  • Christophe Poncet is a Parisian Tarot enthusiast, known for his restoration of the Nicolas Conver - and his documentary film, Les Mystères Du Tarot De Marseille (The Mysteries of the Tarot de Marseille) which takes an interesting position linking the so-called Tarot De Marseille to Marsilio Ficcino and the Italian Renaissance. In 2023, Poncet will publish a three-volume book called the Tarot of Marsilio, with Scarlet Imprint, which will explore the origins of the so-called Tarot of Marseille.
His film may be found here on CZcams:

I love CZcams! So many interesting, amazing things and people. So easy to learn things! Plus, you can take a brain break and watch people shake their butts, then investigate everything from tarot cards to string theory and everything in between 😊

Justin, this was so great. I am lucky to have a copy his wonderful deck. I have rounded the corners and am in the process of soaping the cards so they will slide. Luckily my hands are just large enough to shuffle the deck. In our day and age where everything is so fast and superficial, it was a pleasure to hear Christophe tell us about all the history and research he has done. It will make our reading of the T de M so much richer after reading his books and discovering all the connections between various interests like religion, myth, history, alchemy, philosophy, etc. This video was worth every minute. Love and gratitude, Anne

One of your most informative interviews, Justin. Sounds like it’s going to be quite a book! Only thing I’m fretting about: 3 vols with great production values… will I be able to afford it?

Thank you!! Yes and it’s going to be published through Scarlet Imprint which is a specialty publisher. Their books are incredible. But will likely be a tad pricier. Check out their website. They have different tiers of books available

Thank you so much - I could have listened to him for hours. I recall Ficino from college but never made the association to tarot.

Thanks Gina!! His theories are fun and interesting. I’m looking forward to his book simply for the philosophical concepts that will certainly be covered. Even if he isn’t 100% correct about all the details, there is much to be learned from him. What I like most about him is he is learning directly from the tarot. It’s so fun to listen to him

We wanted a historically authentic deck, so we made a new one!

He didn’t actually make a new one though. He released a Conver which was restored to his liking.

1440's actually, although your dating does allow for the influence of Ficino.
The Sun is Eos/Aurora & her two sons Emathion & Memnon, one who built the walls of Babylon to keep darkness at bay & who died for who Eos cried the tears that are the morning dew, the card represents Dawn or a dawning.
The Tarot wasn't invented to represent a particular teaching as all the images go way back before being put together as the Tarot, although I do agree artists of the Renaissence would have had a interest & knowledge of mythological symbolism & Neo-Platonism.

Hey thanks for watching and commenting. This was fun. These are the views of Christophe Poncet. Not my own. I find him interesting and fun but I do not personally agree with all of his conclusions. I still love talking to him.
