn't even need surgery because the process was just started. My dog is 16 yo now and a total joy.
Exercise right before or after the meal, abrupt change in diet, morphology (large chest), genetics are the main factors.
I worked at an emergency vet and we also advised our clients to elevate the bowl when the dogs eat. Put the bowl on a surface where they don’t have to put their head down to eat. ❤
Wow. Poor Lilly...so so glad you are so on the alert to getting her straight to vets some times we wait. To long...your marvellous... love to Lilly and big hugs. Xxxx ❤❤❤ 🫣🙆🙋🙏🫶🫶💐
So glad Lily has survived this deadly stomach bloat. You are very observent parents.
Thank goodness you were able to deal with it quickly
My family is so grateful that Lily is back at the farm & safe. We send you so much love & hugs.
Going to donate a little something on your site after finishing the video. It all helps!!!
Just donated AU $20!! Get well Lily!!!
Thank you so much for telling other people about this awful complaint. It happened to my Weimaraner for no known reason and only because I knew him so well and had some medical training I got him to the vet in time and he was given surgery and he survived happily for another 6 years after that. Heal well and fast lovely Lily. ❤
Glad Lily is ok
It would be so fun to have a second camera set up for a behind the scenes of what goes on during your video chats. That was quite cute at the end! Thank you for the valuable info, always a good reminder. 🇨🇦
I like that idea!!
Shit, I’ve , never heard of it before in my life. Thank goodness, you saved Lily in time 🥰🙏🌻🍀👌
Thanks Sam and Luke for doing this video. I'm sure it will be an eye opener to some. Sorry you had to relive the stress. A little comedy relief from Mad Moose is a perfect ending. Big hugs and kisses for Lily too 💗💗💗
Praying for Lily God love her!
I've learned to ALWAYS trust my gut feeling about just about everything. As a nurse, I quickly learned that rationalizing can get patients into trouble. Women have a stronger intuition than men and Sam was very wise to pay heed to it. ❤
Many wise words spoken here, especially about listening to your gut instinct first and foremost. This of course can be expressed towards many events in our lives. Rationalization takes away precious minutes from what can be a better outcome. Thank you for your wise words.
What a blessing that sweet Lily is ok and recovering. Lily is equally blessed to have such loving and caring parents to take such good care of her. ❤
Agree
Hope you're feeling better soon lilly 💗
❤️ LILY ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍🌹🌹🌹
Excellent information and well done on your quick thinking, action and the skilled Sash team. Well done 👏 Lily is such a wonderful girl pleased she's healing at home.❤
Poor Lily. So thankful she is going to be ok, but the fear factor definitely came across from Luke and Sam. A worthwhile video to share the knowledge and to potentially save the life of another dog and the horrendous stress of owners. Thank You Luke and Sam!
Lily!! You beautiful girl❤.. I'm not gonna cry! So thankful she's going to be ok!! She already has a long journey ahead of her that she has to face! We ❤you Lily!!
