Found one similar to this in my dad’s gun safe. All he said was “grandpa brought it back from the war.” I know nothing else about it except that it’s cool as hell
In Kirikale there was never a factory to build Mausers. The dates on the barrels are the dates when they were refurbished and adopted the 8.92x 57 round. M-38 nomenclature was given by the importers, a hypothetical nomenclature to import those rifle in the US. Those rifles were refurbished, some of them had missing parts that were replaced with parts taken form Turkish warehouses using German parts. Turkey never produced a Mauser, they were stamped with the Turkish logo after they were manufactured in Germany and inspected by German quality control personnel. In German factories, there was a Turkish commission dedicated to inspect the Turkish orders to make sure the rifles were manufactured under Turkish Army guidelines.
Turkey did produce licenced mauser rifles in the 40s and 50s until the army switched to nato equipment M1s. There were several factories in Kirikkale and other cities. All factories were consolidated under MKE in the 50s.
Nice rifle! I‘ve got a complete 1893 Turkish Mauser barreled action and can’t find a Turkish stock for it. What model of Swedish stock do you have on it? Did you have to do much fitting?
The difference is in the bolt. The 1893 bolt finishes in a straight bolt with a ball shaped end, the 1903’s bolt’s end is lacking the ball shape looking like a tear drop shape instead of the ball.
Just look for the notch on the receiver. The year it converted to 8mm is stamped on the top of the receiver. Not likely to find matching serial numbers because took them all apart, machined them and put them back together. I bought one mail order in about 2000, no FFL required (mfg before 1894). I bought 2 and they were delivered to my mail box.@@frigglebiscuit7484
Good luck convincing a pawn shop or gun store that these are considered antique and not go through FBI background check. Most say maybe they are but not willing to risk it. The only ones they will agree with have the date stamped after the cut off
Great gun!
Mine has a date of 1943. Bought it at a gun show with a case of 8x57 ammo but the bullets won't fit. Any idea?

what is the marking next to the barrel on the stripper clip thumb hole side? the dual 8 looking one. my 1903 has the same symbol.

I have one that looks just like this one, but been told that is a "1903" is there a way to differentiate the 1893 V's 1903 ?

How much is a real 1893 converted in Turkey late 1930s worth?
Why is it in a Swedish mauser stock?
It’s want it was in at the time of purchase
