The Chevy Chase actor is spot on
Corey Michael Smith, who was also The Riddler in Gotham
Yeah, that last scene was amazing.
I'm just as impressed by the lead playing Lorne Michaels. He's not doing some kind of caricature of his voice or anything, he just looks and acts exactly like him in all the subtle ways. Him standing there silently watching from under the camera is like, identical to a photo of Lorne down to his face and the way he stands
cory michael smith…. watch transatlantic

I can’t wait until they expand this Movie universe and get to the Chris Farley era
lol, can't wait for the Saturverse
New Line Cinema is doing a Chris Farley biopic with Paul Walter Hauser!
Can’t wait for the sequel all about the time they were dumb enough to let Steven Seagal on set
Chris Farley? How about Eddie Murphy era first?
So you would like them to turn this into a franchise? Well, knowing Hollywood these days, your wish will come true.
That one line from the chevy chase actor has me convinced this is going to be good 😂
It’s the riddler from Gotham
It was just like something Chevy would say,
Too bad is the absolute last thing in the trailer lol
can't believe an SNL film looks so inspired by after hours but that gets me so hyped 😭
Can I point how perfect Cory Michael Smith looks as a young Chevy Chase? It's uncanny.
YES!!
This looks like the best episode of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip yet!
Half of Studio 60 was about virtue signaling. This doesn't look like that at all thankfully.
Oh so that’s why Jason Reitman couldn’t direct Ghostbusters Frozen Empire
His father passed away after Afterlife debuted and he needed to pull away from directing for a bit so Frozen Empire's producers agreed to let him take a production role and give the reigns to someone else. He then ended up doing this.
That's because Monster House director Gil Kenan replaced him.
@@ZiddersRooFurry I know that.
The dude playing John Belushi looks spot on!
@@jay_jade94he's playing Aykroyd
Perfect timing for SNL 50th Anniversary on NBC.
Perfect timing would've been next year on the actual 50th anniversary.
50th season, not 50th anniversary.
@@DLZ2000 Season 50?
50th season, approximately 30 of them were tolerable
1975,its 2024,your math is terrible
Cousin Greg sounding just like Cousin Greg
an unexpected but really perfect casting for Jim Henson
@@JackHammer503 I wasn't familiar with Jim Henson at all. But when I looked up and saw a couple of his videos, it does seem Nicholas is just the right choice.
He must be pulling dual role duties. Cause I’m pretty sure that’s also him playing Andy Kaufman.
this being released during SNL's 50th anniversary is baller
Yass the timing couldn't be perfect
The anniversary is next year
49th anniversary, the trailer literally opens with 1975,you people suck at math 🤣🤣🤣
@@talesfromthehoodtv503 Unless he technically means Season 50, which the upcoming Season will be technically.
@@axr7149 anniversaries are yearly traditions, not seasonal 🤣🤣🤣 stop trying to defend his stupidity
Jason Reitman is easily one of the best directors out there in my opinion and a really cool guy. I can’t for this as a SNL fan.
one of the best? like maybe top 200 working directors
This actually looks really good
The meta joke, for anyone who missed it, is that the trailer (and story) is referencing the plot and first trailer for Danny Boyle's Steve Jobs. The two leads arguing intercut with scenes of problems arising moments before a big live show. Promises of how if executed, it will transform culture. Even the crescendoing bass beat matches the foot thumping crescendo! Wild stuff.
Very happy I wasn’t the only who thought this
Jason Reitman was clearly watching a lot of Aaron Sorkin before making this.
thats not a meta joke, thats just them plagiarizing another trailer
@robertfrenay4078 Homage is an age old technique in filmmaking, but the line between homage and ripping off isn't clear, and arguably there isn't a difference. It just matters if the material is good on its own or not
Yeah I should be clear, me calling it a “meta joke” implies presumed intentionality, but I have no idea the circumstances around the choices here! Call it an interesting coincidence for people who spend too much time rewatching movie trailers on youtube lol
Jason Reitman wasn’t kidding. This really is a, in his words, “thriller comedy” and time itself is the villain.
I remember being 16 & and my older brother and I were so excited for this show! It was live and from New York (we are both native New Yorkers) Our parents told us to turn down the volume of the TV, they were sleeping lol
Saturday Night Live gets their own movie, congratulations
Being produced by a studio who has ZERO ties to SNL, so I guess double congrats 🎉
3rd movie if you want to count A Futile and Stupid Gesture and that one Gilda Radner biopic.
