Change is Inevitable, Awareness is Eternal - Ram Dass

- Ram Dass first went to India in 1967. He was still Dr. Richard Alpert, a prominent Harvard psychologist and psychedelic pioneer with Dr. Timothy Leary. He continued his psychedelic research until that fateful Eastern trip in 1967, when he traveled to India. In India, he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, affectionately known as Maharajji, who gave Ram Dass his name, which means “servant of God.” Everything changed then - his intense dharmic life started, and he became a pivotal influence on a culture that has reverberated with the words “Be Here Now” ever since. Ram Dass’ spirit has been a guiding light for three generations, carrying along millions on the journey, helping to free them from their bonds as he works through his own.
Since 1968, Ram Dass has pursued a panoramic array of spiritual methods and practices from potent ancient wisdom traditions, including bhakti or devotional yoga focused on the Hindu deity Hanuman; Buddhist meditation in the Theravadin, Mahayana Tibetan, and Zen Buddhist schools, and Sufi and Jewish mystical studies. Perhaps most significantly, his practice of karma yoga or spiritual service has opened up millions of other souls to their deep, yet individuated spiritual practice and path. Ram Dass continues to uphold the boddhisatva ideal for others through his compassionate sharing of true knowledge and vision. His unique skill in getting people to cut through and feel divine love without dogma is still a positive influence on many people from all over the planet.

