Watching the Blue Angels train at NAF El Centro end of runway was an exerience I will never forget. Seeing four Super Hornets flying straight at you! the power from the afterburners was just WOW!!
With the NAF El Centro Festival Of Flight this weekend I traveled to El Centro a few weeks ago to watch the Blue Angels train ahead of their 2022 airshow's season. As the winter home of the Blue Angels, the Naval Air Facility El Centro Festival of Flight is the first event of their season, every year. The Festival of Flight is one of the largest single-day events in the Imperial Valley.
Spent a week in California with a couple of Days searching for some low level flying up near Star wars canyon and then headed South for four Days to watch winter training of the Blue Angels. A great Holiday and much needed after Covid!!

@@ElwynR A trip worth taking. Lol. Did you get any footage of 5 and 6 departing in your direction, or did they mainly head the opposite way? 6 is the most exciting departure to me. Straight out, and pulling hard G’s. 😂

Yea the precision is crazy
Amazing how the fourth aircraft yaws rather than banks into position.
It’s the safest way to get in formation. Any type of bank or roll type of movement is a massive risk. 2 and 3 use rudder constantly. You just don’t notice it because they’re so proficient with their movements.
4's moving through very turbulent air getting into the slot, you want your wings to stay level and under control when moving through that air, you already see how much fighting he has to do sometimes just with the yaw.
He's essentially being pushed around and backwards from the exhaust of the other 3 aircraft. If you watch closely He's actually going a little bit faster than the other 3 in order to catch up and stay in formation and then he has to be able to stay in the formation with actually passing them. I would assume during the takeoff roll he has the most pressure on him in order to be able to pull the maneuver off while not only being still realotivlely low to the ground but to not crash into the other 3 jets or as I stated pass them altogether? I saw them last year in London Ontario they took off in the same fashion as the video and the number 4 jet had to use his afterburners twice during the climb out in order to stay in the formation. I'm also sure every show they attend is different too with wind and weather conditions some shows are better than others I guess you can say?
It’s official the slot pilot has the “funnest” job on the planet. Full left rudder then full right rudder less than 50 feet off the deck! The more yaw the better!!

The FA18 is on the tame side of exhaust notes. But nothing beats the Blues in formation. And that take off POV with #4 correcting into position actually is pretty spectacular. In most airshows, the crowd doesn't get that perspective. But winter training at NAF El Centro gives a very cool perspective!
I agree! It is extremely rare for an airshow audience to see that point of view. It's mostly left to right, or maybe even an angle, and everything else is overhead. Great footage
@@FirstLast-gv1zl We used to have a static air show in Los Angeles at a commuter airport in the San Fernando Valley - right in the middle of the city. So no air demonstrations - except maybe a fast rope demo and a Harrier. So on the day the planes left (early Monday morning), people would show up on a major street very close to the end of the runway. All the pilots would put on a show at take off, circle, then do a fly over. The planes were very close, afterburner, tandem take offs, right over our heads; you felt the jet wash. It was a tremendous thrill.
Anybody else notice the inconsistent smoke coming from a couple of the jets? It comes on and off at different times and not like the other jets. Just my debrief item, happy to be here!

I've been there att El Centro Naval Air Station. . They would set up a carrier meatball and you could get right up to the threshold. 1984 thru 1987 when was there. What a rush. A6. F8.

@@stanstenson8168 I was at the Naval Air Facility El Centro for the show last week. The traffic and the crowd was actually a nightmare.
Next year I'll try your location to take pictures of the Blue Angels in a different composition and hopefully I could avoid the miserable traffic.
@@desmondh.6796 I think it will suck there too (traffic). But at least there is more than one road. I don't know how close you live, but I'd bet this was all taken during practice in the weeks prior to the airshow. You might want to try then, like the week before. In January they are out in the desert a lot. The closer to the airshow, the more they practice at the field.
