I Kelly, as a former middle school teacher and counselor, I would recommend that you get Allie in counseling for her social anxiety. Those professionals can really help her. I continue to pray for Ray, the girls and you. You are a tower of strength in my eyes. It’s ok to break down and cry your eyes out. It doesn’t mean you are weak in any respect. It’s good to let it go. You will all make it through this. ❤️🙏
IMHO, I don’t think social anxiety started as the problem. She is a good kid with good social skills, and is being preyed upon by kids with social problems. She is literally being attacked!
If she now has anxiety, it’s the result of trauma from being bullied. The only way that Allie can be okay is first for the bullying to stop. Then counseling if necessary may help her.
@@micheleparker8553 true but as someone who was the youngest of my family and more use to being around family it is an adjustment to deal with social inept people. Even now it blows my mind that people are so cruel to another person. I have my coping mechanisms and sense of humor to get me through. I had to learn those because we didn’t have counseling in the 80s. If that is the way she wants to go then encourage her if not be there for her.
A parent's job is to help their child cope with whatever upsets their child's world, especially when you can't stop the bullying.
@@MKCarol-ms7lg yes. A parents job is also to their child how to cope and understand the “why” mentality. I know it sounds like a parent must have a psychology degree. They don’t! At first I just used my instincts and experiences of my own. After receiving my Associates of Applied Science degree in which I took three classes of psychology it only touched a bit of what children go through with their peers. How Allie gets through this process and changes depends on her. Each child is different. The most important information she must know is she can talk to her mom and Kelly will listen. Allie may talk and figure out a solution for the present situation.
The hardest experience is learning that there are friends you can keep close but most you have to keep at a distance. Even we as adults know that.
First of all I would like to apologize to Kelly…I did not intend for this to turn into a controversial issue. I was merely offering a suggestion to help Allie because the family has been through so much already. Bullies don’t give up and it’s the nice kids with the best of social skills that they prey on. Again I’m sorry my comment detracted from Kelly’s emotions, feelings, etc. That was not my intention at all. So please forgive me Kelly. I always wish you and your family the best. Kelly, as a Mom myself who lived this same nightmare, my heart is with you. My son was diagnosed at almost the same age, 29. I remember writing when I heard about Ray that you will dig deeper than you ever thought you could, and that's what you're doing. The feelings you described here resonated in my gut...spot on. I specifically remember looking at my bed as I left in the morning and sometimes the only comfort I got was knowing I could get back in that bed at the end of the day. You will get through this regardless of the ups and downs...sometimes you'll wish you wouldn't get through it, when insanity seems easier! You will though, one breath at a time, one foot in front of the other. The sun will come back and you'll be there to see it. My prayers are with Ray, you, and your family.

Hi Kelly - I would like to offer you another way to look at the days you don't feel strong. Those are your recharge days. You need them to keep you strong. My life partner passed on Aug. 25 th from small cell carcinoma and Merkel cancer. You are correct in your feelings, and that roller coaster gets very tiring. Watching my guy quickly deteriorate and in pain was very hard to see! I’m still in a daze, I’m still not able to cry…..my motivation is gone. We pulled out of school in 1999. My children are strong, kind, educated individuals. They’re all college educated and one is powering through a male dominated career and a young female. My kids all have college educations and some have several. They’ve never suffered socially. Maybe we need more kind people like Ally to show the world you don’t have to be so thick skinned. Your youngest is going through something major too. I do also have daughter with a terminal disease with no cure. Her siblings having the love, joy and support for her has made a huge difference. Ally’s akin will be thick in the right place. Public school in California is for no one.
Ally should not have to have a thick skin, the adults at her school need to step up and keep the children protected. We can certainly understand that you just want this all to be over with.
Maybe the best thing is the security of home with carefully selected social activities (when life stabilizes and it will).
@@linda48123 that’s exactly what we did. They went to science camps, cooking camps, foreign languages class, field trips etc. It did. To hinder their ability in anyway to get into a university. We also live in a state know for great and numerous universities. School is not like it was 45-50 years ago.

