We take a closer look at the upcoming historical retrospective "The Making of Original D&D: 1970-1977."
The book will be available on June 18th, 2024, but we received our copy courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (although we have not received any other compensation, either financially or otherwise for this review).

While interesting to see the notes/letters $100 is very steep. As for the rest there are many good books on the history origins with plenty of detail that can be had for $10 or free at the library and if you want a copy of 1st edition DnD you can find it on the internet. I’m really trying to figure out why this isn’t $30 or $40

Yeah, it's a hefty price tag alright. I do think it packs a ton of content (and the layout and quality are top notch), but unless you're a hardcore fan you can definitely do without.

Will not touch it with a 10 ft pole due to WOTC.

Fair enough. A lot of people still have a lot of resentment towards WotC (which is definitely understandable after what happened with the OGL).

@@DnD_Fanatics The OGL is a minor part, the bigger issue is their treatment/disrespect of the originators/creators of the game, original materials and people in the hobby.
