  • This week I’m showing you how to make brown sugar at home. Homemade brown sugar is super simple to make with these 2 ingredients you probably already have in your pantry.
This simple baking hack will come in handy in a pinch and save you a trip to the store.
    LIGHT BROWN SUGAR:
    (1) cup organic cane sugar
    1/2 Tablespoon molasses
    DARK BROWN SUGAR:
    (1) cup organic cane sugar
    1 Tablespoon molasses
    * start off with these ratios and add more molasses to your liking *
    TIP:
Add marshmallows to your sugar jars to keep the sugar from hardening.

Absolutely amazing, I would have never thought that was so simple, can't wait to pass this on to my daughter that lives to bake. I will definitely turn her in to your channel and I have subscribed myself.
    Thank you!

I never knew how to make brown sugar. Wow. Also thanks for the tip about the marshmallows, I have always used a piece of bread instead.

I have molasses in my cupboard but have no idea why. We do use a lot of brown sugar in the house though. Thanks for that demo! It’s a sweet surprise!

I told my friend about this and she said “I don’t usually have brown sugar in the house and I dang sure don’t have molasses.” Lol.
I like to do Christmas cookie exchanges and I saw this in a cookie recipe book. Great hint.

I usually have molasses since my kids love molasses cookies. But yeah I could see people not having that around too. Hmmm… how to make molasses video next?

@@homemadeonourhomestead Yes, please do. I love cooking and really appreciate hints like this. I love ginger snaps and anything with molasses so I do keep molasses in the pantry.

How do I soften my brown sugar that's already hardened? Thanks for the marshmallow tip.

      @homemadeonourhomestead  Před 2 lety +2

It depends on how much you need to soften up. But in the past I’ve just added 6-8 oversized marshmallows to my sugar and it softened up after a few days.
If you have a large batch, I use a spoon to loosen it up. Then I add marshmallows to it to further soften
