Very interesting and eclectic selection, Brett. Not many people would have a Sinatra and a Zappa album on a list of 10.

Thank you! I take that as a compliment. I don't mind labeling music by genre, but great music is great music and I'm proud of my musical tastes :)

Very interesting list. 1974 was, of course, the best year ever. My birth year! The Watchman's Gone has long been my favourite Gord tune and that whole record is stellar. I agree totally with Van's fantastic live album which I've been meaning to feature. Both of the Willie are absolutely killer. Interesting that Blood On the Tracks was actually recorded in '74 making the Holy Trilogy entirely within that year. I'd add Dylan and The Band released one of my favourite live albums of all time "Before the Flood" came out in '74. Killer stuff. I've never been a Frank, either Sinatra or Zappa, fan, although I'm sure they are excellent if you are. I like hearing about such recommendations in case I stumble across them.

Before the Flood is stellar! Dylan's vocals were at a peak and the arrangements breathed new life into the songs.
I'm surprised you don't care for Sinatra, but Zappa is fairly polarizing lol
I get lost when spinning Van, that album takes me to another dimension entirely.

@@brettsmusicreviews2641 Sinatra just never reached me. I prefer Tony or Dean for that style of vocals. Perhaps his mobster past hazes my view somewhat. I actually think Zappa is brilliant and have a couple of his records. I just find him too disjointed to really get into. I don't generally go for the off-the-wall, but I can appreciate what he was doing.

@@roblabelle7874 Apostrophe is my favorite Zappa album in large part because it's accessible. I like a lot of his work but there's a lot I have difficulty getting in to. I have about 30 of his albums (including live & compilations records), which gives a good overview of his work but is seemingly almost just the tip of the iceberg. A lot of it is too far out for me.

Apostrophe and Overnite Sensation were my jumping off point for Zappa. I think Willie Nelson is the only one that made my top ten.

Those FZ albums are probably his most accessible. I love a lot of his work but there's some too weird for me, even lol
I look forward to seeing your list!

I’ve done top ten album lists from 1965-1985. I didn’t include live albums.
