Joe Pera's comedy is agressively mundane and it's actually comforting.
William Steeves I like to think of it as profoundly irreverent.
"aggressively mundane" .. may i borrow that?
Ought to make a "Slow Cooking with Joe Pera" show, just Joe watching some beans on the stove and reflecting on life.
@Ben Grimm you should introspect about that
@Ben Grimm you need more love in your life, you're psychologically malnourished
They played Baba O'Riley for him, that makes me feel warm inside.
Weird how he didn’t start jumping on the couches...
Definitely Not Dingse! But it made him stumble on the steps:)
Tõnu Tamm right as he went for the thumbs up too
Call the radio station. Maybe they will play it again.
@@noeoep That was a great touch. Not overdone.
I went to college with this guy. He did stand-up for some open mic event and took us all on a "microphone parade" in which he took the mic and just walked around and outside of the building, the entire time singing "it's a microphoooone paraaaade". Definitely one of the most memorable acts I've seen. Happy to see he's doing well!
What's he like normally?
Does he talk like that normally
So hes always been this random
Important life questions here I'm afraid we won't get answered until we stand by heavens gate and can ask God himself.
I'm so jealous! I'm also super curious what he was like
"I'm sorry, I'm not doing the bit, what was the overall question?"

It feels so genuine modest
he's got such a wholesome vibe that i wanna cry

We don’t deserve this man. We must protect him at all costs

Start by making a genuine expression of how much you appreciate the subtleness and softness of his demeanor in this chaotic world, or something or other, rather than using meme text short hand for you expressions. You basically just gave Joe Pera the modern equivalent of "the man's a goddamn national treasure". Joe Pera deserves better, and he would like us all to be better, for ourselves and for others.
MonikerAddict not trying to be rude, and I don’t know your circumstances, but you may wanna relax a bit. Maybe go for a nice stroll like Joe does.

People like Joe because he's unabashedly earnest, and most everything nowadays is cynical irony. It is a breath of fresh air.
Very well said, couldn't agree more wit ya
Except he's not, because it's a character
He's either real, or its the most concincing and inscrutable character I think I've ever seen: I have real sympathy for his gentle awkwardness, because its that convincing.
Unabashedly making fun of old white ppl
@@deathkid510 He basically made up a goofy character out of the guy who made Still Life With Animated Dogs. The commitment to earnestness sells it though.. it's not funny for very long to take the piss out of genuinely nice people
This was better than harmonizing with the boys
Nice
Eddie Murray I thought he said “harmonizing with your boys”
Amen
Great to sleep to...
BahahahananNanananN omg yes
Stephen nails this interview too. He doesn't push the bits, doesn't cajole, doesn't tease. 100% in earnest. 100% wholesome. Joe Pera 2020.
He does Joe justice
yes! it's hard to do that on such "loud" programming. Example: the way Ellen handled ASMR (relaxing videos) on her show. She teased to the point of bullying and the community deservedly shamed her for her on-air mistreatment of something quiet and therapeutic for people. Joe's show is similarly therapeutic, and my respect for Stephen Colbert soared in how he handled the interview!
Seriously!!
Ellen as his VP
Right!?❤️❤️
Imagine: A reboot of "How It's Made" with Joe Pera narrating.

Sounds like a lot of canned laughter is added to the audio to me.
joes blushy nervous reaction when stephen asked him about his significant other is genuinely the sweetest thing ive seen in so long it made me so happy hes just so genuine
The funniest part of this interview is that Joe Pera didn’t make a single fucking joke, I love him.

I can’t believe Stephen had Joe Pera and he actually appreciates his type of comedy! I love Joe Pera talks you to sleep, the animated version!
I know he could talk ME to sleep
i love it too. very calming. 🤗
Yeah, how could Stephen Colbert of all people appreciate the type of comedy where someone plays a character... ^^
Stephen did voice acting and writing for the Adult Swim show Harvey Birdman way back in the early 2000s.
of course Stephen likes Joe Pera!!! Stephen LOVES awkward situations/humor
Joe Pera is taking things down a few notches and I think that's what many people could use in our fast-living times.
Literally, I think that’s the main appeal. It’s just relaxing to watch his material when you’re winding down.
That and just giving the world something that’s not only funny but wholesome. There’s so much irony and negativity in comedy. This guys not making fun of anyone.
@@adelaidemcmillan3176 There's a quote mid-way through season 1 that he says "In fact, I hope I'm not remembered at all" which sounds a little depressing out of context but in context, it's kind of the representation of what you meant by your comforting theater experience. I think the way humanity is headed is creating a need for places and people that allow themselves to be exactly what they are already, without having to busy themselves and strive to be the most complex, loud and worshipped thing
He turns it up to 11. Which, on a broken dial, is actually just passing 10 and going back to 1.
Colbert was awesome in this interview. He took him seriously, didnt act like a jerk. I know Joe probably gets a lot of shit for the way he is, but he's great.