The chaos of The Bear has set us up for this lol
Why are you f*cking with me?!
WHY ARE YOU F*CKING WITH ME?!
Are you really under the impression The Bear was original?
All according to keikaku
@@Burke76 with the manic show building of The Muppets 2011 Movie!
@@chand911not what they said. They said the chaos of the Bear set them up for this. Which translates to, I imagine, the OP stating the Bear was their first exposure to this high-anxiety style. There’s no claim the Bear invented it. Don’t create contention where none is necessary.
2:03 well it’s nice to know they’re depicting Chevy accurately
Matthew MacFayden in Deadpool 2, Keiran Culkin in a Real Pain & Nicholas Braun in Saturday Night, cool Year for the Succession cast post Succession
Technically Deadpool 2 but Deadpool 3
And Jeremy Strong won a Tony
Cousin Greg playing Andy Kaufman and Jim Henson. That's something.
A real Tony Clifton move. ;)
Having Jim Henson mention what Michael O’ Donoughe did to a Big Bird toy because he (O’ Donoughe) hated writing for the SNL Muppets is the kind of detail that makes me want to see this movie!
nic braun playing 2 characters in this is so fckn electric
This actually looks really good! All the actors look to be spot on with who they're playing, especially Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase!
He needs more roles. Loved his riddler and he’s seems like he’s gonna make a great Chevy.
Being my favorite original cast member, whoever plays Dan Aykroyd does an amazing job.
50 years later, it's safe to say that SNL did NOT fail. Even if its relevancy has seen better days.
49 years later,the trailer opens with 1975,not 74
I was already sold based on the casting, but the trailer further solidifies this as one of my most anticipated films of the year. Cast looks spot-on.
Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!
This is giving me The Bear vibes and I'm here for it.
Looks amazing! I cannot imagine what it was like for these actors to portray these iconic personalities!
Jason Reitman knows how to make movies-- I can't wait!
Lamorne is having a moment and i love it.
Hey, has anyone other than myself actually seen the first aired episode. I feel like it makes this whole trailer even better! Especially the George Carlin, and Henson bits!
Jeez, the Riddler is playing Chevy Chase. This is gonna be good.
I have been a huge SNL fan since Season 38, and I love everything thing about it, from the cold opening with “Live from New York! I'ts Saturday Night Live!” to the monologue, to Weekend Update, the various cast members and Guest Hosts they had over the years, and to see a movie about the first episode of Saturday Night? It’s going to be flantastic!… What I'm being told the world is fantastic, not flantastic! Sorry, never mind!
After watching A Futile and Stupid Gesture it’s hard to root for Lorne Michaels when he took most of the staff of the National Lampoon magazine and radio hour RIP Douglas Kenney
Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead is one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen as relating to crazy comedy origin shit.
But it wasn't like Doug was a straight arrow, TBH. Lorne was a staff writer on "Laugh-In" and wanted to showrun a variety show that celebrated old school live TV while being sociopolitically conscious.
Willem Dafoe just keeps working doesn't he??
Not complaining, love me some Dafoe!!
I didn’t know Steven Spielberg created snl
This film is going to be somewhat like the 2011 muppets movie, really can't wait for it!
And after all these years of movies based off their most famous skits from back in the day, SNL itself is getting a movie!
It has all come together to lead up for this moment!
@@Otisboy121 yeah those 50 years is definitely worth it when a SNL movie finally becomes a thing!
Greg from Succession is playing Jim Henson... hilarious 😂
50 years later still going strong ❤
gabriel labelle come get your oscar im calling it now!!!
It's alright for fighting
This is going to be incredible
Matthew Rhys as George Carlin is actually really good, already comfortable in disguises obviously
"...riiiiiiiight."
😂😂😂
I remember watching the first show as a Freshman in 1975 in my college dorm TV lounge...
They had to call it "Saturday Night" because Howard Cosell already had "Saturday Night Live" for his ABC variety show. They picked up "Saturday Night Live" after that show got cancelled and off the air.
Note that the cold open close line has never changed. It's STILL, "LIVE, from New York, it's SATURDAY NIGHT!"
