I ABSOLUTELY loved this video PQ, thank for sharing! DDs are my "go-to" class for competitive (both ranked and CBs). The most important thing you said is that ANY dd can kill another one with some support. Absolutely true!
Smaland might be over the top as a dd hunter on paper, but in reality, if you avoid the 1vs1 situation, it's pretty easy to counter it.

It's about time they made Smaland available to everyone again. To take away such a powerful ship and only allow some players use of it is plain unfair.
Same goes for a lot of other ships, like Georgia, Massa, Thunderer etc
@@DaroZuo Yes I agree. Just level the field for everyone? I expect all the unavailable ships will come back through the hugely greedy Lighthouse Auction eventually? Just another Wargaming ploy to create value through scarcity.
If I see a Smaland on the enemy team I know the match is going to be rough against my tech tree DD's. If I see two, or one with something like a Vampire or other unique DD I know the game is most likely already a loss unless they potato hard. Those ships have so many advantages and simply out-class whatever they run into, especially tech tree DD's. Unless you are a perfect player like PQ you will lose.

Today i played randoms with jervis. Its my first dd line, grinding my way to the daring... it felt very good, ships is nice and my winrate was 68 after 22 games... and then today, 8 games, 7 losses and 1 win (1st game of the day was a win so it was 7 losses in a row) . I fucked up a few times but other times... oh man, im beyond frustrated with this game.
It has been a long time since one of your videos popped up on my home page, probably since I quit WoWs last year. But you really make me want to play the game again

In Randoms, I've been using my Henri IV (no Commander points on conceal, Commander points for Top Grade Gunner + Adrenaline Rush) and Improved Main Loading Mechanisms in Equipment slot 5 plus Main Battery Modification 3 in Equipment Slot 6 to farm. In Ranked, I use my Schlieffen (secondary build) to contest A,B, or C early, trying to overwhelm any destroyers with my main, secondary guns and torps.
I agree with you that battles are easier to win if you can take out your opponent's dds early. Of course, that's easier said than done.

I did Ranked with Bourgogne this time with probably a 70% WR, which is high for me. It's probably my favorite ship in my inventory.
Daring worked great for me. Recent game had me run into Smaland (with Zao support) and I just got away with low health. After 2 heals (spotting torps for my BB support) I managed to torpedo -kill the Smaland and burn down the Zao for the win. Great ship.

I've bien winning a lot with my delny recently, even against smälands and marceaus with support, just because I was able to maintain a distance where my ship was superior in balistics and dodging (also the armor is quite useful)
I usually main DDs in ranked, but this season I’ve been leaning on Soviet cruisers instead. Moskva brought me through bronze, and Stalingrad has been my go to through silver. I might go back to DDs for a few games, but I’m not sure I want to disturb a winning formula.
I used to be a cruiser/battleship guy, dabbled witih CVs, but I'm now pretty much a DD main. Battle impact as you say, but I really love the high risk/high reward gameplay.
With the player controlled secondaries how would you suggest the player controls them as if it was like torps it would be hard to do if you have quick reloading guns as the secondaries would just go off target when your shooting? Great video PQ
I'm a below average DD player (cruiser main) but I have my days in Marceau. And yesterday I had this long running engagement with a Smaland which I eventualy managed to win. That game was so intense I had to take a half our break. 😄 I like DD's (although I suck at them) but they're just too intense for me to play a lot.
You're very good with gun boat builds. It is always good to play to your strengths. I would appreciate it if you could show a play style/strategy using a Kleber and maximum concealment. I'm referring to building the Kleber with both "concealment mod 1" and "Improved Camouflage Patterns" research bureau upgrade. Can you make that work?

I def feel the same that I have the most impact in dds too but that works against me too if you end up committing to a move and then die early. Lol
I never got the Smaland,but I used Ragnar to get to gold rank 1, only used that and Kleber, always focused killing enemy DDs as fast as I could
Could you make a video featuring the Ragnar? I find it a bit tough to win battles in it.

