- The Stanley Siegel Show was a NYC staple in the 1970s. A morning show that had a host who was irreverent and unpredictable, his guests were anyone who was anyone in New York City in the 1970s. This interview with Truman Capote has been debated and discussed many, many times. We've assembled a few highlights of that interview. Its funny and depressing at the same time, perhaps that's the best summary of Truman's personal life.
Who is here after watching episode 7 of Feud: Capote vs The Swans?
not me (laughs in Truman)
LOL @@LilyWhite-vo1bh
Me!
How long is this interview after Babe died?
Me!
I was in the studio for this interview. I worked on the show as an intern production assistant. What a wasted talent.
no, it's great!
I liked Stanley Siegal. Did you have any contact with him? If yes,was he a nice person?
Does the entire interview exist? This shows only a couple of random clips from it.
Was there any attempt to talk him out of the interview? I found it a cruel exploitation.
you invited truman capote to a morning show, you get what you get
They recreated this scene PERFECTLY on Foxes "Feud."
That’s what brought me here 😂😂😂
@jasmynelyons3610 that's a cool thing😊😉
yup, because Truman plays himself
Reportedly he was taking prescribed meds which were just "kicking in" when he went on for this interview.
Feud is not a Fox production. It was produced by the FX Network, which is a Disney owned company.
Tom Hollander is genius
He deserves an Emmy for this portrayal!
Took me till episode 3 to figure out it was him. He deserves an Emmy for his portrayal.
He’s amazing
Lifetime performance.
That jerk knew that Capote was wasted and unfit to go on tv but he put him on anyway.
it's fine
It's not up to the interviewer it's the producers behind it who call the shots and like most up coming shows they announce it to the audience at least a week before
@stardaddyo9 I agree with you. They exploited a sick man
Did it for ratings, probably. Reminds me of "Network" in that sense. Reason why I left the industry.
The show must go on
I came here to see how accurate of a job The Feud did in comparison and Ryan Murphy, cast, and company did not disappointment.
Tom Hollander and Philip Seymour Hoffman did a great job protraying Capote.
Hollander slayed it!
I think Toby Jones was the best.
@@carter358 really? I haven't seen that movie but I can see him protraying Capote. Your referring to Infamous correct?
1977-1978 I used to watch his show in the morning religiously. This particular interview was absolutely horrifying.
Same here. I couldn't understand at the time how anyone could allow him to go on air.
Even though he is off his face he still answered all the questions quite well. Especially at x2 speed 😅
I find his personality so addictive. If I really wanted i could recreate it to a degree. Its so easy to relate to as an outsider
Why didn't someone stop him before he went on? He's clearly drunk as shit😮. This was sad. I just watched this scene on "Feud." They pretty much nailed it. Sad.
No longer had any true friends that would have his best interest.
He soiunds totally sober in 1.5 speed.
Just finished in cold blood, a master of his art.
He’s higher than a kite !
*Drunk you mean
For sure was both! @@ackeemharriott7279
God the shocking spectacle of someone addicted to barbiturates and alcohol. He ruined himself. It seems he knew he had burned all his bridges. So sad when he plainly answers “I’ll kill myself without meaning to”
This was towards the end
He is showing signs of liver cirrhosis. His ammonia level is probably high, his skin color is yellowish. He’s having trouble speaking. Looks sluggish and tired. It’s horrible seeing anyone in this condition. The liver can take a beating until finally it stops working all together.
And you can see the roundness of his abdomen showing fluid retention from liver failure.
Very sad, a talent wasted!
Two originals, two pioneers. Magic.
Damn. I'm having an opioid crisis just watching this.
Thank you, for sharing this, Mr. Siegel. I would be so grateful for an opportunity to see this full episode. All the best to you!
Stanley passed away a few years ago. His family manages the archive. We try to post clips whenever its possible. Thanks for the kind words.
@@richardpropper7011Thank you, for kindly bringing up to events from 2016/lol, I am a bit embarrassed! You know, I saw that banner photo, about new episodes dropping every Tuesday, and just made all kinds of assumptions. Thanks, also, to the Siegel family for sharing this; it’s absolutely riveting to see the original interview.
I remember watching this interview. It. Was. Appalling. Truman was very much down in his cups. And he was slowly fading away. It was sad and tragic to watch.
