  • This is the method I use to make my Tarot boxes. It is not perfect but it works for me. It is a two part box and highly customizable. This box was slightly rushed for the purpose of making the video. You can avoid the mistakes I made in the video by taking your time.
This technique was borrowed from ‪@DASBookbinding‬ . Special thank you to Darryn. My box is slightly modified from the one made by him in this video. Thanks for watching.
    Here is the original video.

    Buy acid-free board👍. It’s worth it.
I lined my boxes with felt.
    Great video. 👏

Yay can’t wait to see what you come up with. It’s really fun and addictive 😂 I have them allover the house. Mostly my worst boxes filled with all sorts of Knick knacks. The good ones I always give away 💙☘️ thank you my friend

Yay! You did it! Great design. I love how the structure is strengthened with the long side pieces holding the box together. I've made 5 boxes winging it and can't wait to try this design! This structure with the cardstock base holding the pieces together is brilliant. Good job on the editing, too, Well done,Justin 👏🎁📦🃏🎴📜🥛🖌📏📐

Justin......EXCELLENT tutorial! I just bought a book on box-making. It uses all materials for bookbinding. The authors treat box making like an art form. I think I'll use your technique and the techniques described in the book. It was very helpful seeing it done in real time. You're an excellent teacher. Thank you!

Lovely Frances thank you soo much!! Which book did you get!? I may have to check that out. I watch Das Bookbinding channel a lot. He’s super helpful. I linked that below. Thank you for your nice compliment. I’m glad you liked the video. 💙 Hope it helps. Feel free to experiment! Let me know how it goes 🥰

@@justinmichaeltarot Hi, Justin. The book is Constructing & Covering Boxes (The Art and Craft of Box Making). I got it from Thriftbooks. The boxes, pictured, are gorgeous.

Awesome work sir! I like the Part 1 aspect of your title. What a fun series you can have here. I totally wrecked my last tarot deck project using the wrong adhesive and remember now about the PBA alkaline glue used for binding. I have to pick some up and try again. I guess I’m going to need a nice box when I finally get the deck right. Thanks again for sharing and best wishes from Baltimore!

Aww thank you!! printing cards can be tricky. Feel free to send me a message and I may be able to give you advice for making your own cards. The key is printing on real ink in my opinion. I made the mistake of using laser for the longest time. There are ways to do that but not with the historic method. And the paper is super important as well as a soap finish. This works well for historic/block printed style. My next video will be on card making. Thanks again

So glad I saw this, Justin, thank you.
After making strong and characterful (!) but badly fitting boxes with lids and sort of match box styles, I did got the hang of making tuck boxes. I love this one you’ve shown here. You’ve well attended to the maths, which is a lesson for me! PVA is so good for making things strong. I like your use of clamps. Awesome box.

I'm happy to have a handmade box from you. 😊👍
I would enjoy seeing more of your creative endeavors .. as it seems quite a few tarot folks are sharing more craft inspired videos these days.
Happy holidays.. I hope we can reconnect soon! 🎄

Thank you! So nice to see the process of making a nice box. Grateful for the materials list and reference to bookbinding glues and card stock.
I think it would be fun to try covering with bookbinding cloth for that textured book feel.
Takes a lot of work to make vids like this. Thank you for spending the time.

Awesome great video. Do you know if there's any way to acquire the belline tarot without spending 1000 bucks? Like can you have it printed anywhere? Just figured you would know ...

There is no end to your talents! I would imagine it’s very satisfying when you have created a box for a deck you have created too.
By the way, did you see the Glide I sent you a week or so ago?

Aw thanks Simon. Totally. The first time i did that was pretty cool. I’m still shopping around for paper to cover them with. This metallic wrapping paper is not bad. I have some I’ve done in Italian marble that came out pretty nice. Most of my nicer boxes were gifted away 😂 I didn’t see your glide I’ll watch on the way to work. Thanks for the nudge my friend. And thanks for watching 💙

  • @tierraprincessofwands

Oh! This is super crafty and helpful. I need one for my playing cards, thanks😊