@@mynameisgone7274 unfortunately, its an act. He's from New York, but his character is the complete embodiment of the stereotypical Midwestern do-gooder. Its refreshing, actually. We need a wholesome character in the entertainment industry which is devoid of that very value.
Honestly, the moment when Stephen Colbert mentioned that he enjoyed the colors of bell peppers and thought, "something so beautiful exists in the world, maybe everything will be okay" just felt so sweet and endearing to me. I love that Joe brings that out of people
Guys we’re getting a second Mr. Rogers and we don’t deserve it.
Lol. Maybe you don't. But our children sure do.
😭😭😭 Mr.Joe Pera
I thought the same thing 🙂
This feels like a story where a man is blessed to be forever funny no matter what
People are saying he’s playing a character. Is he? I always thought he had some problems like autism or anxiety
The fact that you don’t know whether or not he’s doing a bit is why he’s so funny. Also Colbert is a great interviewer as a comedian you can tell how interested he is in joes comedy
I don't think Joe knows either
Colbert is terrible interviewer lol
He reminds me of the youtube channel Brad Hall. I think he is the first to do this style of comedy off youtube.
i want to know where Joe thinks the comedy comes from. like, is unbridled sincerity such an expectations subversion that it's funny?
He's in character all the time and does a really good job at it. There's times you can tell in his videos he almost breaks character...
I met Joe Pera at an after party after he performed and I was shocked when I realized he's not playing a character... he was cool
He isn't playing a character? I'm happy to hear that! I know that as a comedian the concept of the self is confusing and there's a bajillion layers of irony and acting but I really hope that his positivity is real because it makes me happy and restores my hope.
@@elh7149 yup, I can confirm its no joke!
You mean, he is actually like this? This is his "real" persona?

lynn pehrson I have a feeling he’s about to blow up. Maybe he will coax out the inner wholesomeness of our world on a large scale.
@@HotStrange yeah we kinda need that maybe. Like we've done whole lenny bruce thing for while now, that's cool and all, but wholesome would be refreshing
Eric Andre has his place too but in our hearts we want to see his antithesis become just as popular.
@@HotStrange i don't think so, and i think that's ok
It's the slow-paced wholesomeness of it all. I think, because it's such a change of pace to our usual diet of obscene comedy, that's why it affects us so much.
I like that he took “awww” as a disappointing awww, and apologized.
400th like

@Jake-tt7qv ehhh, I got broken in by redneck union carpenters but yes, yes indeed.

That small seemingly ridiculous comment about the bell peppers and how he looks at them and thinks "look at this beautiful thing in the world, maybe everything will be okay," quite literally brought me to tears. Maybe it's just today but paired with Joe Pera's show, which is a lot about finding beauty in the simplicity of life, it hit me very, very hard and I appreciate that.
I'm with you... actual genuine tears picturing young Stephen, world freshly shattered, finding hope and comfort in something so simple and perfect. Nothing funnier than a talkshow host genuinely wedged, trying to string along a conversation with a guest very content and at ease in quiet while also aware their earnest and still energy is what makes them so gravitating.
I loved every second of that and Stephen was so kind to him.
Stephen is bizarrely a good late night TV show interviewer. Politics have taken control of all of our late night shows now... But I do like these a lot.
Colbert was weirdly doing Pera's act to Pera while he was sitting there. The two of them trying to 'meekly inhabit the space' was creepy and bizarre.
Colbert did Pera's act to his face, it was creepy.
Joe would be a really easy target to dominate or embarrass in an interview like this, but Stephen appears to genuinely get his act and I love that.
