This song was recorded when Freddie was so sick that he often couldn't stand, he would lean onto the mixing board and sing from there. This video is a mashup of several other videos, kind of in the spirit of the show must go on so you do what you can do to make it happen and also sort of as a recap as the band knew Freddie was running out of time. Freddie would come into the studio and beg his mates for things to sing saying they could do whatever they wanted to with it later. Brian wrote this excellent song, loosely about Freddie, saying that in his head he was envisioning a sad clown who paints on a smile to come out to entertain his audience. Freddie did not complain about his situation, he just kept pressing on, doing those things that he enjoyed until the end. Brian and Roger still perform as Queen+Adam Lambert. They will be touring the US starting in October of this year but I believe the tickets sold out within 2 days. Roger will be 74 this year and Brian 76 so the fact that they are still touring at all says a lot about their commitment to music and their fans. Their shows are more spectacular than ever and Adam does a great job on all the songs, able to perform them in the keys in which they were written. He doesn't try to imitate Freddie or take Freddie's place, he understands that nobody will ever be able to do that, he just is the frontman for the band. John Deacon retired from music a few years after Freddie's death. Thank you for your reaction.

It is an almost impossible task to name my three favourite Queen songs, depending on how I am feeling at any given moment I might be able to name twenty or thirty favourites. Right now, I would recommend A winter's Tale ( this was the last complete song that Freddie recorded weeks before he left us) The Miracle for it's sheer positivity and now I'm stumped for a third - I want it all, Innuendo, White Queen, The March of the Black Queen - any of those and more. Freddie was determined to keep singing until the very end and whilst his body began to show the ravages of his disease, his voice never lost any of its power, and he never succumbed to self pity or anger. I can only hope that if I was ever in the same position as Freddie, I could face my demise with the grace that Freddie showed

👏👏👏 Freddie was very sick at recording this song, but he didn't stop and singing and making music kept him alive a little longer. He gave up the fight against the illness when he couldn't sing anymore, after Mother Love which he left unfinished. Freddie was a musician and performer from top to toe. He received the diagnosis in 87, but he was able to make 4 more albums with this death sentence in his hands.
This song is one of my favourites, keeps me going day by day.

⬆️Typo - performance is LIVE AID, a charity benefit for African Hunger/Starvation organized by Bob Geldoff. Major bands/singers of that time performed in 2 stages: Wembley in England and another in United States. ALL had an absolute time limit of 20 minutes, and it was broadcast globally to I believe a billion people. Queen, mainly Freddie, stole the show. Queen’s performance that day is still regarded as the greatest live rock performance. No specisl effects or lighting for anyone, and Queen outperforms everyone!!

You should check out Queen + Adam Lambert Who Wants to Live Forever Isle of Wight 2014. While Adam isn't Freddie, he does the music justice. There are also some great videos of Queen/Adam performing The Show Must Go On. There are also many wonderful videos of Brian singing Love of My Life as a tribute to Freddie (the one in Rio 2015 is particularly poignant because it was exactly 30 years since Queen had performed at the same festival).

It premiered on MTV within a few days after his death.

I haven’t read many comments so others have probably mentioned that when this was recorded Freddie was pretty much dying. He would come in to the studio when he could and record what he could. They weren’t sure that he’d be able to do this song but apparently he would swig a little vodka and tell Brian “Fuck it, I’ll do it darling” and so he did. They never performed it live with him and there was no video except this compilation of excerpts from previous work. It wasn’t the very last thing he did but it was very near the end. I LOVE this song. Probably my 3 favorite Queen songs, in no real order, are “The Show Must Go On”, “Who Wants To Live Forever” and “Under Pressure” (recorded with David Bowie).

This Queen song recorded while Freddie was battling his symptoms from HIV/AIDS, “The Show Must Go On” is a compellingly powerful final coda to Freddie’s legacy. The song closes Queen’s final studio album released during Freddie’s lifetime.
While “The Show Must Go On” was mainly written by lead guitarist Brian May, the song’s theme is driven by the probability it would be Freddie's “finale”. His severe symptoms made recording Innuendo difficult.
Freddie’s struggles with HIV/AIDS were kept secret from the public at large until his official 1991, November 23rd, press release divulging that he was, in fact, dying from AIDS-related complications.
Previously the British paparazzi had speculated, cruelly, and reported, that Freddie was diagnosed with the disease and proceeded to stalk him, making his life even more miserable.
Intentionally or not, Freddie’s announcing his illness on November 23rd was prescient:
Approximately 24 hours after the press release, Freddie Mercury died.
The “Innuendo” recording sessions were completed by November 1990; the album was released in February 1991. After those sessions, Freddie continued to record studio vocals as much as his health would allow. He loved his work; or rather, he passionately loved making music, and had always tried to keep his personal life private.
During these last recording sessions sometimes Freddie was so ill he could barely walk, making the recording process erratic, emotionally wrought, and logistically difficult for the band, especially for guitarist Brian May, a studio perfectionist.
Brian told a feeble Freddie not to over-exert himself during a session for the final track’s vocals, intimating he wasn’t up to the challenge. According to Queen lore, a frustrated Freddie responded by slamming a shot, or two, of vodka, saying, “I’ll fucking do it, darling”. May recalled Mercury’s performance:
He went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal"
And the show has very much gone on …
After Freddie passed away, Queen's bass guitarist. John Deacon (who was extremely close to Freddie) retired from music but Brian May (Lead Guitarist) and Roger Taylor (Drummer) still perform as Queen. They performed with Paul Rodgers singing the lead vocals from 2004 to 2009.
Since 2009, Adam Lambert has sung the lead vocal with the remaining members of Queen. They will be touring the US in October 2023.

Hey I’ve literally just discovered your reaction videos and I love watching you discover these songs for the first time, I get a little jealous I wish I could go back to all my favourites to experience the first initial falling in love and goosebumps. I’m not sure if you have ever explained before I haven’t got through all the vids yet, but I am so interested in the reason behind why you haven’t heard or seen any of these songs and artists before? If it’s private then please excuse my intrusion. Maybe I just was brought up with all genres of music and it was a huge part of my family’s life and that’s perhaps why I’m lucky to have a wide variety of love and knowledge of all different kinds of music. If it is ok with you, could you give me a little insight into how you didn’t get to see some of the classics such as queen, Abba, and Whitney Houston until now? Maybe I’m assuming but I genuinely thought everyone had heard or seen these over the years? I’m from Scotland to give you a little info about where I grew up. Not sure if it makes a difference. Thanks. Alana