To the person reading this: THANK YOU for being here and adding value to our world 💖 Hope you are always aware and embrace the changes. Have a blessed day filled with joy, happiness, health and love! 💖
Dropping large nuclear bombs on cities is "change"
This is craptastic woo mixed in with some word salad. It's awful. Worse, it's some "White guy" pretending to be an Eastern Mystic.
You’re so sweet ✨
I don’t think so!
🤯🔫
You too my friend, stay blessed stay happy 😇🤘🏻✌🏻🌻🌼
This channel is pure water in the desert.
I’m so grateful for it because sometimes, even if I know what is right, I forget about it.
I get lost in this life full of alienation. Then I come back here to this channel, and I remember again what it feels to be aware.
Thank you
Thank you. Your comment just made my day. One love.
@@AfterSkool One Love to all of you!!
@@AfterSkool One love, know that he is not the only one ;), keep being you!
One day in 1986 someone leaned into math class and said, "There's a speaker in the auditorium and there's enough room for more people to join". We joined the audience and heard Ram Dass speak for the next hour. I went to the coolest high school in the world!
holy smokes! what an opportunity.
Did it have an effect on you at the time?
@@ReafDraw I still reflect on his talk, which was anti-drugs. He encouraged meditation and activities like knitting or swimming as mind altering experiences. I had never tried drugs, so it didn't resonate with me at the time. Over the years I've remembered his words when I've found myself stuck in self-destructive habits.
Change is effortless, resistance creates the problems. Learn to let go
Effortlessness is not automatically good; as well as resistance can prevent you from problems, that will come with change/acceleration.
Letting go is an attachment.
Everyone false prophet.
the way that he describes aging is absolutely beautiful and I wish that the world would adopt this perspective. Just seeing the fine lines on someones face is a map of an expansive journey.
You want to hear something beautiful I was blessed to witness? when my Dad died at 93, he had not a line on his face. same with my aunt, his sister, who died at 99. both farm folk. living the way people should.
Wishing is not necessary, look to your own form & smile... 😊🙏
Change can be tough but necessary for growth. It's not always beautiful or easy.
It’s all beautiful
Handed in my notice on a job that I've really really not been enjoying for the last year and half.
Heres to embracing change and working towards finding and meaningful work that I look forward to waking up to every day ✌️☯️😊
“If I would like to live in a happy world maybe what I could contribute is happiness”. Timeless wisdom. Be the change that you want to see in the world… 🙏🏽
The hardest lesson I've found is you can only share this fruit by living it and only with those who really want to know more with sincere open hearts. They are usually the only ones asking in the first place.
"The only constant in life is change."-Heraclities.
💖"bear the unbearable with a giggle" that's me now 😂, its funny because i have noticed people don't really like it when you are laughing and smiling when THEY THINK you should be sad or miserable. Its pretty interesting
I cannot say how much I needed to hear this at this very moment.
“All we want is certainty but all there is.. is change”
I just want to say how much these videos have changed my life. I love sharing after skool with everyone I know. Thank you so much.
That was beautiful.
I am 65 and these questions keep on rising up.
A wonderful insight.
Everyday I remind myself that Life is Change.
This is Important Because I trade a day of my life for change.
Thank you for another incredible video with words brought to life even more through incredible illustrations.
Thank you :)
That’s for sure...
What a talent eh?
I absolutely love the artist's depictions on this channel. When I was in art school in college there was a kind of snobbery that existed amongst the students. So many acted as if they were better because they used oil paint. I didn't have much interest in oil I wanted to be different. I created my own style from my imagination with a combination of ink, acrylic, and water color. My professor thought what I was doing was awesome. Now here I stand looking at a popular channel in our time where an artist is thriving on beautiful art made from what looks like dry erase markers. This is proof that standing alone with your own ideas is what makes a great artist. I don't want my art to be compared to someone from the past.
“But a person needs new experiences. They jar something deep inside allowing him to grow. Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.” Duke Leo Atreides, Dune 1984.
A gem!
The story(MOTS) with the bird was deeper than some may actually realize.
"If i would like to live in a happy world maybe what i could contribute is happiness" yes stop focusing on the bad and being sad and serious if you really wanna see the world change CHANGE your vibration raise your vibration be loving and comfortable around all give good energy in your words tone and personality be the leader be the change you want to see be kind in a world moving more toward narcissim, fear of disease, and conservatism. together we can change society with POSITIVITY
Ram Dass has a way of bringing me back to the Truth that nothing else does... Thank you for sharing his wise words with these beautiful illustrations ❤
I have told practically everyone I know about the fact that we are living in a very interesting time. I look forward for ever moment to come.
I've been using w33d daily for years, today I decided to give it a break and the universe rewards me with this beautiful video about change, thank you After Skool, thank you universe.
Go Andrè
It was another century and he allowed us to change the world from our inside firstly, without fear.
Love Baba Ram Dass and his lineage of teachers. Love everyone! Thank you for your delightful art to conscious conversations. 🕊🙏
To the creator: I love you. Thankyou for all you do. I am so grateful for the way you've illustrated so many amazing concepts that alleviate, that cure the mental dis-ease of existing in modern society
Thanks 🙏🏻 This resonates with a quote I’ve read from ancient texts I’d like to share:
Forget not that life has but one purpose, one end and one objective, and that is the awakening of the souls of men. All things on Earth conform to that end. Earth without its perplexities and problems, its struggle and strife, its inequalities and injustices, would never develop the soul in a manner meet for its destiny. This is the answer to the riddle of ages. If all were right with the Earth, there would be nothing for man to do; as it is, there is sufficient to occupy him throughout his generations. When man himself is perfect, its purpose will be fulfilled, and then Earth, too, will be perfect.
There was a very strange feature in this case, strange because of its extremely rare occurrence. This man had once been brought to the scaffold in company with several others, and had had the sentence of death by shooting passed upon him for some political crime. Twenty minutes later he had been reprieved and some other punishment substituted; but the interval between the two sentences, twenty minutes, or at least a quarter of an hour, had been passed in the certainty that within a few minutes he must die. I was very anxious to hear him speak of his impressions during that dreadful time, and I several times inquired of him as to what he thought and felt. He remembered everything with the most accurate and extraordinary distinctness, and declared that he would never forget a single iota of the experience. ‘About twenty paces from the scaffold, where he had stood to hear the sentence, were three posts, fixed in the ground, to which to fasten the criminals (of whom there were several). The first three criminals were taken to the posts, dressed in long white tunics, with white caps drawn over their faces, so that they could not see the rifles pointed at them. Then a group of soldiers took their stand opposite to each post. My friend was the eighth on the list, and therefore he would have been among the third lot to go up. A priest went about among them with a cross: and there was about five minutes of time left for him to live. ‘He said that those five minutes seemed to him to be a most interminable period, an enormous wealth of time; he seemed to be living, in these minutes, so many lives that there was no need as yet to think of that last moment, so that he made several arrangements, dividing up the time into portions-one for saying farewell to his companions, two minutes for that; then a couple more for thinking over his own life and career and all about himself; and another minute for a last look around. He remembered having divided his time like this quite well. While saying good- bye to his friends he recollected asking one of them some very usual everyday question, and being much interested in the answer. Then having bade farewell, he embarked upon those two minutes which he had allotted to looking into himself; he knew beforehand what he was going to think about. He wished to put it to himself as quickly and clearly as possible, that here was he, a living, thinking man, and that in three minutes he would be nobody; or if somebody or something, then what and where? He thought he would decide this question once
for all in these last three minutes. A little way off there stood a church, and its gilded spire glittered in the sun. He remembered staring stubbornly at this spire, and at the rays of light sparkling from it. He could not tear his eyes from these rays of light; he got the idea that these rays were his new nature, and that in three minutes he would become one of them, amalgamated somehow with them. ‘The repugnance to what must ensue almost immediately, and the uncertainty, were dreadful, he said; but worst of all was the idea, ‘What should I do if I were not to die now? What if I were to return to life again? What an eternity of days, and all mine! How I should grudge and count up every minute of it, so as to waste not a single instant!’ He said that this thought weighed so upon him and became such a terrible burden upon his brain that he could not bear it, and wished they would shoot him quickly and have done with it.’¹
You have no idea how much the is channel has gotten me through the darkest points in my life. And they don’t matter anymore. Your videos helped open my eyes.

Dear After Skool, I’d love to see you animate a song one of these days. Maybe your favorite song or a song with a message you think the world needs to hear. I love music, and your visuals are always so breathtaking that I’d love to see and hear them combined. Just a thought. Thanks again for all the great videos.

Sublime!
Wow….😮, amazing
I left my life in China as a TEFL teacher of 12 years to move to Spain, but it's been extremely difficult.
I can't even find an unskilled job back here in the UK. I feel so mournful that I let down my beloved students and I'm so sad.
I know change is good and things will sort themselves out, but today, it's hard seeing that.❤
Beautiful, this was very helpful right now. Seriously grateful for this channel.
