      @LarzB Před 3 lety +7

      There is nothing wrong with that, especially at that level it is a good tactic. A match isn't about being friendly to each other. Also not tennis. It is about getting the ball over the net in the right box and try to do it in a way that it doesn't come back the right way. Tennis is just that and anything else is can be nice but it's just decoration, nothing else.

      @@fabienh3943 you're mistaken, there are several books and other tennis sources that actually have targeting the body (not the head, but torso and lower) as part of strategy. Especially in doubles but also singles.
      That on lower levels it is seen as aggressive i understand, but at advanced level it is part of different strategies.
      Those strategies even have a name, the bulldozer and the hulk smash.
      At advanced level, you should be able to defend yourself against body shots.
      Even with the serve you have targeting the body.

    Not a cut on the Bryan Bros, who may just be the strongest doubles team ever, but this just demonstrates why doubles is a level or two below singles in tennis, and why Billie Jean King Moffat etc should pipe down about grand slams. When considering the greatest players of all time the discussion is limited to what man (sorry serena lovers, she's third to graf and court anyway on the distaff side) won the most singles titles or singles slams (arguments for both are valid) should determine it. Doubles is a novelty, nothing more.

    • @hiwayman981
      @hiwayman981 Před 3 lety +1

      If that's true, then Martina (the first one) must enter your side point about best women players. I replied to your comment b/c I think that Navratilova is too often dismissed in terms of the "greatest" conversation due to here "mere" 18 singles slam titles. I agree w/you too about Serena; she's only seeking the most singles titles at the slam events; she'll still be well behind Navratilova, Evert, Graf, and Court in terms of all singles titles amassed by each of these players, and more to my point, overall dominance in women's singles tennis.

None of these players dominated their peers like she did. NONE OF THEM

    • @danguee1

      Good points by a few people in this thread. Mixed and doubles don't count for much - for decades now the top singles players have paid them scant attention.
      But in respect of Zuko's point about dominating peers - that's bogus a) because it all depends on who's the best of your peers (Navratilova had Evert and visa versa - without each other around they could easily have won 25 GS's but had to share 36 between them; Djoko, Rafa and Fed had each other and all three STILL managed to outscore all other on GS titles) b) the crop of women the last decade or so have been quite clearly crap (when last there was another good woman player - Henin I guess - Serena and Justine were very close H2H)

    • @zukomnukwa1726
      @zukomnukwa1726 Před 3 lety +4

      @@danguee1 in terms of h2h against top players, Serena walks as you clearly pointed out that it’s Justine (Hingis and Venus too) who have a close H2H against Serena and she has dominated the rest (Davenport, Clijsters, Capriati, Mauresmo, Sharapova, Azarenka, Li Na, Kerber etc) and these aren’t crap players, they’ve topped rankings and won multiple GS across different decades (1990s - 2020). Y’all just don’t want to give her credit and use her achievements against men to minimize her dominance in the WTA