How jealous is EVERY SNL cast member that someone get to do a Lorne impression for a whole movie??
I’m using that line next time I fall over.
1:36 Cousin Greg is Andy Kaufman??? I'm sold.
No he’s Jim Henson.
Oh, I’m sorry, so we got a Chevy Chase clone and brought Gilda Radner back from the dead? Yeah, I will be watching
excited for this
Is this actually the SNL 1975 movie that was in development?
Sure is.
yeah they retitled it to Saturday Night recently
Yup!
@@c-mcwhich is appropriate because that's what it was called the first year. As there was another show called "Saturday Night Live" hosted by Howard Cowsell on ABC that would cover the Evil Kenivel jumps and so they weren't allowed to use it . And that's why to this day they still say at the beginning of SNL "Live from New York it's Saturday Night".
You could tell by the joke that it's Chevy, hot dang. Well timed.
The cowbell in the soundtrack is a nice touch 🐄🔔
Whoever plays George Carlin is spot on right down to the voice
Matthew Rhys, completely unrecognizable! I love it!
They got me.. I’m sold
I remember those days fondly. Best show ever on TV.
Cant wait for the scene when the whole cast do lines of the Bolivian marching powder while nailing Carrie Fisher
Lorne Michaels pulled off the impossible confirmed
Potentially the great film ever made.
Bro it's Thursday 💀
If it was not for SNL, some of our favorite movies would not exist today! Groundbreaking and gave us some of our favorite movie stars. People will always quote "I live in a van down by the river!" or "We are two wild and crazy guys" or "Talk amongst yourselves. I’ll give you a topic…"
Cory and Dylan in the same movie is what I wanted the most, can't wait for this movie!
Back in the day (80s) I became obsessed with John Belushi and, as a result, the initial period of SNL. I can't WAIT to see this movie! Hope this turns a new generation on to Gilda Radner and Laraine Newman (whose daughter Hannah has been KILLING IT in Hacks). This is a bit of a dream come true, tbh.
SNL "counter culture" "cutting edge",...it really was something once upon a time.
I've been waiting for this for decades. 💯
A mid budget drama in theaters? It’s exciting to see one of those!
Never thought SNL got their origin movie, Hope Lorne Michaels in the movie
If this movie does well, I can see them getting a 80’s and 90’s sequel.
Wow ! dude who played Riddler on Gotham is just SLAYING as Chevy Chase
Oh. My. Glob.
Andy Kaufman looks AWESOME
Rachel Sennott world domination!
Mother be mothering
This looks soooo good! The casting of Lorne Michaels in particular is spot on. Glad that dude's getting good work!
If he keeps at it, Cooper will eventually win an Oscar just like his papa :')
This looks so good! I hope that everything, this happening in this trailer actually happened and not be over dramatized about these events. It would be so great if this whole film was 90 mins too!
Ha! Looks funny and cool!! Refreshing to see these "countdown" type of narrative!! Can't wait!!
We need this movie
I actually can’t wait for this…
The can only ever be one Andy Kaufman, and that's Jim Carrey.
This cultural TV Moment deserves a good movie. Hopefully this is it.
Did I see Dylan O’Brien!!
Nicholas Braun as Jim Henson is spot on.
DYLAN IS BACK!!!!!
After hours 2: electric boogaloo
why am i hyped😭😭
Never been more amped for a biopic
You know, a film that goes behind the scenes of SNL like this actually seems interesting.
Why do I just know this movie will have either "Saturday Night's Alright Right for Fighting", "Saturday Night Fever", "Almost Saturday Night" or some combination of all three in its soundtrack?
That looks awesome!
This is the Avengers movie I've been waiting for.
This Should Be From Universal Pictures!
Love it already!
Why is this movie actually produced by Sony but not Universal who owns NBC and SNL? How does this even work? 😂😂😂
Because I very much doubt NBC/Universal would support a film that puts the studio in a bad light like this one does.
Sony is basically a free agent among the major studios. No major TV network within their company. Netflix has their newer movies after they're in theatres.
so pumped for this!
When i firdt saw the title i thought it was a movie based on the elton john song lol
Finally...thank you.
I can’t wait for this. It’s gonna be so good
Wow. That Jim Henson. Wow.
this is spot on!! haha
