It’s 5AM here in California... I’m jet lagged to hell, wide awake - just thought I’d say thanks and hello to all the nice people who watch our videos!
Hello bro... Miss ya...
Rob Chapman your welcome
Pip Pip Cheri o and all that rot... we love you man... :)
Hullo Robert
'Sup, Punk?! Yer still jetlagged??
That G&L Fallout Tribute is a ridiculously good guitar for the money. It's my favorite guitar right now and one of my least expensive ones too.
Thanks again and hello from our new channel 🙏
The first guitar I started practicing with was my music teacher's G&L ASAT Classic Tribute, in blueburst with a pearl scratchplate. After the class ended, he took it back, but a few years later I found it in a local music story, and was able to buy it for myself. I still have it, and have no plans of letting it go.
I own a G&L fallout and I love it, blues, rock even jazz, this guitar plays great.
Nice one Rob and Cap!! That intro was great!
I am thoroughly impressed with the videos you folks put out, I enjoy watching them and hope to have a G&L ASAST soon.
I came for the ASAT Classic, but fell in love with an S-500. It sounds so powerful, like a strat on steroids.
Love Andertons and their reviews: Highly informed & knowledgeable, great playing, and entertaining. What more could a guitar addict desire? I'm an American and always feel the British do the best, most creative rock. How could one argue? Oh, and great reviews sprinkled with humor. Thanks guys!
I like the Fallout, and more than likely be my next fiddle...
I have the S-500 and really dig it
Tribute is totally fine with me
Thanks for all your vids guys, both of you two do a great job !
Lee's leadwork is so lovely to listen to, he's really improved.
Would be much better to have 'Danish' Pete do videos with guitars that are not exactly geared as "shred" machines. Not everything should be played like its an Ibanez.
If you're Rob Chapman, yes, yes it should.
Yeah, I really admire Pete's playing. It's nuanced and exceptional, and not screechy or annoying. I must say, I fast-forward when Rob plays, my ears thank me for it. However, Rob should be on board when a shredding guitar is being demo'd.
That's not even shredding, jealous noob.
@@outsiderdf No shit, he was trying to emphasise his point by using a hyperbole. Are you slow or something? Has nothing to do with jealousy you brainlet. He's simply not playing the style people want to see it being demo'd.
18:45 Rob's playing finally shows us how he can make a guitar sings. Wow!
Fun watching you boys, as always
I don't understand why more people don't play G&Ls. I own a few vintage and modern G&Ls, including an L2000 Tribute, and in terms of build quality and consistency they are superior to Fender, IMO, and were a Leo company too.
pjmuck probably because of marketing. Fender just has a such a large presence in the mind of the general population. Most of your average starting guitarists probably have no idea that g&l was a Leo company and see them as another company making “fender knockoffs” and figure they’d rather have the “real thing.” That’s what I think at least. I know I didn’t know that fact until I had been playing for a few years.
What do you think of the bluesboy? thinking about picking it up
@@larshomestead8921 i'd got for the Special with the hot single/p90 hybrids
G&l is far better than the best Usa fenders, custom
I think it's a matter of overall vibe, marketing, and maybe pricing.
First of all, the vibe. If you picture a G&L, it probably just looks like a Fender, and those body styles are everywhere. If you don't know or care about guitars, and you see a strat-shaped object, you probably just think it's a Fender, if you know brands at all, but more likely, it just looks like a guitar. To the layperson, a Strat and a Les Paul are just what guitars look like. Period. I doubt most people notice the differences between an Ibanez RG and a Fender Strat or between an LTD Eclipse and a Gibson Les Paul. Some, who tried to pickup guitar at some point as a kid, might think of a Squier even, but they're pretty universally used body shapes is my point. (and honestly, I don't think non-guitar people know that headstocks are brand identifiers, and they don't care, so they don't look there. I never did before I got into guitars.) Just think of how many knock-off strats and teles there are. More brands than you can even count. To the layperson, a G&L is just another guitar.
From a marketing perspective, Fender is a total shill. I get a TON of Fender ads on CZcams alone, but I've never once seen a G&L ad anywhere on the internet. and Fender is pretty good at telling the public about their budget Squier lines, so it is known that Fender has entry level instruments (say sub-$300 category).
