  • Tom DeLonge (Angels & Airwaves, Blink 182) takes a break from his recent VOX photo shoot to tell us about how indispensable the AC30 is to his sound. "I've used it on every single song I've recorded since the beginning of Angels & Airwaves and all the way through the last Blink record as well... Every song I've recorded, every show I've played, has been through these amplifiers." Guess he likes 'em!

    It sounds incredible. You have to appreciate that he isn't hiding his playing anymore. He's not 25 anymore, he doesn't need Creed amounts of gain.

    I wouldn't say that 90% of the time rock bands use ac30s but I would say that they sound amazing...

    Whenever I show up to gigs I get the same two comments from every sound guy. Before the show: "Is that a real AC30?". After the show: "Wow that thing sounds so awesome!"

    I love the sound of Mesa amps and at some point I want a Dual Rectifier, but the amp I bought myself two years ago is this exact one, an AC30 Handwired with alnico blue speakers. I really dig Tom's tone on all of his albums over the years, still the sound of a humbucker guitar through a lightly/moderately distorted AC30 is my preferred tone.

    looks like a HW2 or HW2X the difference between them is the speaker which you can't see, the blue speakers sound better though which is the HW2X it's also $2000 New but it does sound fantastic.

    Thats not really true. Distortion pedals sound pretty awful. A nice overdrive pedal into an AC30 or Fender will sound great, but so will something like a Rockerverb or JCM2000 with their own gain channel. Theres just a difference between preamp and poweramp distortion and from there it comes down to preference.

    The one thing i love about life is having your own opinion...That's why i didn't say "you're wrong", or "that's not true". I disagreed, in my opinion, neighborhoods had the best guitar sound, along with the live shows now that he's using ac30/65 twin. That's my opinion, true or not true. i think too man people just want tom to go back to his old style of clothes and gear cuz it was more "skater" which is immature, props to you if youre not one of them and actually care about the important things

    An AC30 can push more lows if you install some 6P14P's (a Russian mil spec el84m,super rugged and handles extra voltage) and increase the TB channel's coupling capacitor value.My AC30CC sounds great like this.

    Funny thing is I was playing a vox the other day, and it does not even compare to a fender deluxe, tubes are the way to go mesa, marshall, fender, and sometimes orange.

    • @brandonbryson3317
      @brandonbryson3317 Před 7 lety +2

      David Pierson lol funny you say that...I got a fender deluxe after owning an AC30 combo for years(got tired of lugging the weight around) and after about 3 hours or playing I said "yep....I'm returning this and getting an AC30 handwired head." To me, the Vox destroys 90% of what Marshall and fender are selling right now.

    I used to listen to Blink182 but now I find myself changing the song when any of theirs come on, kinda an indie rock junkie now, I somehow came to this video and he's actually using the same amp I bought a year ago. I will say blink182 is good to start with learning how to play guitar they teach you a lot about progressions, intervals, etc. by the way I recommend Maps by The Front Bottoms the singer kinda sounds like this guy.

  • @VidicsFerenc
    @VidicsFerenc Před 12 lety +1

    Mesa and Marshall is always a great combo.. This amp is the best for Angels And Airwaves but come on Blink-182 used to be a Punk band with tons of disortion where you can barely hear the notes

  • @superflea72
    @superflea72 Před 12 lety +2

    I'm with Tom, VOX AC's (I have an AC15HW) are a beautiful thing. I also came late to the VOX party thinking that they were for Ric-slinging Beatles nerds, but not so! I get all kinds of great sounds out of mine, and drive it with one pedal to get a little extra gain - too easy.
    Mesa's are for metal-heads who wouldn't appreciate the complex tone of a good amp anyway, they only want to hear chugga-chugga all the time.

    Both incredible amps, but you're comparing an old English classic to an American murder weapon, which just can't work. He's just going for a different sound. Which he's clearly done.

  • @VidicsFerenc
    @VidicsFerenc Před 12 lety

    okay but if i count how many notes played on a guitar on the new record it would lose to any other blink albums its definitely not a guitar based record... and its more like a fact not a taste kind of thing so with that i mean its not that creative guitarwise those songs are delay reverb and sytnh based

  • @VidicsFerenc

  • @salwalker
    @salwalker Před 12 lety

    I'll have to disagree with that, staying true to "blink sound" or not, Neighborhoods had the best sounding guitar of any album yet. Best tone and most crisp (clean and dirty) Been a fan for 13 yrs now, i'd say they're one of the few bands who have sounded better and better with each album. I own the ac30h2 so it may be biased, but i played both mixes of amps before i got my fender/vox set up, i still would like the pick up a mesa rectifier down the road. They are all top of the line amplifiers.
