GMT800 Bricked P01/P59 PCM Recovery

- I bricked my PCM during a calibration write. This can happen when tuning and battery voltage is to low or modules interfere with the write. This is a walk through on how to recover your PCM with pcm hammer and a bench harness.

I noticed in some of your saved tune files there are notes about "lean cruise". I'm using HP Tuners (currently trying to un-brick my P59 after trying my very first flash that failed), and I know HPT doesn't let you mess with the settings to enable it... I'm hoping you can point me in the right direction for enabling this feature, as it's one of the main reasons I'm beginning to learn tuning. PCM Hammer plus another tuning program? Any insight would be greatly appreciated (and a video would be even better!)
Here is the link to the lean cruise patch. It only works with the 7603 operating system so if your pcm is running another you would have to swap over. Once you open the bin file and the patch xdf you apply the patch the save the bin. You will then have to do an entire write with the new bin file. Once the entire write is complete any changes to the lean cruise stuff will work.

Nice. I got a question tho, I believe minds is block, cause when I had pc hammer reads mind it sad unlock was not successful don’t know why so does this mean it’s brick. I see u had files save I didnt get a chance to save files option wasn’t available for me ,Is these files something u have save and would it work for me to if I did the same process. Very new to this world help please
I basically save a base file before I make any changes. Then I save a file every time I make a change. Usually rewriting the previous file works but I have had to rewrite the original file first to get it unlocked then rewrite the previous file. If it’s a stock untouched pcm and you haven’t even been able to get the file read and saved it may be an issue with your OBD tool or a power supply issue. From what I remember you must be a certain point just over 12 volts.
To what pin in the obd2 port you used the paper clip to ground the PCM? WHat software are you using? Same process can be done with HP tuners?
Pin 4 or 5 in the obd connector are both grounds. I’ve also heard you can just use the case of the pcm to ground it. I haven’t done this procedure with HP Tuners but I heard you can by selecting write entire.
Good to know for sure! Looks easy enough as well. I recover switches and routers sort of the same way but with buttons on the devices versus grounding ping but same net effect. Is your background in IT?
No IT background. I’m just a mechanic. This is just something I have learned from other places online. I’ve needed to recover a couple PCMs and I’m some cases several times to the same PCM. I haven’t yet had one that couldn’t be recovered with this method.