What a great interviewer. I wish this show was still on.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was perfect as Capote imo
Please post more celebrity interviews from your archive.
Ummm...I LOVE his sweater.
wear a condom before wearing it
Capote said in a 1979 interview with David Suskind he had a delayed reaction to Tuinal (sleeping pill) given by his dentist earlier in the day.
Yes, half the country was taking pills in 1979. Not that uncommon, sorry republicans.
Why would a dentist prescribe Tuinal anyway. I call BS.
Truman Capote is a complete genius
Such a tragic loss of a truly fine mind. Capote was so gifted. Some of his work is so delicate it can break your heart {A Christmas Memory") and some is so gruesome it can haunt your dreams ("In Cold Blood"). And he created one of the most beloved literary characters, Holly Golightly, in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Truman was damaged and his decline was so sad. Sad too that there was no one to protect him from horrible, exploitative interviews like this one. He deserved better than to be exhibited on TV as he disintegrated in front of an audience.
like he said "he never cared what people thought" rip
Very sad
More like the opposite!
He's boiled as an owl. If you struck a match he would explode.
I'm stealing those expressions.
@steviebaby59…that’s so fk’d up it’s hilarious
@@irishron4861 If you ever watch The Andy Griffith Show that's what someone said about Otis the town drunk. That's where I got "boiled as an owl". 🤣
Bro I'm also gonna steal these expressions
Actual raw interviews like this no longer exist. Truman Capote had more talent than anyone I have personally taken in in the last decade. I’ve got a point but I’m not good with words.
I believe Joanna Carson said when he lived with her his last few months he was sober.
This is really sad. I've seen him interviewed a lot, but never like this.
not sad, funny and cool.
@@LilyWhite-vo1bh Yeah, real cool and funny. Do you like watching automobile accidents too?
@@ratt57 You thought of the correlation.
Capote's greatest power was keeping his feelings secret.
He's drunk and high as a kite 😂I find it funny and sad at the same time. Theyll never air something like this today of a celebrity I don't think ❤
No... Steve -o on Adam Corolla was the last time they did that
I remember Farrah Fawcett high on David Lettermen in 1997 😢
Anna Nicole Smith.
@@mE-zx7pt what clip?
@@songsthatarecatchyshe’s announcing Kanye west at an awards show
Had to see this interview after E7 of the Feud and while it’s true to form in its reenactment, it’s just sad to see a person die slowly in front of your very eyes. Under no circumstances should this have been allowed to happen given how shitfaced he is. This was pure exploitation and almost a sense of entertainment at this poor man’s expense. I blame Siegel as much as Capote for this disaster
Truman is not just drunk here. He’s balls into benzos and then alcohol. I’m not routing for it… BUT, he’s taking it like a champ despite how obviously jacked up he is here. I spent 16 years in the same boat so I have leeway to talk. Sadly he didn’t make it.
Loved him in the movie murder by death..
Oh wow. Did he smell like alcohol or was this pills....or both? What year was this?
Rewind it and pause it on a still of Truman. If you scratch your screen and then sniff it, maybe you can tell us what he smelled like.
@@invisible.fatman Don't do comedy for a living.
We are in 2106 is all I know (laughs in Truman)
Wow Philip Seymour Hoffman is good…
He looks jaundiced.
yes doctor
Your point was what, exactly? The man had a severe drinking problem, known to affect the liver. @@LilyWhite-vo1bh
Didn't even realize until I read this comment. Goodness😣
he does!
Drugs and alcohol 😢
Abuse. Moreover, abuse for simple profit. Shame on them.
Abuse? Did you watch the clip? Stanley's checking in with him to see if he's ok to continue. Truman is laughing and joking, even while slurring his words. Shame on you for not paying attention.
He apparently has taken some sort of drugs before his appearance on the show.
I'm just so not stunned how the devil himself exploits people...but Truman was messy and he got his karma too
He looks jaundiced, very sad
@AriesEnergi
My LAMB!!!
Briliant writer, self destructive character.
He is totally wasted!
Who destroyed himself at the hero In Cold Blood he fell in love look one of the men that was hanged Rip Truman
Put the speed at 2X ~ thank me later
🤯
That's incredible.
Amazing. He actually sounds pretty good now.
Very sad
