"A poet is an unhappy being whose heart it torn by secret sufferings, but whose lips are so strangely formed that when the sighs and the cries escape them, they sound like beautiful music... and then people crowd about the poet and say to him: "Sing for us soon again;" that is as much as to say. "May new sufferings torment your soul." - Søren Kierkegaard
What a great quote, I don't know if you are a poet or writer or where you found this but I feel it is so appropriate for most of the singer/songwriters we have lost in the last 20 years. Thank you for posting.
I feel this may be the other way around. As to say a poet is a happy person surrounded by the unhappiness of the world. One soul can only take so many abominations before it reflects the things around it

I prefer this version. His emotion, the way he emotes, the way he sits in the stool, the way he strokes the strings on his guitar, the way his face is blackened out, the intimacy I feel from this man delivers a beautiful message about the song that he is singing. I listened to this during the eclipse and it made me feel like I mattered and didn't matter at all..and that all things matter in the grand design. The blackhole sun purifies me.
Actually, "Black Hole Sun" signifies heroin drug use. It's the very moment when the drug is injected intravenously and goes person sees nothing else but what looks like an eclipse of the sun b4 they feel ecstacy from their injected dose and black out!!

Chris lives on my friends, or we would not still be here talking about him and enjoying this great acoustic version of Black Hole Sun. I still play his songs every day on guitar, and passed his music on to my daughter who loves his music as well. Rock on Chris.
I can't believe it...Chris died...God I must be dreaming...Oh no...we lost one of the greatest artists of all time...I know his voice will remain forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, Chris Cornell...
Chris was one of the best rock lyricists of all time in addition to having one of the greatest voices in all of rock. So sad about the loss. Long live him, RIP.
Chris Cornell will never die out. His voice is a beautiful gift to us . Both hard and acoustic . I remember when his first song hit mtv. I was like wow he is a sexy beast and a killer voice. Then he started to do acoustic stuff after Temple of the dogs and it made me love him more. Him and Eddie Vedder can sing almost anything.
It's so sad that Eddie lost his best friend to the Queen of Collections. Listen to "Comes then Goes" on Gigaton by Pearl Jam. It is so true and so sad.

hardly been underrated as one of their top if not the top listened to songs by soundgarden. If you listen to interviews it was highly rated by all of his peers in the day as a new yardstick to measure their own material by.
I remember hearing this song for the first time in the spring of 1994 when I was just turning 25... Would do anything to live that summer over again.... The music, the love, the fun...
Man. I guess you don't really realize how much you like someone till they are gone. I was certainly a fan. I'm a 44 year old white guy. I was not prepared for how bad I feel that he is gone. We lost a voice of a generation. You will be missed R.I.P. C.C.
*My CZcams Comments Five Months Ago* This is my favorite way to hear Chris Cornell: singing alone with his acoustic guitar. If you like this, too, I highly recommend his Songbook CD. I saw him on his Songbook tour twice and would've seen him every night of his tour if I could have. I hope he continues to do solo work and solo tours, even when he has Soundgarden things going on. I support all of his music. He is a living legend! ~Musical One Owner & Manager of the Chris Cornell Community on Google+
I was in my mid-twenties when "grunge" rock started in the early 90's. I listened to a few of the bands - Soundgarden was one. It was his voice that sold me on the band. So much power, range, and it hit home with me. Then it was the lyrics, and finally the music itself. Well time goes on and things change - I lost track of time and Chris' music slipped away from me. I'd only recently re-discovered him, going back through Audioslave and finally his solo work. I never thought his passing would affect me the way it has. Thank you, Fola, for sharing this with us. It means a lot to many of us.
The black hole you left in our hearts will never heal, Chris. You are sorely missed. At least you played for your fans before checking out. That's very nice of you. Thank you for getting me through my teenage years. You were an awesome human being and a very phenomenal artist. Rest easy, friend.
My idol is gone, there hasn’t been a day that’s gone by that I haven’t missed him and the potential for future songs and albums, by god I cried when he died, I still cry when I hear certain songs of his because he touched my soul through his music like he did several others, he was by far one of the best singers the world has ever heard or ever will heard
I was fortunate enough to meet Chris about 10 years ago at the music studio I was interning at. He was performing a solo show in Cleveland that night so he came to record a podcast for AP Magazine that was upstairs from the studio. He was very friendly. I shook his hand and told him I love everything he's done. I sat and listened intently as he spoke about his life and the history of grunge/his entire career. It was magical. He was a magical person. Such a goddamn shame we lost him. RIP to one of the greatest voices/artists music has ever known.
Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of alltime. They had great names (and it's rare) with significant and simple meaning (thanks to Chris) and amazing songs that sounded like no one else. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) who is following us on Soundcloud but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : czcams.com/video/YJqmsXd8QH4/video.html&t
Evidently whomever made the video does not, because it credits Chris Cornell of Audioslave at the end. That's a bit like saying "Paul McCartney, of Wings"
crushed every damn day,....didn't he know people would be crushed, ...i don't get it... but then i know what it's like to want to just go away forever. i have a dog, and i think i will wait till she goes, and then it will be time
I was a 90’s teen. My then bf loved this song when it came out. Until today I’ve never bothered to actually listen to the lyrics though I know then by heart. Chris was a talent unmatched. His death was a tragedy. We needed many more years with him. All the greats are taken from us too soon. I hope I get to meet him in Heaven. RIP amazing man.

