Doesn't look like he showed them much of anything. He got 41 in a LOSS and all those guys that you named won multiple rings smh if Nick had the heart of a champion instead of "1,2,3 cancun" his legacy would be different because he could ball

Baron Davis emulated Van Exel's game. They're both great point guards.

He was traded because he was the unspoken leader of the team. When they lost to the jazz he said 123 Cancun. So then they ask him to come off the bench etc. Lakers haven’t had a great og that distributes the ball since. Yes they won but we would have won more. He didn’t bow down to Shaq and talked shit to the coach. They fired him the next year, IMO should have kept Nick and fired him a year early!!!

Well Van Exel was already coming off the bench for the second half of the 98 season after being named a 98 WC all star... then Jones was traded early 1999. The writing was on the wall, the Lakers were trying to rotate some guys from the mid 90s with guys from the late 90s who were younger and cheaper to keep Shaq and Kobe satisfied with payroll. LA was forecasting future storms and prepared by cutting weight off the shipments... I agree tho, I like the trade of Eddie Jones for Glen Rice for spacing reasons and the development of Kobe and the need to give Kobe his space and minutes at 2 guard without the pressure of Eddie also being there. I say this now, but at the time I really felt the trade negatively bcuz I enjoyed Eddie Jones alot in the late 90s.. but the Van Exel trade I really didn't get cuz I never thought much of Fisher at anytime. He was a perfect nobody tho to keep around Kobe and Shaq cuz he wasn't threatening anybodys rank with his presence. Selfish Superstars need willing Lil bitch servants

@Alecsander Hamilton the problem with that long ass paragraph you wrote was that as good as Van Exel was, he just wasn't a winning player. He played on some really good Maverick teams and didn't do shit to help them win so apparently he wasn't the superstar u thought he was

They never should have got Shaq, he was maybe the most boring player ever to watch. Absolutely no basketball skill whatsoever, he's just big and tall. Then you had Hack-a-Shaq cause the guy couldn't even make a free throw, decent strategy but so boring to watch. Combined with Kobe, a guy who never passed the ball cause he was trying to be exactly like Jordan. Kobe had no originality or personality whatsoever, he was just a clone of Jordan, to the point where they brought in Phil Jackson and ran the damn triangle offense.

Those Kobe rookie airballs against the Jazz in the West Finals really shouldn’t have ever happened. Del Harris should have given that ball to Nick so he could run the offense. Stockton couldn’t guard him especially that game

They won three, then Kobe got Shaq traded. When he looked around, EJ, NVE, Ceballos, Divac and Campbell and all other talent was all gone. Because they had gotten rid of them all. So Kobe was left to waste his prime alongside the likes of Chris Mihm, Smush Parker and Kwame frickin’ Brown. If they hadn’t traded for Gasol, there wouldn’t have been a fourth or fifth title. Meanwhile, the Lakers haven’t had an upper tier point guard since they traded away NVE. I’m sure they’ll find a way to screw up DR. They did before. As far as that position, they are cursed. And it’s all their fault. THAT’S my point. What’s your point?
