    Kirby, as a 22 year old I have to say that you are an inspiration for me, and a joy to watch the videos. Most of my family are big believers of the classic gentlemen style, mainly a cousin of mine and with all that I have been a big fan of your youtube channel and all its content. Thanks for everything and cant wait to see more of this series. Love from Portugal

    Wow, what a video. I have had always interest in tweed, but didn’t know the reason. But the variance in the colors and the tradition and history that is going way back in the history now I can understand why tweed still remains to be one of the most loved fabric even today. And what a luck that it holds. Long live the tweed!

  • @TheTerryE
    @TheTerryE Před 2 lety +6

    Enjoyed the first episode although I would say that unless you are going to a "shooting house party" you really won't wear a full 3 piece suit to shoot in. No one really does that anymore especially if you are going to a "commercial" shoot. The breakfasts and lunches are rarely "formal." You definitely need "wellies" for your boots. Everyone wears them now. You definitely need "shooting socks" and garters. You definitely need a "shooting coat" for outerwear especially as the weather in Scotland can get very wet. I've been shooting grouse for over 30 years, it's a great sport.

    • @guy1234484
      @guy1234484 Před 2 lety +2

      Bear in mind though that this is a programme about tailoring, not shooting, and aimed at an audience ignorant of what really goes on at a shoot. Take away the narrative of the mandatory requirement for a five piece suit and that rather destroys the whole story arch. Most of us who shoot know that for the most part it’s a case of tweed cap and breeks, with a pair of Le Chams, a Schöffel gilet, and some form of technical coat and that’s what we’re wearing instead of the tweed suit.
      Since I twisted my ankle I’ve abandoned wellies and gone back to the more traditional approach of boots and gaiters over the shooting socks and I must say that, unless you’re having to go through deep streams or put up with some sort of bog, it’s actually a superior system.

    Such a great episode. Thanks so much to Simon for traveling to Scotland and for Kirby's team to shoot it. Amazing what those different colors can produce in the way of texture and weave. My brain definitely does not go in that direction.
    I was wondering what the rules, if any, apply to having a jacket buttoned or unbuttoned. Simon has his unbuttoned and both Alan and Stephan have theirs buttoned (and dare I say the buttons look like they are straining /pulling a bit). Also, I've noticed that Kirby keeps putting his, mostly left hand in his pants pocket. I've rarely, if ever, seen any of the men his speaks with doing that. In America I see men unbutton their jacket when sitting down and buttoning them when they stand.