I love the Halland but I wish I had picked up the Smaland when it was available.
Have you tried Vampire? I'm an avg player and I'm near 80% using it in bronze.
What do you think about gold league? Is it worth pushing to rank 1 ? Since we can't save our stars I stopped going to rank 1 but I'm wondering what others decided
I also had a great streak to end my push to silver league. 7-1 to finish it off. Schlieffen was my choice of ship. Ended with a 73.3% Winrate with the Schlieffen in ranked.
I like A.Regolo in ranked. This ship can to win or at least to survive in every DDs fight

AKTHCUALLY, PQ, you will notice that 50% of the destroyers in this video lost their ranked matches!
I'm kidding, I wish I had the time to invest to get to this level of playing DDs.
My go to is KLEB or borgogne. Kleber is just sooo strong when played aggressive. With any match type good DD players win the match most the time. I switched to DD main over a year ago with zero regrets.
Made it to within one start of ranking out in Gold playing pretty much only the Regolo....ended at Rank 6 😮💨
Smaland is so nasty. I'm so sad I didn't get that ship, wasn't into DDs back then.
I see a lot of Gunboat DDs, what do I do if I play a Torp/Hybrid DD?
If I am in a Shima or Halland and I see a Smaland on the other side in Ranked, I take a deep breath and resign to the fact that I am about to play a losing unfair game. If you try to spot the Smaland for your team, it won’t work because as soon as you spot him, he will hit his 7.5 km radar and send you back to port within 20 seconds. If you try to avoid the Smaland and focus on skirting around to try and take out the enemy capital ships, either your team will get pissed with you for not spotting the enemy dd and dying immediately or your team will not support you, your torps will tell the enemy team where you are and the enemy Smaland will come over and Nuke you. The meta is totally towards gunboat fast premium dds and torp/hybrid dds are just fodder for the gunboat players winrate

played one ranked game today in my marc by accident. meant to hit randoms. i was able to carry but it was absolutely infuriating. first game had terribad teammates
Maybe Napoli secondaries can't hit a Kleber, but a Schlieffen will tear it a new a#$h@le! I've learned that personally and with a speed boost on.
So what's the next best approach for playing ranked? I'm a horrible DD skipper. Though I'm a mediocre player at best I think my game play is better in cruisers than in BB in ranked and brawl.
I mean the world of warships blitz has manual secondaries. I don't see why they couldn't add it
After a long long break from the game, I got through bronze with an 80% WR and 56K average damage playing Gearing and Yueyang alternatively a few times.
Nice, tho in ranked it’s always important to know that damage isnt very important
@@agdthing8355 Depends. The wins are wins. I've had wins in ranked where I did zero damage but took caps, spotted and corralled enemy BBs off their game with well directed torps.
in WoWs Blitz you can control the secondaries yourself

Shima is great at ranked; you have esentially free 15kHP to trade for free wit enemy DD. You gain torp reload, he looses his impact.

pretty much the reason i stay in bronze, finish out the sprint in one or two sittings doing 200k damage every game laughing my way to the bank and then i go do something else lol.
Yeah, not much most DDs can do against a Smaland unless there is a radar cruiser escorting. If I run into one in my Shima I either run away or get caught by that ridiculous speed boost and die. Or you smoke up then get radar spotted and die. Very fun.
I'm curious what DD stands for when referring to a destroyer. Also what BB stands for when referring to a battleship.
Category-Type. Example: DD = Destroyer-Destroyer, DE = Destroyer-Escort, DDG = Destroyer-Destroyer Guided (ie. Guided Missile Destroyer)
For battleships there's really just BB and BC. That's battleships and battlecruisers respectively.

I had 100% WR in Marcau untill the LAST star to rank out in bronze. It took 2 bot schlieffens and a bot shima to break the streak.. Man was I pissed.