G&L has their Tribute line which can be "less expensive" than the average guitar (I think of average as being about $500 to $600 for someone who wants a good one, but doesn't want to be a professional), but they don't drop to the super beginner entry-level pricing. Tribute pricing is about in line with Squier's Classic Vibe line, usually above $400. Due to brand loyalty, I think many people just stick with what they know if they upgrade from there, or if they branch out, they go for something they are told about (this is why ads exist) or they see being played by artists they like, so maybe they'll go to an Ibanez or something. There aren't a lot of what I would consider to be high profile G&L users (looking through the list of G&L artists, I think you really need to have some wide music knowledge to know many of the artists), and very few signature models. And signature models are pure marketing.
I think G&L is and wants to be one of those brands for people in the know. They sell to those already in the market rather than selling to get people into the market.
I also kind of feel like their guitars are their way of selling their pickups. I don't see those pickups anywhere else really, and let's be real, if you're into pickups, you're not really the average guitarist. I feel like you've reached guitar nerd status when you want to start swapping pickups around. Ask people on the street, and they've heard of guitar brands, but I bet most wouldn't be familiar with pickup brands. They may be more ubiquitous across brands, but people rarely know component brands in anything they're only vaguely familiar. For example, even if they own a $500 Ibanez, a bedroom guitarist may not know they're using EMG pickups or Seymore Duncans.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED Talk... (sorry) lol
Those Fallouts are KILLER. Honestly... if you need a guitar to just bring the rock... get one.
Great playing guys, nice guitars.
I know this is a older Vid, But I loved it!, I am retired now and haven't played much guitar in about 20 years, I bought a used but in mint condition Tribute Legacy in surf green at a local music store, After playing several New guitars, The store staff handed me this Used G&L, I didn't like the color and and told them this guitar is not for me, And he asked me to play it for a bit, So I did. I ended up Buying that guitar because it sounded really good, And thought OK I can always repaint it, Sheese, I have grown to love it and will not paint it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat , Thanks and keep playing!
My local shop sells these guitars like crazy! Very high demand for them. They are built like tanks and sound like any great tone you've heard from the 60s up to the mid 2000's
The Fallout is an absolutely disgustingly good guitar. I tried one at a local shop, and within 10 minutes ended up wanting it. Long story short it's probably the best sub £500 non "heritage" style guitar I've ever played. The attention to detail in G&L stuff is staggering.
I couldn't agree with you more. I love that guitar
Hello. The year has passed but still. How was the neck? Thinking of ordering one, but local stores in my country do not sell G&L at all. I’m using Squier Affinity Stratocaster right now, it’s my first electric and now I need something higher quality, with the different shape and better sounding. I’ve decided that I need something with humbucker to avoid noises at high gain and it has to be pretty versatile. I think the Fallout is the way to go. So the only thing I need to know is how it feels, especially in comparison with Stratocaster. Thanks.
Thanks for this video, I was at 99% sure I wanted the Fallout, now I'm 150%.
Owned a G&l legacy tribute for a few years, it was seriously good. Outgunned my Mex Fender. Kept the Fender because of the badge, not sure that was the right decision!
the end jam was F 'in Awesome!
fantastic tone and playing lee
Greetings from SE Louisiana, y'all!
Specs Update: G&L Indonesia is using rosewood again on the Tribute Series.
The CITES regulations on rosewood have been relaxed.
I just bought an ASAT Tribute Deluxe in Irish Ale and it's a superb axe.
Picked up the Irish Ale Legacy Tribute. Absolutely love it. Next I want the Irish Ale ASAT tribute. G&L are awesome guitars. Not just for the money.
Just going down memory lane here.
I remember watching this video 5 years ago and 1 months later I was the proud owner of a Butterscotch Tribute ASAT Classic...A really lovely player!
Always look for an Andertons recommendation when ever I try a new guitar!
Just out of interest how much time is spent setting up the guitars before you demo them on vid or are they played straight out if the box
I got myself a Tribute ASAT Classic LE and liked it. But then I gave it to my luthier to give it a little TLC with setup and fret touch up. I also had him shave the neck at the block for a smoother transition at the highest frets. Given the satin clear finish on the neck to start with you can't see that it's been done at all. I have several much more expensive guitars and this is my #2. It plays like a guitar several times it's cost. If you get an Indonesian Tribute guitar and are less than loving it there is a real chance a few bucks at your luthier will bring it into a value range higher than what you paid, including the luthier cost. The foundation of these guitars are REALLY good. It's sort of the nature of inexpensive imports to be a bit of a hit and miss. But don't give up on the G&Ls if they aren't perfect straight out of the box because they really are great.
Hi Guys - Great video - Please be aware the the pickups in the Tributes today are no longer US made, but are made under license in Indonesia.