Mine too. My daughter was homeschooled from k-12 and she does not have any issues socializing or defending herself. I think it has more to do with how each child handles things and that’s ok because we all handle things differently

I think sometimes, as a parent, we feel our children’s pain more than they do. I literally have felt sick to my stomach watching my child struggle through life. It’s ok to fall apart. You’re a mom. It comes with all the pleasure and pain that encompasses. Kelly, even the strong crumble when they’re alone.
Kids are just so mean anymore. We pulled my Granddaughter out of school because of all the bullies. We home schooled for awhile but she also missed the in person interaction. We found her another school and she is liking it a lot so far!
We had to do the same thing! Bullying! We found another school and so far everything is good!
Cry when you need to. Scream if you want to. Do whatever you can to get by. Your friends will listen and we will continue to pray. This has been a long journey for everyone. People get upset and exhausted it comes with this ordeal. Just do whatever you need to. We will still be here when this is over. It will be over. God Bless all of you. I hope Ray understands how many of us are praying and sending well wishes. We got the Barlow family covered!

Everyone has a breaking point in very stressful long-term situation. I have had 3 very horrible seeming never-ending surgeries for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. Total 14 surgeries. I'm now going thru testing for stomach cancer so your videos have been such a help. Yes you ARE strong and an amazing person. You are so loved, friend.

I know that you don't feel strong right now, but you are stronger than you are giving yourself credit for. I have been where Ray is, but mine was stage 4 kidney cancer. And I have been the mom trying to keep her family afloat through the cancer battle. Just continue to put one foot in front of the other and take it day by day. You will get through this dark tunnel! Words cannot express how much I connect to this video with what I have been going through my daughter. From one mom to another in a tough situation, you hang in there girl! Yes you are tough. Don't think for one moment that because you need help getting out of bed, help going on from moment to the next, help with just breathing or because you cry, that you are not strong. I always look forward to your updates and I'm always glad to hear about you all doing well. Having come from a divided family I always wait to hear that Ray's dad is being active in his recovery and I'm always disappointed to not hear that. I pray that he is there to support him. I'll pray that Allie gets what she needs to survive the cruel journey of middle/high school. I had a struggle with that as well so I can relate. Prayers for you all.

I have followed your channel for some time and with what your facing right now, I was hesitant to keep watching your journey because of my own loss with losing my mom and husband to Cancer and unexpectedly losing my dad and never really grieving my loss. It’s painful & hurts, BUT I pushed through and felt I needed to continue and hear your story no matter my own loss because I care and I will continue to watch for POSITIVE outcomes. You WILL get through this, Kelly. I know there are moments when you are getting through it one second at a time, but you are doing it! There is more hope now then there was a year ago. You’ve had the weight of the world on your shoulders for a long time now. During this time you have proven to Ray that he can count on you and that he will never go through this alone. You have been a fine example to your girls in what real unconditional love looks like. I’m praying that you and your family experience more good days then bad as you all journey through this time.

My daughter had a rough time in middle school. Several bully boys ganged up on her and assaulted her , and it made things really hard. The school was not helpful. But she got through high school and undergraduate school so much stronger. And then graduate school was amazing. She has a great job and a wonderful fiancé, and is happy. I truly think Ally and Kayla will be okay. And I know that you are amazing...you are so strong, even if you don't see it. Prayers for all of you, and especially for Ray.

Oh Kelly, my heart just breaks for you. You have been through so much and that "dam burst" you had is totally understandable. I hope you have someone you can talk to. Whether it be a professional, clergy, or just a really good girlfriend. Your crafting and your videos are one way of occupying your thoughts, but maybe to have someone to talk to about your feelings would, also. You have had a ton of weight sitting on you. Being a single mom and having gone through really tough things with my kids, I can relate to your feeling exhausted by the difficulties as they come. Ally is feeling the same way, so having to deal with unkind people on top of her other battles can be so hard. I'm praying for you and your family, Kelly. You will all get through it and be stronger, as you yourself know. This too shall pass. It does finally get better.
I've said this to you (years ago) I wish I was your neighbor. I would come sit with you and let you unload to me, while we drank lots of coffee and I would watch you make really fun DIYs. You would be such a fun neighbor. A big hug to you and your children and lots of prayer that the Lord will give you what you need when you need it until you come out on the other side.
