Can you still use Windows 7 on a modern PC in 2023? Today in this video I’ll try to find out is it worth to use Windows 7 in 2023 on a modern hardware. Windows 7 extended support ended on January 14, 2020, but there is a way to update Windows 7 until 2024. It means we can use it today. Will modern games run properly on it? Let’s find out.

my desktop pc has it :)

I have windows 11
Yes I am
It´s sad, that Windows 7 is getting outdated. I used it a lot as a child.
What now linux
Yea its so sad but virtual machine exists ❤❤
@@Voidoizherewhy use a virtual machine when you can just own a real windows 7 pc.
i used windows 7 too! in fact, i still have that computer and i use it every now and then, just for a little throwback.
It's sad that Windows 98 is outdated. I used it a lot as a child. 😢😢😢
I miss Windows 7.
Probably one of the greatest Computer Operator's in Windows History.
The truth is that it's getting outdated. Yet still one of the best.
use it everyday forever - neve change!
@@raginald7mars408 I use it in a Dell D630 and it literally works like a charm! I can navigate the web, use modern programs I need for school like Packet tracer without any issues and extremly smoothly.
I am using windows 11 but it is extremly slow because of windows defender scanning too often...
@@raginald7mars408very good job
Windows XP and Windows 7 will never die!
1. The reason you got the “missing media driver” message was not because it couldn’t recognize the drives, but it was rather because it could not read off the USB after booting off of it. The system can boot off the USB, but after that, it needs to read it in order to deploy the OS, but it can’t, because it doesn’t have the necessary drivers to read off of it. If you installed it using a cd/dvd or installing it onto the correct drive by plugging the drive into a compatible PC and doing it that way and then plugging the drive into yours, then you probably wouldn’t get that error message.
It’s not because you’re lacking Intel RST drivers or NVMe, unless you’re using RST which is very unlikely or if you have ONLY am NVMe.
I’m not sure why it worked once you integrated them, but once I integrated unnecessary drivers for already supported devices while installing 8.1, and it somehow worked.
2. The reason the nVidia drivers couldn’t install properly is because the Win7 wHQL servers are down since January, so it can’t connect to them to determine whether or not drivers are valid and authentic, so no driver signatures will work and they will be detected as illegitimate. To solve this issue, you have to use DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely uninstall the current display drivers and then disable Driver Signing and disable integrity checks via CMD while restarting and then get the official SHA-2 hotfixes from Microsoft and lastly, install the drivers as admin. nVidia has addressed this issue here: nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5445/~/changes-to-the-display-driver-installation-process-under-microsoft-windows-7
3. The reason Fortnite did not work on Win7, is because this March(very recently) Fortnite dropped support for Windows 7 and 8.x.
4. I’m not sure why the games kept freezing and crashing, but you’re probably correct that it has to do with outdated nVidia drivers.
Nonetheless, this was a great video.
o0 thanks
@@RamtechENG Stop wrong!
@@RamtechENG You’re welcome. Thanks for uploading this.
Windows 7 is not outdated too much if everything is patched for current suitation,I think Ramtech could do a revision multiple years later.
If using XP,that would be a total different story just like the video you uploaded 10 months ago.I'm using POSReady 2009 as daily XP OS with everything patched through WIndows Update and WSUS Server. Most softwares stop supporting XP around 2014~2017 and some of them(Adobe Creative Suite) stop supporting XP before reaching the EOL date due to XPx86 was too common at that time.
@@linglin92 Agreed.
Windows 7 was my OS of choice that I stuck with pretty much since it came out until Microsoft decided to cut support to it. 10 is fine but it doesn't come close to capturing the magic of win7 and all the bloatware is very offputting
debloat windows 10!
5:16 SDI origin (snappy driver installer) is really good at installing drivers for old OS's and or obscure hardware, it'll be very useful for this series and just other troubleshooting
Been running windows 7 on a 3700X build I did back in 2020, had to hack in an NVME driver for the M.2 slot, it works alright. It allows me to run a simple smb file sharing network I can access anywhere on any device in my house, they took that away or made it difficult in Win 10/11. Thinking of upgrading it to Win 10 when I swap on either a 5800X3D or 5900X, but I use my 5700U laptop for almost everything lately.
I used Win7 on Z390UD until last year. Worked great. I slipstreamed SATA/NVMe from Gigabyte and USB drivers from Chinese site.
I have managed to install it on my Lenovo 100e 2nd gen which originally ran windows 10 pro, I will never regret going to windows 7.
rocking win7 here since 2009. it's fine really since win7 is the basis for all post-windows os so the only reason something may be incompatible is if ms or the devs make it so. and even if they do, many "win 10+ only" games will run no problem just by replacing a .dll
the main problem really is lack of keyboard and mouse drivers
Wdym? Do keyboard and mice not just plug and play like they do on Windows 10? For a couple weeks during COVID I switched back to Windows 7 and my keyboard and mouse worked fine (though I wasn't USB patched so had to use a PS/2 keyboard during setup).
Thanks for this video. You can also move existing Win7 to modern CPU/MB using Acronis backup/restore.
Windows 7 was great! Though as the years go by, it is slowly starting to show its age. I still have a Windows 7 back-up drive.
It's only showing it's age due to lack of support though
still have my original windows 7 pro disc and product key , putting together an old computer system
to run it on ; win 7 pro was the most user friendly system MS had IMO
so what does MS do - they kill it and started making their app more and more and more user UNFRIENDLY
😡
I have my windows 7 pro pc working now , only draw back is how slow it is when you are use to the speed of a windows 11 pro system ; if I had the money I'm sure some pc guru could upgrade my ssd , memory and gpu and make the system much faster but that will have to wait until I can come up with the money ; but hey , I have a pc that can run dark basic pro now and since I don't use it to surf the web or use it for anything else on the web , it is a system that I don't have to worry about keeping it up to date

