Yes, I understand, but he was the main person in charge of first occupying, purging and then splitting the territories of Georgia. By putting him as the cover of this song, it seems like he is a national hero, which he isn't. @@beback_
My half-sister (Georgian from Ukraine) once asked why I called her "Suliko" I answered that this is the Georgian word that they call dear people (sorry if this is not so) after that she had the feeling that she almost started crying and after that she became learn Georgian
Is there any relation with Stalin's first wife's death and his love for this song Suliko? I've heard that Stalin loved his 1st wife sooo deeply that he thrown himself to her grave many times during the funeral. Even though he was a horrible person, it is a tragedy & terrible
@johnthomson... Yes..! Stalin was quite well educated intellectualist... he use to study theology, psychology of the people, history, literaturę, administration & management of the Church as a corporation. He as young student was also a poet... He was also well known as good singer during the services in local churches... He loves great literature, musik & poems/verses. He finished his education in the Theological College but do not want be ordered as the preast in orthodox Church. And started in leftist party political monument in Georgia and Russia imperium.... so on... etc. AS political activist He was on tipical bolshevism way for dictatorship .... as many others in the past and today.... was very cruel...
Stalin was definitely flawed (like all historical figures), but still an incredibly smart man who literally saved Europe from fascism. Read some of his works. I recommend “Dialectical and Historical Materialism”. You can read it for free online.

Foarte frumos ! L-am cantat impreuna cu o colega la o serbare in anul 1958 cand eram in clasa 4-a la Scoala elementara nr. 5 din Craiova
At least Uncle Joe had good taste when it came to music. This is beautiful music, and a beautiful poem.
Любимая песня Сталина. И моя:))

>Georgian folk song
Thats very correct of you
It was one of his favorite songs, hence the thumbnail.
@@beback_ so what? that's not an excuse to put him as a cover of this beautiful song.
Not an excuse, just an explanation. @@DemeDemetre

it isn't a folk song, it was composed in the 19th century
I never even knew what this song meant until now. Heart wrenching lyrics. Beautiful song
Я очень люблю эту песню и прослушала около 30 исполнителей, но это исполнение самое душевное, его хочется без конца слушать.
yep theres something in my eye

Just imagine Stalin listening to this song on a gramophone while signing warrants for people to be purged.

suliko is a womans or mans name that means "soul" and this song is made from a sad love poem about a man that couldnt find his lovers grave

Even though he was a horrible person, it is a tragedy & terrible
This song was written before Stalin was born by a famous Georgian poet Akaki Tsereteli, it has nothing to do with Stalin
Just Stalin loved this song this is why he is in thumbnail
Maybe. The lyrics make sense and correlate to his reaction at her funeral.
@@moonashraf2382yes, that's what I was thinking.

Subtitles don't match the song. There are many much better performances of this, this one is bad one.
Only a Georgian, or possibly a Russian, can sing this beautiful poem as it should be sung!
@@peterr7321 Not Russian, only Georgian. this one is Georgian performance too, but not that good.
lyrics are bit wrong in some parts