I think marceau is the best tier 10 ranked dd.
Gearing should be the one winning instead if he hits enough, since you can't pen his midsection with 120mm guns.
First sprint i ranked out bronze and qualtfy silver , second sprint I ranked out silver and qualyfy gold , now I am rank 5 at gold , I was 4 but I lost battle , tommorow I will play battles to get all rewords , I dont feel need to rank out , I play all reqired battles for rewords and i am happy with that , but , it get hard sometimes to dont reach rank too early , I had last season this way , sprint 2 I was rank 2 in gold and I guess I was somwere else because I relize that we might win that , and I would rank out = I would lost few K of steel , so I am ashamed to admit that but I went AFK , and we loose :) , now I keep safe and dont get close to rank 2 before last sprint :)

DDs are the reason I trade my Radar neptune. dying to the enemy ohio is no issue when hes guns can't turn fast enough before I kill the enemy smalland.

If I see alot of DDs in queue I switch to Smaland, if I see only a few, I switch to Ohio
If I see 2 CV's, I uninstall.
Nevsky with AA build, if you get a cv you laugh in dfaa. If you don't you curse to yourself cause the ship is trash.

I don't want to see better accuracy on secondaries, I'd like less. People rely on them too much instead of learing how to aim their main guns. I consider them a crutch for mediocre to bad players.
Bronze league I play DD hunters. Best was Indianapolis; T7 radar :D. But Mino, Neptune are great too. Ragnar can work, but the DPM was cut a bit. Silver, I can transfer to DM; there is more smart DD players, so I can rely on them not doing stupid stuff every time. But there is also a lot of stupid GKs I can farm with a DM. Golden; I am not best at golden. Have not yet found my place. Sometimes I win 7 in a row, sometimes I can not sustain a star.

Ships like Smalland and the French DD's need to get nerfed and/or lose their heals. It makes no sense to have DD's with heals and radars. I mean can we get a shima with 60 second torp reload and heals? Or maybe low observable torps? The older DD's get small or no buffs while the new gunboats get so much firepower that they can fight heads up with light cruisers.
So long term with the gunboat getting all the favortism then you get BB's hanging back because they can't kill the gunboats either. It hurts the game not helps it...
Smaland definitely could use a concealment nerf I think, it's honestly fairly good at trading Vs the likes of Marceau so I think it should get at least a 6.5km minimum concealment, I'd probably removed one heal as well to bring it in line with ragnar
Honestly there is no other way to impact ranked other then a DD these days. Basically have to play like it is 1v6. That being said I have no idea how you managed to not run into the teammates I regularly see that are AFK, have no idea how tier 10 works, and seem to do actively work against winning games by not helping with objectives, focusing targets, or just dieing for no reason. Or just run into a steamrolling team that actually works together. So many games sabotaged as there is only so many places a person can be, and damage one can tank.
Interesting video on how a top 1% player plays, but really as a 54% player I know I will never get a series of games like this or be able to make those plays. I'm the normal player in the video that gets killed every time for the top players to rank up on even if I am in a DD doing everything right. Your ranked experience doesn't seem to match what most players see.
Agree 100%. To get a good match with teamplay is rare, to get a string of them is nigh on wishful thinking. Also a pet peeve that has been winding me up so much in Ranked is Radar disparagy. Far too many times it 1vs2/3. Pure game winning MM unless the radars are in the control of Potato's.
No, bb are a lot more impactful in ranked, they dictate the pace of the game. But since campers that use thunderer are infesting this class they end up being useless.
Nope, as we all know, CVs are not balanced in any 6v6 situation so CVs are actually much more impactful than DDs.
I had plenty of games where it felt like my DDs actively tried to sabotage the team.
Once i brought an enemy Druid down to 4k HP in my Napoli. Our ful HP Marceau rushed him from cover at roughly 5km.
He launched is first set of torps and missed, made a full turn and launched the other set. Also missed. The enemy Druid escaped, still having 4k left while our Marceau was down to 2k.
Just play DD yourself. Not because you might be good at them, but so you take the place some really bad player might take in tour team.
If Broze is already hard, why should i want to get Silver?