I am. I have no real issues. There is an extended kernel in the works to help run programs that have stopped supporting that version of Windows. The operating system is still just as wonderful as when I first used it, and I have every intention of using it for the foreseeable future.
Basically, when Microsoft stopped supporting it, pretty much everyone else stopped supporting it also. It's a shame since I really liked 7.
yeah cuz security reasons
Thanks for this!
I'm building a new gaming computer, and I'm planning to use the older one (Ryzen 3600, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti) to replace my VERY OLD day-to-day work/home computer (i7 4790, GTX 1660).
I'm looking to install Win 7 to one of the SSD drives on what will be the "new" day-to-day, because I have a number of mostly simple, really old games that I still occasionally enjoy wasting time with, that won't run on Windows 10/11.
Hopefully, this tutorial will make that possible, and I'll be able to pass my older day-to-day to a relative whose computer not only has the nerve to be even older than my old one, but which has always had much worse specs!
Very old?! I use GTX 1660 SUPER and INTEL I5 for extreme gaming!
@@kretismyt same, but i use a GTX 970.
I have so much memories of windows 7
Used it as a main OS until 2020 when i got a new laptop (my old one had a *2010* pentium)
super useful video!
I use Win7 but only on old HW like Skylake or older using an ISO that was prepared by a Gigabyte tool that adds USB3 support circa 2015. It also stays offline, its a vastly better experience than Win 10 but its for SW development only. Any newer HW, it would have to run in a VM or use I Classic Shell to make Win10 look and feel older.
Just for kicks, I have tried Vista because thats pretty close to Win7 but even harder to get running except on old 2010 mobos as used by i7 860 (no USB3 at all).
A lot of people myself included would k177 to get Windows 7 to run on modern hardware.
If you could evaulate a bunch of mobos and find the one that had the most support and build Windows 7 systems based on it, you could really make bank. Old people, or blind visually impaired people such as myself, loathe Windows 10 and can't stand it or can't use it.
There is a massive niche market for people who would give their arm and a leg for the latest hardware running 7... for video production and actually... getting work done. Most of us have kept right on using Windows 7 right into 2023 without any issues and it runs smoking fast in 2023... albeit on our hardware that is now 10 years old. So we're dying for a hardware upgrade, but want nothing to do with an OS jump to an inferior operating system saturated with cruftware, telemetry spyware, and just messed up and changed everywhere for no reason at all... and with a completely unusable alphabatized START menu.
Latest hardware can run Windows 7. My current build is using mostly new components and has no issues thus far. Windows 7 64 bit will be compatible with 99% of hardware that runs Windows 10 and 11. The drivers might be an issue for a bit, but there is an extended kernel being worked on by some guys on the r/windows7 subreddit, so you should be just fine getting modern hardware to work with it. Windows 7 is the greatest operating system I have ever used. I grew up with it and fell in love with it. I learned to compute with it, and I will continue with it until my computer falls apart. At that point, I'll just give up on computing. Microsoft is getting far too comfortable with my private information.
Best,
T.W.
i had to use third party software just to replace the atrocious start button on both win 10 and 11
I hate them so fucking much that i would rather have Win 8 start menu
@@ArariaKAgelessTraveller Yeah, I use OpenShell, ShutUp10, and WinAeroTweaker to make the menu like Windows 7, and turn off all the spyware, and bring back some of the Windows 7 features. All three are free written by people like you and me who couldn't stand Win10 interface. Been running them since I first installation, and the only problem I've ever had is I can't activate Win10... so maybe do that before you install them.
Good video!
I also miss Windows 7. Ended up getting used to Win10 but will have to switch to 11 in 2 years, which absolutely blows.
Actually, Windows 10 will be supported until 2032 OFFICIALLY the same way Windows 7 is supported until October 2024.
Through official Microsoft patches intended for Windows Embedded POSReady (Windows 7) or Windows IoT (Windows 10) that are actually compatible with all versions of Windows 7 or Windows 10 respectively.
Again, they're fully compatible with Windows 7 Pro / Windows 10 Pro (or Home, for that matter), and since they're officially sanctioned Microsoft drivers, you can keep using Windows 10 carefree for another *checks watch* 8 years 10 months and 11 days! (as of Nov 27 '23).
Tutorial for Windows 7:
www.youtube.com/watch?=0McZCG8eSO0
Tutorial for Windows 10:
Isn't necessary for another 2 years (so no one's made one yet) but when it happens, it should be more or less the same process as the tutorial above, just searching for Windows 10 IoT Extended Security Update drivers rather than Windows 7 Embedded POSReady Extended Security Update drivers. Might not be the same driver site (looks ancient) so I'd set a reminder to Google that for October 14, 2025. ;-)
i have a desktop pc running windows 7, it’s a modern pc and just installed 7 on it because the motherboard driver page still has drivers for windows 7, and one thing i noticed is fortnite worked completely fine on it up until the release of chapter 4. whatever changes they made in chapter 4 prevent the game from working on windows 7, not sure why or if there’s a way to fix
Where did you download windows 7 legally?
where did u download windows 7? planning to install it to my pc 😊
I use Windows 7 professional on my PC and it still has good performance
one way to install windows on UEFI is to put Windows 8 or later and then mount a windows 7 iso and install it like that, its how I installed Windows 7 on UEFI in VMware.
Windows 7 can be installed on an 8-core Ryzen 7 2700X CPU running on a compatible motherboard with downloadable Windows 7 drivers. Mine is an MSI X470 Gaming Pro motherboard, still sold retail. The only built-in port not supported by Windows 7 is USB-C (Microsoft never updated the driver). No problem, I just use a USB-C to USB-3 adaptor.
i have i219v and i am trying to install ethernet drivers but i get this: cannot install drivers. No intel adapters are found in this computer
I miss windows 7 bro. It helped me become really good with computers even as a 6 year old
Windows 7 only runs on up to 6th Gen Intel Processors, so I am surprised to see it work.
Google for it. Some dudes are running it on even 12th gen.
Window 7 OFFICIALLY runs on 7'th Gen Intel (didn't originally, but Intel caved in as 7 was still supported OFFICIALLY when the 7'th gen CPUs showed up) - and UNOFFICIALLY on later gens.
You *might* have issues with updates on later gen CPUs causing issues.
And don't forget LGA 2066,probably the 10980XE is supported