As someone who's spent the last 6 years actively trying to sing to accompany my guitar playing, I find it hard to wrap my mind around someone being able to sing so well, so easily, and so naturally. Chris Cornell, you should've stuck around, there aren't too many like you.
Saw a few talking about how Chris died or who is responsible.

underrated?? UNDERRATED looool
I remember hearing this song for the first time in the spring of 1994 when I was just turning 25... Would do anything to live that summer over again.... The music, the love, the fun...
Me too and I had just turned 35 that summer.. No internet, no cellphones, less bullshit
Man. I guess you don't really realize how much you like someone till they are gone. I was certainly a fan. I'm a 44 year old white guy. I was not prepared for how bad I feel that he is gone. We lost a voice of a generation. You will be missed R.I.P. C.C.
I like this version even more than the studio one.

This is my favorite way to hear Chris Cornell: singing alone with his acoustic guitar. If you like this, too, I highly recommend his Songbook CD. I saw him on his Songbook tour twice and would've seen him every night of his tour if I could have. I hope he continues to do solo work and solo tours, even when he has Soundgarden things going on. I support all of his music. He is a living legend!

Hahaha! Yeah, I have to agree with you there. He's top-notch!
Love this song 🌔
tears coming...
Beautiful Chris u will be missed..❤
"sometimes the noise gets too loud"
RIP....LUV..

He was talking about suicide
Greatest song i ever heard, and i've heard almost everything at my 60's ..........
The black hole you left in our hearts will never heal, Chris. You are sorely missed. At least you played for your fans before checking out. That's very nice of you. Thank you for getting me through my teenage years. You were an awesome human being and a very phenomenal artist. Rest easy, friend.
When I listen, I feel such an aching sense of loss. Hope you're at peace. Thank you.
No one sings like you anymore....... R.I.P Chris Cornell
Thank you Chris for being there - see you again my friend 🙏🏻
Tragic passing. 😢 Rest In Peace to a rock icon and incredible human being. Had the pleasure of seeing him perform two weeks ago. Damn. 😪
My dad cried when Chris Cornell passed. I put this song on at a pool hall not thinking about that and he shed a tear once again.
the Rock version and the acoustic version is equally beautiful. Thank you for the music Cris 😔🙏🏻
One of the greatest voices to ever be in music. R.I.P Chris
in my eyes, indisposed in disguise as no one knows
hides the face, lies the snake and the sun in my disgrace
Listening to Chris pour out his all with that soulful voice then hearing the video end with that god awful yahoo soundbite lol
His voice... it's one of a kind, once in a lifetime. RIP Chris x
how can anybody hate this mans voice. distinctive and extinct, beautiful, takes me to that place. loved you Chris your art your songs
That guy from Audioslave did a decent job on this Soundgarden song.
You should hear the guy from Temple of the Dog sing it.
+Edmond Brown you know he's the same guy right?
Evidently whomever made the video does not, because it credits Chris Cornell of Audioslave at the end.
That's a bit like saying "Paul McCartney, of Wings"
+Edmond Brown Its probly just cuz he was in Audioslave at the time they recorded this, and Soundgarden wasn't reunited yet.
It's like comparing apples to a pile of shit.
I was fortunate to see him play at Roseland on May 9 1992. 25 years ago....... amazing. He will be missed. RIP.
His death crushed me.
crushed every damn day,....didn't he know people would be crushed, ...i don't get it... but then i know what it's like to want to just go away forever. i have a dog, and i think i will wait till she goes, and then it will be time
you don't know what's on the other side. it's not worth it
This version of this song washes over me like warm river water.
Who is cutting onions? Fuck. Rest in peace. :(
No one will ever be able to match chris's voice so unique...you was and always will be cut above the rest I hope you found peace my friend
I love this version, it so beautiful. No one sings like you anymore 😪😪😪😪😪😪 RIP Chris. You will be missed😪😪😪😪😪😪
Beautiful. Sent chills down my spine
He played a beautfiul song from the Soul goregously. RIP and the Music continues in our hearts. That we are grateful for and thank Chris.
Oh my goodness, Chris voice is amazing and this is a very beautiful and intimate rendition. Be at peace brother Cornell, you are missed...
Artist are always drawn by the life of pain, it’s the only way we can ever deal. Just ask Hemingway. A man like this gave life meaning. A true artist
It's really hard to find any fault in this, so don't even try. Just sit back and enjoy the sweet bliss of what is everything Chris Cornell.
Masterpiece- Please Chris write some songs in heaven and come back
I was a 90’s teen.

This is amazing. Lyrical beauty - melodic trance of his voice.... I sit here sad for the loss of such magnanimous perfection
"No one sings like you anymore" R.I.P. Chris Cornell another legend gone
RIP to one of the grunge gods, Chris Cornell. 🤘🏽 You will be missed dearly.
First time i heard this.. my friend and i just drove back into town, and it stopped raining.. everything was wet.. and the sun was trying to shine though the clouds, ill never forget it
As someone who's spent the last 6 years actively trying to sing to accompany my guitar playing, I find it hard to wrap my mind around someone being able to sing so well, so easily, and so naturally. Chris Cornell, you should've stuck around, there aren't too many like you.
