- Just a quick video on replacing the belt tensioner. This is a common problem on these cars. It sounds like a constant power steering pump wine that gets louder under acceleration.
Tools needed:
-19mm socket for lug nuts
-10mm socket and ratchet for the two tensioner bolts
-Flat head screwdriver or pliers for the fender liner clips
-15mm wrench to loosen the tensioner.
I had a hard time pushing up on the wrench because of the lack of space. I ended up connecting three or four 3/8 socket extensions and then connected a socket to the end of that. I used this and a floor jack to push up on the 15mm wrench to loosen the tensioner and hold it in place while I installed the belt. You have to push the tensioner alot farther up when installing the belt compared to removing the belt.
Let me know if you have any questions and I will make more videos explaining what I did.
Thanks for watching!
Showing what to do at each step and what tool to use is very helpful.
Great help this just happened to me today saved me money thanks man 👏👌
Thanks for the video. I just ordered one from the link.
*Update 10/21/18, the tensioner I bought for this video already wore out. And of course we were 70 miles from home when it broke! Anyways I had to install a new one yesterday. Make sure to buy a quality tensioner and not a 20$ cheap one like i did.
You skipped the part I needed to see
My apologies, what did you want to see?
@Zach F lol I'm stuck trying to get the belt on. I got the tensioner in place, but getting the belt on and holding the tension open is not easy. Did you put the belt on the tensioner before or after installing it? Done people said to skip it over the water pump pulley since it's smooth.
I have the same problem on my 2012 Fusion 2.5L. What are the part numbers of the parts you have? I've been searching and the Ford Parts website lists a part that doesn't look anything like the part you have or what any aftermarket brand says.

Here is a link for what I used
Awesome, thanks!
This is exactly the vid i was looking for...my cars making the exact same noise, Now i know. Do i have to take the belt right off though??
vator exca05 I'm glad this helped! And you will have to take the belt off of the tensioner puly but that's as far as you need to take it off
@@zachf5195 I have of same cuestion . I need to change my tensioner but my belt is good. How can I do that without takey belt out? Sr
@@tonycervantes4816 you do not have to take the belt all the way off. Once you remove the tensioner, the belt will just hang there from the other pulleys. Then you will install it over the new tensioner when completed
@@zachf5195 okay sr. But if I remove the tensioner the belt does.not move outside the other pulleys?
@@tonycervantes4816 I don't believe so. It's pretty easy to re-route the belt if it does come off. But I don't think you will have to worry about it.
Does that make the belt keep coming off??
This could be the issue. If the tensioner is starting to fail, it may not be keeping enough tension on the belt, so it pops off. Mine always just failed completely, so the belt didn't rotate at all
My pulley doesn't move freely just going to do the pulley exchange instead of the whole assembly.
Man i just got the pulley but all i got was the pully itself nit the bracket, can i justmount it on the old one
Thats how it came
vator exca05 if the pully came with the bearing installed then you may be able to use it. But if not then you will have to get the whole assembly so you can get a new, quiet bearing
Ya man, the bearing is in it so i should be good
Thanks for another pointless video