The most important: Windows Experience index = not show. XD Great video bro

Because Windows 7 and Windows XP are real sister operating system which are best in the world!🤩
I had old DELL computers with Windows XP used for gaming and love it. I played Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Age of Empire 2 and 3, SpellForce 1 to 2, Armies of Exigo, Age of Mythology and Stronghold games.
I had MSI laptop come with Windows 10 (I disabled auto update with program name is StopUpdates10 to prevent any problems also it will work for Windows 11 and later to block auto Window updates) and play Nintendo Switch games on Yuzu emulator and Ryujinx emulator on Nvidia RTX 3060 and running amazing smooth. I got my first Windows 7 install done not long after it was released in 2009. I still have two machines with it installed - a desktop which rarely gets used these days as I don't have the room for it and a laptop which was used regularly up until today when I finally replaced the monitor on a Linux box that I use at my bedside. For that matter, my single Windows 10 laptop is configured to look and (as far as possible) run like Windows 7. I've yet to try W11 but then I don't have a computer that would support it normally so I'd have to use one of the workarounds so I'll have to wait until one of my existing machines becomes available and isn't needed for anything. I just don't trust Microsoft updates!
omg if you can, can you send me any tutorials/tips you got for making windows 10 like 7? i got most of the looks down but i wanna see if i can do more since you said you made it run like 7 as well
I can't get my motherboard to boot a known working WIndows 7 installer on USB key in CSM mode, so I made up a UEFI bootable one using an ISO from another CZcams video where the guy rolled in 800 drivers he scavenged from everywhere and baked into the ISO. I can boot it up all the way to the point of the WIndows 7 installer logo animation, and then it hangs right at the end of the animation.
I'm going to follow your video and see if I can use the methods you used to get Win7 running on a Ryzen 9 7959x with 128gb RAM / Gigglebyte AORUS X670 Elite Gaming motherboard.
I still use Windows 7 every day in 2023 for the last 10 years on an FX-8350 and it runs like a pimped out dream.
At the moment I'm running Zorin OS (linux, but with a Win7 like interface) on the 8950x and it's not bad... It's actually pretty good, once you change a lot of things... dark theme it, increase mouse pointer size, icon sizes, text sizes, etc. However, I really need a WIn7 environment that can run Windows apps natively... mainly Sony Vegas. I bought a copy of WIn 10 and I'll install it as multiboot with eveyrthing else but man I so don't want to live on that desktop if I can avoid it any way possible.
BTW, all my Steam games run just fine under Windows 7 on the FX-8350 in 2023 and I've never had an issue with them. Steam still supports Windows 7, although they've foolishly stated they are going to end that support Dec 2023.