The captain guitar skills have improved! Not that I ever thought he was inferior in anyway.
Don't know if it's the lessons he's been having, but the Captain's playing really seems to be getting more melodic - really going for soulful, good notes in that jam at the end!
Yes. Very nice!
Chappers: Picks up a 'Bluesboy', shreds.
At least we now know what pinch harmonics sound like on every guitar they stock
lol!
Can't get mad at the Leopard for having spots.
I've known many guitarist like that. In the 80s and 90s, shredding was the thing. In LA, big hair and ear-piercing shredding was hot. We're not in the 90s anymore and not many care about shredding solos. In fact, it's probably just that - the shredding solos - that have turned off so many young musicians. Stop shredding already. It's not even musical. It's just exercises with too much gain and distortion.
@@lydmo8287 boring. You, not the shredding.
IME, G&L Tributes are roughly equivalent to MIM Standards/Players, but splitting the price between them and top end Squiers.
Also, my Tribute Doheny is by far the best new offset guitar I've ever owned.
Excellent video, thanks guys. Did you happen to get any of the Tribute Comanches?
The exact comparison I was looking for!
It would be really cool if your video showed what these guitars sound like.
So did Rob take the S-500 and Fallout with him? He seemed pretty smitten with both.
As for suggestions, I'm partial to things in green or purple.
Rob, what amp/pedals/settings were you using? Your tone was AMAZING no matter what you played!
Great demos, chaps! I'll take the semi-hollow 'tele' and the bright red strat with maple neck...George & Leo would be proud...
That Orange finish is really sweet - you don't see that in a lot of guitars
Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it. Just curious if you know if the G&L S-500 Tribute medium c neck profile thickness depth at the 1st thru 12th fret is any thinner than the Fender modern c neck profile. I have a 2002 Fender Highway 1 Strat with modern c neck profile and it has always been a little thick for my small hands and short fingers and am looking for another strat style guitar with a thinner neck depth profile. My '88 MIK Strat is the thinnest neck depth Strat I have ever played and that neck is to die for. Thanks again.
For people who want to know, MFD pickups are very hot. You don't always even need to turn them up all the way to start getting a bit of overdrive. Otherwise they sound JUST LIKE your SD variants but slightly brighter. I cannot tell you the difference the bridge makes, you have to experience it.
Nice to see G&L getting some more love. I have three USA models and have always been reluctant to pull the trigger on a Tribute. What would you say is the biggest difference between the USA models and imports? Thanks for your thoughts.
Electronics
Tuning stability on Tributes questionable. I've owned both.
Really really preferring Lee's playing more and more each video even though I'm a metal guy. Rob's playing hardly ever seems to suit the rhythm that Lee is laying down.
The best mid priced guitar made. The ASAT Bluesboy semi-hollow is the best value of any guitar. It has the build quality of a guitar two to three times the price. American pickups and hardware. Impossible to find a better guitar at this price. And they are all setup in Fullerton before the ship to dealers!
Fallout - my favorite guitar!
Not enough gain if you ask me. I like Rob's playing. If I wanted to hear a clean review, I'd watch another channel.
I was hesitant about it because I didn't like the way it looked but I loved the way it played and sounded. It grows on you, I love the way it looks now. I have the surf green with the rosewood fretboard. It's the most versatile guitar i've ever heard. You can play any genre with that guitar.
On the Andertons special, is the neck finished at all. You say it’s not lacquered but does that mean it’s satin or completely unfinished? Would have liked to hear more of that one, great looking guitar.
The semi hollow bluesboy being the only one with a humbucker but chappers gives us a few strums before going back to the bridge pickup! I want to hear it Rob!
Every now and then I discover a guitar I really want to try and buy. Right now it's that Tribute ASAT Special in sunburst. Are they discontinued or will they make more at some point? :(
I'd love a LEGACY USA vs LEGACY Tribute video ! :)
Please please please do an ASAT classic in sea foam green with maple neck, just like the ASAT Special, just don’t like the pickups or bridge on the Special.
Nice playing in this video 👌🏻
Great intro jam!
Loving my Fallout that matches the one in Chappers' opening demo. Tempted to maybe change the pickguard, but not much else.
Stupid question but ... Do you think it would sound "good" to play fast metal riffs on that G&L FALLOUT ?
I fell in love with its warm tone. But I'm not sure it would sound great for E / D riffs ?
