How to paint Azreal for Dark Angels from the Wrath of the Soul King box! Suitable for beginners!

Azreal was the first metal character I ever had, so it really meant something special to be able to paint up this plastic version, sent to me by @officialwarhammer in the Wrath of the Soul King box. This isn't the first Dark Angels tutorial I've done, but if the rumors are true...there'll be one or two more on the way soon! Hope you enjoy the leader of the Dark Angels' painting tutorial, for now anyway!

The restraint in not slapping a load of Ork green colours on all the armour edges making it look like irradiated like every single other youtuber - this is a proper looking dark angel imo. Well done man

I think it's a great video, and an awesome job. I will say that I think the verticality actually works from what it looks like. I mean he's a Grand Master of a Chapter of Space Marines, he's standing in for a Primarch, he needs the stature.
Dam rite. And he isn’t standing on for a primarch any more.
It's interesting that my first response to seeing this model was that it was waaay too detailed for me to tackle, but after watching your video, I'm thinking that as long as I take my time, I can get a fair version done. Thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome, that’s exactly the point of my whole channel! Some things definitely take a bit of time, even if you are doing a simpler job but it’s so worth it! Hopefully this helps take the fear away from other models for you as well! Thanks for the comment

Love the video! Waiting for my Azrael in the mail. What kind of brushes and sizes do you use? And what do I do if I mess up with a contrast and get it on the wong area? I have not tried contrast method yet
Normally just gamesworkshop medium and small layer brush. For the price there amazing brushes.
Always loved the Azrael model and may pick up this new version of him to paint as he looks superb.
Interested to know which version of the metal Azrael you owned? Was it the one with a plastic pack and paper banner or was it the modern one which had the updated moulded pack and banner?
It was the mounded back and came with the watcher with his helmet.

Would priming with wraithbone give too warm of a tone to the contrasts?
Also what brushed did you use for this?
Emmm I’m not sure. The most important thing is to be consistent so if you start with wraith bone then all that way so they Match. And just normal GW brushes

Azreal becomes a bit too busy with a fancy helmet and banner, too much visual noise I think. I would snip off the back banner and top it on a sergeant marine or similar. the primaris need more back banners!
They really do.
I vote to drop the back banner. With the helmet, he's got too much going on above his head. The helmeted head is too good to leave off. I wish there was an option to have the watcher carry the banner.

I feel like that would be a pretty easy conversion..
Is it just me or do space Marines wearing robes into battle seem silly?. I don't see a practical need for robes to be worn in battle doing ceremonial duties,visiting dignitaries etc yes maybe but into battle?
Otherwise I loved this version of azreal and warhipsters version both very very good examples of what contrast can and not do and how to high light contrast paint with normal paint without taking away anything from the effects contrast can bring to a model.
They could use them to wipe their swords…? I don’t know, probably not practical but still very cool and it does break up the monotony of basic armour so I’m all for them!

Do I like redesigned Az? Yes. Do I play DA? Yes. Am I seriously going to pay 210 dollars for this kit? Not even if I smoked warp dust out of a STC light bulb.
I'm collecting and painting DA for 15 years now, not gonna touch that overpriced box, which I only need 1 mini from.
That’s cool! The great thing about this hobby that nobody needs any of it, we can just pick and choose what we want to buy! The figures will be out separately soon enough!
@@MediocreHobbies That's the part I hate the most, sometimes we need to wait for months to get it as a separate box, knowing that miniature is already produced. Specially, when it's the stuff we really want :)
