5/2023 and I was listening to the book again today!
Now 69 years old - diagnosed with CLL in 2011 at a “MD Anderson Clinic”. They NEVER mentioned carbs or diet or anything🤬.
Going through chemo I was eating Sesame Shrimp and fried RICE 2-3 times every week because I didn’t throw it up.
I luckily found Doc Bos just a few years ago on my way to losing weight and getting healthy.
    My Doctors all asked,
“How did you lose that weight!?”🤷
    “Your numbers look great”
“I eat bacon and eggs every afternoon.”

For me, the most important concept in this video is something is VERY simple --FASTING is a SKILL, not A YES/NO decision. Skill development is a path, a journey, a process that by design, will have major and minor failures all along. I like that you said that you'd PRACTICE fasting for one day a week for a whole six months before moving on to longer periods of fasting. Like learning to play a musical instrument, or learning how to play solitaire or tennis, some people will learn faster than others, but the gradual nature of learning to fast is such a wonderful (and forgiving) concept. Thanks for a great conversation. I learned a lot.

Reinforced my understanding of health advice over last 40+ years. I've had lots of inflammation resulting in 3 replacements, both hips and a knee. Eventually my shoulder. Pain is a daily occurrence. I tried ketones in a can as you suggested to get past intense hunger to fast but my sugars went up. So I'm back to 16:8, which works and provides slow weight loss. I know what you mean on brain fog. About a year ago I was talking with a young coworker and could not find my words. I was eating ALOT of highly processed carbs. No more brain fog. I also focus on sleep health. Now, if I could continue weight loss, and eliminate some of my daily pain, I'd be a happy camper. Bmi is now in overweight territory. Good content. Thank you again.

This why it is a must "obligatory" for every adult able Muslim to fast a dedicated month every year (28-30 days in moon calendar)
so for like 30 days continuously without interruption.
we fast roughly from 4am in the morning till around 6pm daily (exactly from dawn time till sun set time), during fasting hours NO any food , no any drink is allowed
and it's a serious sin if someone not fasting
also in Islam it's recommended to fast two days every week or at least three days every month, preferred to be to full moon days

Hi Dr. Boz, I’ve been watching your videos for the past few months and have purchased your book, Anyway You Can (paperback and Kindle). I have been trying to write out a process that will help me to go from Step 1, Step 2, Step 3 and so on. I should share a bit about myself to help you and others reading this understand where I am coming from... I am approaching my 60th birthday next month (22nd June ‘19). I am a self employed Pet Minder running Nigel’s VIPs! since August 2002. I walk for the best part of the day, every day - 7 days a week. So I am a fairly active person. I gave up smoking about 14 years ago. I discovered about 5 years ago I have 20+ sensitivity issues or intolerances. Since these intolerances reared their ugly heads, my diet has been in chaos! I need and want to lose about 2 stone (32lbs) in weight. I have arthritis in a few of my fingers and I fear it is spreading to my thumbs and other joints throughout my body and my energy levels seems to have dropped significantly these past few years. Nearly 20 years ago I was on full doses of Codeine Phosphate, Tramadol, plus other medication for over 10 years(!), which I believe caused what some people ‘brain fog’. I have lost a lot of memories and information from when I worked in wine cellars and wine bars back in the 1980s and I believe it is because of these strong medications. I have other ailments starting, but I won’t bore you with all that’s going on...
Suffice it to say, I know I need to get my weight down and my diet under control. If at all possible, I would like to have a process that is set out so I can follow it with understanding and confidence. I should point out I have not read much of your book as yet due purely to work commitments! Do you have a process set out somewhere that can be either copied out or downloaded, please?
I have been trying to start a new online business for several years now, but without success. And I feel it is partially down to my lack of concentration, energy levels and my confidence. From what I have learned through your videos Annette, the Keto diet, Fasting, etc. has been attributed to an improvement in ailments and certain conditions. There is much more I would like to say, but I will leave it here for now. I hope you are able to respond to these questions and concerns? Many thanks in advance.

How do I fast? How long is each fast? When do I fast, i.e. what frequency? How many times each year or month or week? When I end the fast, do I return to the pre-fast diet or do I ease into it? If I ease back into eating, how long before I return to the regular diet?

I have done a few fasts in the last year, one week, two weeks and one 9 day. I did have to take salt and I was already taking magnesium and potassium regularly anyway.
I did have coffee with heavy cream. On the two week fast, I lost 24 pounds and my blood sugar went to the 80's. I am likely to do another two week fast now that I am eating carnivore and not loosing any weight after a month of starting. I am not discouraged by the non weight loss as my clothes are looser and strangely enough, muscles are larger. Makes no sense but that is the case. I felt great on my 2 week fast after the first two days. I suspect my insulin is high and that is the cause of non dropping weight so the fast should burn that up and allow me to drop fat.

Your muscles I believe are a direct result of growth hormone being released and possibly u may have been estrogen dominant vs testosterone and that can stimulate muscle.
The medical corrupt Drs tell in med school you can't release growth hormone in later years. False. You can. I have. I had a hormone Dr prescribe a drug to me to lower my estrogen when I was 58. It lowered it and she said my muscles should twitch after a few weeks. Sure enuf it did.
The ration of estrogen and testosterone was good. My testosterone was over 1,000.
I'm now 69 and have not been as healthy as I need to. Bout to crank up fasting longer ones. Can easily do 18 everyday. Good luck

Does an intermittent fast of 16-20 hours provide the autophagy benefits or do you need a longer fast of say 24+ hours for the autophagy benefits to really take hold? I took up keto for my arthritis and it helped tremendously for a couple of months but some of the pain has come back. I'm going to start intermittent fasting to see if that helps. I don't want to lose any weight so I'm going to have to eat a lot more on the days following a fast which, oddly, I'm not looking forward to😃 😄 😅 😆 😉.

    • @DoctorBoz
      @DoctorBoz  Před 5 lety +7

The answer is in the numbers. Check your DrBozRatio. Under 80- an okay chance of autophagy. A DBR less than 40 is a solid chance of autophagy. If you get it under 20 - FOR SURE autophagy.

I believe it's at least 18 hrs..Try 20 hrs or "more", eat like 1 or 2 meals in a 4 hr window or a 2 hr window. I do 1.5 to 2 hrs early-mid afternoon. I'm not strict on exact hours, times and calories but eat low carb for sure. Once or twice a week change it up to a 6-8 hr window, 3 meals, no snacks, eat daily protein, veggies, healthy food and workout.

I am glad Dr. Boz has re-discovered fasting, but this is nothing new. There was a great American DR. Paul Bragg who invented this in the 60th of last century and was incredibly successful with it. He wrote many books about it. Anyone who wants to learn how to fast properly need to find those books and follow it. Anyway few advises: NO FOOD AT ALL, just water with lemon. First day is the most difficult and the it becomes better! Your desire to it is actually mostly a desire for positive emotions that food provides and our body just got used to. YOU CAN go without ANY food for 30 days or more (unless you have a specific illness). Start with one day of fasting for the first 3 weeks then do 3 days. IMPORTANT: after long fast give your gut a way getting back into digesting again slowly. 1st day - small portions every 3 hrs of blended veggies like carrots and cabbage, next day solid food and only third day - poultry or meat.

Control of insulin through promotion of ketones is medieval misunderstanding of the problem. Surely, reminding us of the Monty Python movie line, in mock scholastic rhetoric, "Why do witches burn?" To which a peasant shouts, "Because they are made of wood!"
Control of insulin is most reliably and naturally done through a whole food, plant-based diet.
