  • Lawn mowing the toughest site I've seen-broke the Ventrac. It wasn't cut in 3 years. Tall, thick, wet grass, stumps, washouts & more. It was oddly satisfying to watch this come down.

It was my most challenging job, even with the Ventrac. Had to mow it 5 times over to produce acceptable results, so I suggested to the customer that it should be mowed more often. After seeing the results, the customer asked if I thought he could just mow it himself with a standard riding mower.

Most mammals will run from a mower, even most rodents.
Frogs try to hide, like snakes, they stay perfectly still, then try to jump away last second into the blade.
I want someone to invent a device you can put on your lawn as a deterrent to all living things in the grass.
You would set it 15 mins ahead of time, have it on a schedule or make it remote activated.
Then when you arrive to start cutting all the animals have already dispersed.
Would be perfect for the entire agriculture business really.
It's actually the only thing I hate about my job, taking the life of innocent animals.
It's the only aversion I have in all of landscaping.
If I couldn't foresee taking the time to move animals out the way, I take the time to bury them responsibly.
I've even personally nursed some back to full health!
Being in our position you're really forced to weigh efficiency against simple decency.
In my opinion and personal reflection, I've found that it's more worth it to spend the time.

@@youtoober2013 We once had a cat named one ear. I went out to mow the circle drive one weekend. The mower was already out so I just started it where it was sitting. When I moved the mower there sit a baby kitten less one ear. After that I made a point to move the mower before I started it.

that slope looks like a lot of our fields in TN. i've had to drive a Kubota L5030 up, down and across slopes like that.

I've recently bought some land like that, and am new to bush hogging... any tips on how to do it safely? I've managed to brown my shorts a couple of times near the creek bottom...

Glenn Wyant well, if you can’t afford a ventrac or specialized equipment, a small stout tractor with fluid tires (for extra stability) would work. 4-wheel drive would be a good idea to look for. And if the tires can be moved out, I’d recommend to do so. If the areas are really steep, going up and down rather than across is good

Once took a leaf blower to a green (on golf course) with thousands of young frogs. Just barely hopping out of the adjacent pond. What a terrible thing to think some might just cut over them with the reel.