I own a G&L Legacy Tribute HSS, and I love her to death. At the time, I was specifically looking for a splittable HSS Strat-type guitar for under $500, to which I’d have to make minimal modifications. I picked this up used for $325; I was already leaning heavily toward G&L because Jerry Cantrell played one for years, and, though i more often play fingerstyle, Knopfleresque stuff, I like the fast necks, higher-radius fretboards, the PTB system, and the richer tone than I’d get from something like an Ibanez. She was also a lacquered tobacco-burst body, with a 1-piece, all-maple neck with a satin finish on the back. She had needed some work: a new switch, an higher quality output jack, and I wanted a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck pickup in the bridge position (I also managed to find some locking tuners that would fit her without my having to drill any new holes (or resize any old ones); astonishingly, finding a set of drop-intuners that was the most challenging part of the entire project.
Anyroad, like I said, at that time, I was specifically looking for a generator of Stratty tones, so somehow I managed to miss that thing that Chappers was playing. Might have to look into it!
Stellar video !!
I love your videos guys 10/10 they are extremely well done and informative. I really wish I could I could play like you Rob legend. Keep up the great work guys, Michael from Thornton NSW Australia. Come over for a visit and
They're not Bird Eating spiders
They're Golden Orb Weaving spiders.
We get them in Sydney all the time. They're pretty chill.
Huntsman spiders are the ones that are a menace. They aren't dangerous, but they gallop at the speed of sound and they watch you
orb weavers in melb too, they are fine unless you disturb their web. Saw one the size of a guitar speaker in the bush near the border with you fellas last summer. Huntsmans IME are only dangerous because you encounter them in weird places and they scare you. Not good if you're driving and one crawls out from behind your sun visor right above your head!
@@kbkman7742 can that actually happen?
I am so fucking happy to not live in Australia
Yeah they're not inherently dangerous
But I sure don't like the idea of those face huggers watching every damn movement I make and then hauling ass at speeds it has no damn business moving at up onto the damn ceiling.
Have you ever heard of the Emu War?
I'll sum it up for you:
We lost.
I'd suggest a "blues special" in the tribute series!
Would have loved to see the Legacy and the S500 through the same amp so we can see the difference between the MFD and the Alnico pickups
The first guitar sounded amazing👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Just ordered my tribute s-500. Can't wait to get it!
How is it??
@@Onedyingwish1 its amazing. Bit heavy for a atrat but I like heavier guitars. Neck is really nice, frets are rlly good for the price. Love the pickups and treble/bass tone, but will say the plastics are all very cheap, but hey for a stra with a rosewood board and MFD pups all for $600, its an absolutely amazing guitar
Alright looking for opinions to help me decide! I'm debating between a Fender Player Series Stratocaster ($675) or a G&L Tribute Legacy (I've seen them anywhere from $399 - $499 new). I don't want the Fender Standard MIM as I don't like the ceramic pickups and prefer the sound of the Alnico pickups, which both the Player Series and Tribute Legacy have. Feature wise both guitars seem to be on par with each other. The G&L is much cheaper, I'm just wondering if I will regret not paying more and getting the Fender...I actually don't mind the G&L headstock which seems to be most people's issue but worry about resale issues if I want to change down the road and most people have never heard of G&L it seems.
Rob's playing on the S500 in the outro jam was reminiscent of the intro to Satriani's Flying In A Blue Dream. Most excellent! :-)
will you guys do a video on the ASAT tribute deluxe? those are pretty cool as well, but i haven't seen those in your videos
I went ahead and bought the fallout, this video is just helping to reaffirm that decision.
G&L Tribute Legacy or MIM Fender Strat?
locking tuners!!! been saving for a fender tele, but these look awesome. if they had locking tuners, hey i can get a few for the cost n swap pick ups if i dont like em.hahah
I wish for a "Danish Pete Sparkling Purple Slightly Aged" DPSPSA!!!!!!!!!
but can they dive bomb?
Thanos Pete

G&L Legacy purple reliced telecaster... Oh yes...
Some great tones chaps and I wish for a Mercedes Blue Legacy with mid boost circuit and a nice fat neck. 👌🏻
What amp and pedals is Chappers using here? Great tones.
He is using a orange rockerverb and i dont think hes using any pedals. But if he does probably an angry charlie
That Orange Rockerverb sounds amazing
UN, DEUX ... TROIS !
Your nice french cracks me up Captain, bien joué !
i have Asat Classic tribute. really good guitar. I put a Hot Rails in the bridge. Wish G & Ls were a little more available ..... oh i forgot . i have a Legacy too. another really good guitar.
