Field Find! 1952 Nash Ambassador Custom!

  • Hi!
We're back after another long Canadian winter! I've been pretty busy with customer cars, but I did manage to pick up a couple more units for us to enjoy!
This time it's a 1952 Nash Ambassador Custom 4 door sedan. I like the unique styling and interesting engineering of these Nashes; they certainly look like nothing else on the road.
These were unibody cars since before the war, and the skrted-wheel styling (with supposed input from famous Italian design house Farina) gives them a look that is unmistakable and unique.
This particular car is the top-of-the-line model, with nice touches like beautiful green-tinted glass, radio, and GM's Hydramatic automatic transmission. It looks like this car was parked when it was fairly new after a sideswipe accident probably wrote it off. The owner must have kept the car intending to fix it, and never did... Maybe I should repair it? I'd sure like to get it going, but it's pretty rough after being stored outside for many years. It is mostly complete, and has only about 25000 miles showing.
Well, either way, it's the last independent manufacturer I needed to have all of the 5 major postwar independents for the CWMC used-car lot! Let's line it up there with the Packard, Hudson, Studebaker, and Kaiser!
Thanks for watching this stuff, and for subscribing! Lots more to come this summer now that the snow is finally gone.
    Cheers!

I think that '52 Nash will still run! in l990 I was selling cars at a buy-here pay-here lot in Denver. we took a '73 AMC Matador in trade. ugly as sin and almost no oil in it. there was a cold snap in late November. got down to -25. the only car on the lot that kicked right over was...the '73 Matador.

Reminded me of my first car I bought, which was only this past january lol. I went to look at a '64 Impala and it was about 20 degrees out, it was sitting the past 8 months with a dead battery, old oil, and bad plugs, started up immediately with a new battery and I bought it a few weeks later :D Love my '64 ss!

The first car I remember my mom driving was a 1950 Nash Statesman. Somehow my dad found it sitting in the weeds in someone's backyard. I was about four at the time. I went with them as they took a logging chain and pulled the thing out. It was love at first sight. Only took me about forty years to own one of my own....

Owned a 54' Ambassador in the 60's, it was my Grandad's before. Ran fine, not dent or broken anything in it. Straight six, dual side draft carbs, three on the tree, "real" overdrive planetary transmission. Seats made a full bed. Weird starter switch on the clutch pedal. Continental wheel on the back. Wish I had it now, who knew?

No way! For a while last year I had my eye on the Kijiji ad for this car...it really intrigued me. I thought it would look awesome slammed and painted something obnoxious, like lime gold or persimmon orange. I even did a little photoshop sketch to see how it could look when finished.
This car would make an amazing and truly unique cruiser for an ambitious builder. It would make a great "mascot" car for a business. So glad you guys saved it, even if it is really rough.

    • @coldwarmotors
      @coldwarmotors  Před 8 lety

Hey, thanks for the note, and for checking out the video... I knew I needed this car as soon as I saw the ad; it was the last independent brand my "abandoned used car lot" was missing...
I just love this car; of all the cars in my row of heaps, this is the one I wish I could drive. I'll keep looking for a parts car to combine with this one so it could be saved. It's the top-of-the-line model, too, with tinted glass and all the best trim! Also, thanks for the kind words you posted on the Jalopnik forum; a friend saw the thread and forwarded it to me, so cheers for that!

One more suggestion next time you buy tires get you some toyo Eclipse white walls definitely need white walls on that year. The Toyota Eclipse makes a maximum load range tire in a white wall that will handle the weight of a big vehicle and still makes a white wall for reasonable price.

In 1960 the family car was a Rambler Cross Country wagon. It was a pretty decent car. In '64 it was traded in for a Tempest custom with the 326. In '66 I got my learner's permit and finally flew solo the following year.

Shane S Hi! Thanks for checking it out... Flat side glass is no problem; it can be cut at any glass shop, and windshields are available for just about anything. The rear glass would only be available used though. Glad you liked the Nash! Cheers.

Squirt some diesel or Kroil in the cylinders and let it set for awhile, then try to break her loose.

Shame the plugs were left out. They were nice engines too. Packard wasn't it ? Maybe a new motor for the Nash will avail itself sometime..?

Hi, thanks for the note! That is very generous of you to offer... I will consider it, for sure! I would be over right away, but it is a ways off and not an ideal time of year for this kind of thing, haha...Cheers from here!
