      Top tips from me - just do the basics well, that doesn't mean take forever, but it does mean take care, especially when you've repeated it a few times (like on 20 dudes!) you'll be surprised just how solid covering the basics looks, everything else is just icing on the cake :)

    Great video as always Byron. Great use of contrast paint over a highlighted base coat. Love the face, really quick and effective technique. My top tip for decals on a curve is gloss varnish first then micro set and sol to soften. Leave it a while and the decal will melt into the surface. GW decals are nice and thin, so they conform really well. Keep up the great content

    Really like this one, great to finally get the Dark Angels done on the channel! I think I would personally use Ork Flesh contrast over the actual Dark Angels green one just because I've found that this paint behaves better for me - My DA green contrast always comes out more patchy than the other contrasts, I'm not sure why but I have found that the way the paint behaves varies massively across the contrast range. I like the trick with Cassandora Yellow on the gold, I'm definitely going to be using that from now on!

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  Před 3 lety +2

      I just push them really tight dude, these ones have a very snug fit, you can always put a tiny dot of glue on, and then break the bond if needed, this way you'll get greater friction too, as things'll be less smooth :)

    Question about the palette you use / sell... Does any of the dried paint ever flake off into the newer wet paint? You have your contrast paint on it and any time I use my plastic palette , anything dried under it starts breaking up and pulling up into it. I think I’m a bit confused by your palette lol. In the store it says to prime it. I think I need one of these.

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey dude, not unless I've been silly and put new paint on old paint from the same session, that hasn't fully dried yet. I think there's probably a big difference to a primed painted surface and plastic, as it's pretty much the same as a miniature.
      The one exception is after you've drybrushed over it, where you can get little dusty flecks of paint, I just brush off the pallet to avoid this :).
      Hope that helps, they really are magic, I can't recommend picking one up enough, you'll find yourself learning a lot about painting using one!

    Question about the green, because on a proper camera even a lame layering looks better, so I have to ask, does the drybrush look as good as it is on this video? Because as I know drybrush always leaves that stippled effect and giving it a glaze doesnt change much, or maybe i miss something? :)

    • @ArtisOpus

      @@ArtisOpus Thanks for this! I'm still practicing, and it's getting better. I thought thinning paint meant taking most of the paint off the brush, and I'd heard with contrast paint you wanted it fairly thick so it would settle into the recesses, and that the issue I was having was overbrushing it? I'm just really not sure. I'll keep watching videos and practicing, and hopefully I'll figure it out eventually! I'm sure either way I'll need to strip and repaint all my models at some point!