Lee's solo in the intro was very Neil Young-ish. Tasteful. Balanced.
Hello ! i don't know which one to buy...... Fallout or ASAT with humbucker ?
Should I get a G+L ASAT or a fender Mexican tele?
I bought about 5 years ago the CV teleaster due to Rob's enthysiasm about it and now his infections excitement about the tribute Fall out is giving me the same gas. Question before I go ahead and buy it online from Andertons that would really help my final decision: how does the Squier CV Telecaster 50s neck compare to the neck of the fallout tribute . Please let me know. Thank you muchly.
Can't decide between a Tribute and a USA Legacy. Recommendations anyone?
Contact G&L and they will customize however you want. Costs basically the same. Great people to work with. Customer service is balls.
Woah really? So I could theoretically get a surf green strat body with a maple neck instead of the cherry neck it comes with?
Just purchased a like new ASAT Classic at a local pawn shop Very pleased with the sound, quality, and finish For the money you can't beat it What was the tune being played during the intro ? Sounds very familiar but just can't figure it out
An S500 in HSS form with a roasted maple neck and fingerboard would be nice. That neck & fingerboard combination would also be nice in the ASAT Special as well. Probably my two favourite G&L Guitars.
Thank you for the review, but if I dare to criticize anything - could be way better if we could hear more of the clean sounding chords in different positions, overtones, different sound colours, and not only the pentatonic scale with distortion played super fast up and down like an etude. Thank you.
Dave A. Yep... I’m looking for a Telecaster......
About the bridge: not only is the bridge locked together, but it also has a kind of foot with a corresponding routing in the body, really locking the bridge and body together.

Noire that you're a G&L dealer, can you sort parts? Need a grub screw for the tremolo on my S-500
Would've loved the legacy in black with the satin neck AND the MFD pickups, any chance of one you wonderful Andertons people?
I pulled the trigger on the OG fallout in Coral Sunset. It’s gonna be great!
What amp were you in Rob?
I Love the Black Legacy with the white pickups and black pickguard. Noice.
BEST MUSIC YET GUYS. MAKE A BAND TOGETHER
Variations?
How about a reverse headstock, reverse bridge pickup (Hendrix), an ebony board option, gold hardware, traditional tele-style pups in the Legacy WITH the tremolo (like a certain F Custom Shop model).
Where was the Tribute Comanche?
The G&L "Grape" translucent finish is fantastic. Try it!
Doesn't that Fallout Tribute have a coil split on the humbucker by pulling the tone knob?
Yeah it does
As the happy owner of both a Tribute Legacy and an S-500 thanks for this vid though you forgot to mention a couple of great features. The tone controls, treble is normal but the other is a bass roll-off and the S-500 has those extra pickup combos!
Andertons G&L - Candy apple red, mint pickguard and aged white pick ups (with more of an explanation about them / pots)
Is there anyway to get a tribute guitar but with a flammed ampler neck?
My bluesboy has light flame on it, it’s a really pale neck but if you look hard you can see it.
Could you do a Captain meets with Rob as that could be kind of funny
Tbh I would be interested in how rob got started and stuff
I'm totally down for this
dig way back to the 2014-2015??? vids for lee meets meets rob video - or it may be on lees or robs youtube...when lee had no nickname....but he runs chit like a boss, so they said well then yer the captain !!!! - i heard after hours hes more like lil napolean, since rob showed him alot of cool riffs back then...
Or Captain meets Captain!
@@tippydripbumskeetr1745 Its on the Andertons channel.
Does that Gilmore guitar come with the Fullerton made clf-100 pups because they're advertised as such on ebay, just wondering.
Totally random but at 8:58 when he rips the patch cord out of the guitar it 100% sounded like a rooster🤣 ...had to rewind it a couple times to make sure I wasn't loosin it😆😆😆
Used to own a tribute ASAT special about 10 years ago. I still miss it. Unforgettably awesome pickups!
Can anyone PLEASE tell me the brand and model of any direct replacement tuners for the Tribute series G&L guitars?? I just bought a 2021 Legacy AND S-500.... well built, awesome hardware, awesome pickups..etc.. BUT the stock 2 pin tuners BLOW. USA G&L tuners are NOT compatible. Fender tuners are NOT compatible. Even the Hipshot "plate" thing doesn't work. Surely some brand has to sell some sort of upgrade to these junk tuners. I hate to sell these guitars over the tuners being junk.... so hopefully someone knows of something. I'm cool with locking or standard tuners. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
