These are all great women who paid their dues in rock and roll and found the success that they worked for. They fell out, then came back together and, in the end, still remained friends professionally and personally. And they still hold the record for a woman's group that attained their level of success with all original material they composed themselves. Long live the Go-Go's!
Back in 1981 shortly after the Go Go's recorded this music in studio C at A&M Records, I worked in the same studios with friends recording their first album. Andy Armer (my friend) was teaming with Herb Albert's nephew Randy. They had co-written Herb's #1 instrumental hit "Rise". Herb was selling them studio time for 50% of the going rate. I watched Herb lay down some tracks in another studio while I was there. It was great being young and at a place where memorial music was being made. I still have a pack of A&M matches. I used to go over to Marvin Gaye's house in Hidden Hills and play basketball with him and others, swim in his pool, play pool, kind gentle man. RIP Marvin. The 80's were a great time to be young and alive.
@Timothycpollock I certainly was. I also spent time with the Academy award winning actress Kim Basinger, who lived in Woodland Hills at the time. Sweet lady.
God I still crush on Kathy Valentine. Those smokey eyes 🥵 p.s Who else remembers that Jane Weidlin also played Joan of Arc in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure? 😂
So when this song came out in 81, I was in the Navy. In those days, everyone was into AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Molly Hatchet, etc. Well, the moment I heard this song, I was hooked. The up-beat vibe and driving bass made it totally irresistible. Now, image in the Navy is EVERYTHING. No matter what, you absolutely MUST maintain that image of being a hard-as-nails, take-no-bullshit, hard-drinking/smoking/fighting hell-raiser or things get out of control pretty quickly, and I did a pretty good job at maintaining my image (I had to. I was only 20 at the time and a shop supervisor). Consequently, when I heard this song I knew I had to be REAL discrete when purchasing and listening to it. So come Christmas Eve, 1981, my roommate, one of the roughest, toughest, meanest, foulest-dispositioned third-class petty officers that ever wore the uniform was driving me over to Lindbergh Field (San Diego) for my flight home and Christmas leave when Our Lips Are Sealed came on the FM. Matt ROCKED OUT. When he mentioned what a great beat it had, I took a deep breath, debated momentarily whether I should open just a crack the vaulted door into my inner, most vulnerable self and said "Matt, I've got the tape at the top of my duffle bag. If you want it, I'll give it to you when we get to the airport", which I did. I still get a laugh at the thought of big ol', tough-as-nails Matt Smith (yeah, that really was his last name) getting off to this song.

Put the Go Go's on at any party anywhere any time, especially this song, and everyone in attendance will shout "yeah" and dance / rock out / try to get laid to it. I simply doesn't get better than that.
For those asking about the ‘extra’ love verse Belinda sings, it is... ‘Careless talk through paper walls We can't stop them, only laugh at them Spreading rumors so far from true Dragged up from the underworld, just like some precious pearl’ They’ve always done it live, it just wasn’t in the studio version. The list of the acts eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 have been announced, and once again, THE GO-GO's have been overlooked. I only rediscovered the Go Go's and realise how great they are with so many great songs and like the Bangles, theres many similarities. Both bands have professional bass players who can add great texture and rhythm to the songs. Both have a lead singer that went on to their own successful solo careers and friction and breakups because of that and reform again to play again to very happy crowds.