Major correction needed here…if you want to win ranked, play a ship that is overpowered, broken and no longer available to other players so you have an unfair advantage over them and have all the fun as well. In this case, what is a Shima or Halland supposed to do? It’s traditional role is to spot the enemy dd but the minute it spots the Smaland, it is guaranteed to be wiped out by a 7.5km radar, speed boost and HE DPM. Is that a fair fight? You shouldn’t be promoting broken ships like this
Secondaries could use the WoWs Legends aim assists imo
playing ragnar or smalland in ranked, means no one cares to see your results because everyone knows they are the 2 most busted ships in the game. If you removed the ship because it was OP, why the hell is it allowed in ranked? They have great AA to deal with CVs, they both have good torps, both have good guns, both have radar. Unless your fighting a literal potato you can't really compete. DD's should of never had radar, it breaks the balance of DD fights with 1 button. And this is coming from a DD main with like 80k avg DD dmg. Sherman is the only time i feel i have a chance to win over smalland or ragnar, and that takes some serious thinking and effort with teammates at 40% W/R
Hmm I'm another DD main and I agree actually, WG needed the YY heavily due to its overuse in competitive for the radar and now they added Ragnar and smaland into the game which are both stronger than pre-nerf YY. I don't mind Ragnar so much because it has no torps and has a really bad concealment and proportionate DPM, but the smaland is honestly just busted. I don't get why it hasn't been merged like Ragnar reload yet as it's always been stronger than Ragnar.
PQ is either very lucky or these look pretty cherry picked. It's so easy for something like a Nakhimov or Midway to just completely shut down a DD and make your life miserable. A good CV would have easily controlled any of these engagements that were shown in this video and PQ would not have gotten away with anything shown here.
It's not really true that DDs carry ranked games. In reality, given it's 6v6 and CVs are balanced for 12v12, CVs are the masters of ranked.
You realize that you'll see a DD at a far higher rate than you'll see a CV, right? Just from a probability perspective, DDs are more common than CVs. So yes, DDs are the Masters of Ranked.
As for PQ videos, the enemy CVs were probably more interested in DMG Farming the Hulking BBs.... a common trait in CV Players.
@@goldenkizaru1560 what? That's ridiculous to say just because they aren't as common as DDs, they don't dominate. You can just play a CV yourself and you'll get CV games 100% of the time.
If there were any enemy CVs, and they weren't focusing PQ, then you're literally proving my point. If you went in with a CV and didn't farm BBs, and focused enemy DDs, then you'd shut down a player like PQ and collect wins easily.
True. I played a few Nakhimov ranked games for the rocket and spotting dockyard missions.
First thing to do is to go with skip bombers and spot/hunt enemy DDs. It is completely busted against those and i killed some with just 2 drops. Even if they angle they often loose half hp and play extremely passive to avoid further dmg. The only DD that comes to my mind that could somewhat deal with that without going into a passive role is *surprise* the Smaland.
i dont bother playing ranked , You need to play as a team and sadly too many players just yolo and lose it for you , ends up a frustrating waste of time
No ship used in ranked should be unavailable. Completely unfair to people who join the game this year.
It’s like new Petros being nerfed while old Petros are not.
Another form of pay to win. No new player can match older players, regardless of time or resources they are willing to commit to the game.

You aren’t wrong about the advantage long term players have in ship choice, but you are absolutely wrong about petro. Everyone’s petro is exactly the same, new or old. When ships get nerfed or buffed, it is applied universally, not just to any newly minted ones. The code is spaghetti enough as it is without needing to keep track of a hundred tweaks and which vintage each version of a ship comes from…
You wanna see toxic people start playing ranked. Ive watched a few videos and played a dozen matches so far and its been suggested that I kill myself 3 times, castration once, and just general unhappiness. If you play ranked be sure you are an expert before match #1.
