    What do you think? Is this the ultimate landscape photography location in the UK? I'm also going to do a follow up video where I'll print some of the images featured in this video. Which one do you want me to print?

    The Outer Hebrides, that is a place that fascinates me. You show me what I could realistically expect. I loved the sand dunes with the grass, magical. You arial footage of the tidal marsh was special to me, places like that are special. An image of that would be great to create and keep. Thanks for sharing a dream.

    Finally managed to tick Harris and Lewis off my bucket list in June, it was every bit as good as I expected. Loved the water texture in your first 'arch' photo, it is a pity you changed your exposure from 1 sec to 2 secs on your second image, would have loved to have seen a one second exposure on it. To have capture so many 'top drawer' images on a one week trip is amazing, you must be well pleased!

      @@jbairdexp Hello Julian, the Scottish Devolved Government set up a scheme where persons could travel with the Cal-Mac Ferries - book all accommodation and ferries, more ferries you do the cheaper it became. Cal - Mac did everything, it was arranged that the prices would be comparable road driving. Worth making enquiries. We also went to Berneray. Anyway, something you may consider looking into. Regards, Allan Davies.

    Visted all these places last year with my 11 year old Olympus E510 which was not cutting the mustard mainly when it came to capturing those beautiful wide beaches. I got myself a Nikon Z6 with the 24-70mm F4 and now have the 14-30mm to catch the wide stuff. Really looking forward to the next visit hopefully later this year. The new 70-200mm F2.8 is going to have to wait.

I could’ve possibly choose a favourite shot but I did particularly enjoy the soft pastel tones of some of the blue/green water beach shots. Beautifully filmed Julian. It was my booking a trip to Harris last year that made me start some videos and I still look back at them occasionally for inspiration.. Love some of the aerial shots (Northton etc), and a great cross section of images. I think it's No 1 location for me based on the logic "If I could only visit one UK location where would I go?' . ..I did Skye on the way home and that's a pretty damn good combo !! Very professionally edited vlog I might add as well.

    Great video Julian, well worth the wait, I have been to the islands a few times with work but sadly never with my camera (until next time!) and its stunning but interestingly further north than you think, looking west from west side of Lewis you are around the same latitudes as Newfoundland in Canada, well north of the USA. We have some great spots in the US but they are geographically so far apart, it is more difficult to get there. Wonderful shots Julian. I have really come to appreciate grasses in foreground. James Burns recently posted some shots with grasses that were great as well. It seems that wind would be difficult on the coast with the grasses. Did you just try waiting for it to taper off a bit or just increase shutter speed to freeze them? It appeared cold there so I assume the grasses maintain that gold-green color through winter?

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Před 5 lety

      Thanks Philip. In most of those shots, the grasses aren't actually frozen. I actually wanted to capture a bit of movement in the grasses so didn't attempt to shorten the exposure time. You can see all the images and all the settings on the blog on my website so you can see in a bit more detail. Not sure if the grasses maintain their colours all year around. Great people at Fotospeed. I've only done limited testing with the matt papers. I'm still working my way through the test packs trying to work out what I want to print to in higher qualities. It's my understanding that most of the papers work with landscape images...but different images will suit different paper types. There doesn't appear to be a hard and fast rule. :-)

    At which moment do you actually take the shot with the Arch? The Moment the Water is at it's highest level or the Moment the water waves are withdrawing? Very nice vlog by the way.

    • @jbairdexp
      @jbairdexp  Před 3 lety

      Hey Eef, thanks for watching. For the longer exposure photographs it doesn't matter to much. Generally speaking though I'll fire the shutter just before the waves hit. This way I'll capture some of the water running back off the rocks. For the shorter exposures it depends. Most of the time it's when the water hits the rocks. That way you can still capture the water running off the rocks. If the weather had been more stormy though, for the shorter exposures I would have taken the exposure just before the water hits the rocks so I can capture the impact. Hope that helps...basically it all depends on the look you want to get, the exposure, and the movement of the water. Sometimes I'll take a number of different shots with the shutter opened at different times and then pick what I like when I get back. :-)
