Good stuff, JP! I think the R8 is basically an R6 Mark II with no ibis and a lot less money. Seems like a no-brainer camera to me. Except I already have an R6 Mark II.
Phil!!! It was fun to shoot. I have the R6 II coming next week and I will shoot it over the 4th of July weekend. I think you may be correct. After hearing you talk about it and looking at others that shoot the R6 II, it is another body I am eager to shoot. All just good fun!! Thank you Phil. 💖🤗🙏
R8 is a Baby R6m2
@@drbeardo6960 It was such a fantastic camera body. I have the R6II coming in next week and I am looking forward to shooting it. 🙏🤗💖
Danke!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! 🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗🤗💖💖💖💖
If the battery was bigger, I guess I would have bought the R8 already.
Compact, cheap, and so many good reviews out there.
Nice video Jonny! 😀👍
Thank you Chris!!! I bought some cheap batteries for the R50 n Amazon and they work great. I use aftermarket batteries a lot EXCEPT for the R3! 🙏🤗💖
What fun, nature is the best thing for us. I just love taking my camera for a walk.
Me too!!! I go out, shoot a couple of things and then forget that I have stuff on the card LOL. It is sometimes like finding treasure. 💖🤗🙏
nice pictures , good ones 👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 💖🤗🙏
First! 🎉
👍👍
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 🙏💖🤗
So cool how the Canon R50 takes out Nikons whole mirrorless line up in autofocus 😅. Go Canon! 😊
I agree 1000% after shooting the R50 and the Nikon Z8 with the most updated firmware - Canon is still way better even with their entry level cameras. I just did not want to put that into a video.... but I agree. 🙏🤗💖
This Sunday I spent all morning photographing oystercatchers. It started with extremely thick fog and ended with blinding sunlight. The 200-800 on the R5 really showed the heat haze distortion. I had maybe half an hour between the fog and the heat haze of decent light, but last year with the 100-500 on the R5 and the same birds, I got better results in general. However, Topaz Photo AI really sharpened up the 200-800 shots from this weekend really well! I've definitely found the 100-500 much better for insects with that shorter MFD just as you have. Maybe one day I'll actually put my 1.4 TC on the 100-500 with the R5.
Awesome. Yeah, I really think the RF 100-500 with the 1.4 extender is just a better set up. I like the convivence and zoom of the 200-800, but this 100-500 as an L lens is just sharper - that is why it is an L lens. I am working on a video talking about lenses while shooting butterflies and shooting the R8. It is all about the glass. 🙏🤗💖
Nice video JP, I have the R8 and use the 200-800 all the time, I find they work well together but I only shoot stills. Good point about the dslr vs Mirrorless, I also use the 90D a lot with the EF 100-400 L but I do struggle to get the exposure just right, I usually have too much or too little exposure! however I am getting better in lightroom as a result 😅
And you know - as long as you get out and just enjoy it. I have come home many times, pulled a couple of photos and dumped the rest. I love playing with all these combos and they all just work. I did not get to put my EF 100-400 on the R8, but I may have to take it out and put it on the R50 - I LOVE that little camera body, and I still think the EF 100-400 is a great lens. 🙏🤗💖
I bought the 100-500 F7.1 lens today based on your review and Phil's also, going to be using it on the R7 and then hopefully on the soon to be discounted R5 😅
It is my FAVORITE lens on the R7!!! have fun with it - it is such a versatile lens and sooooo sharp! 🙏🤗💖
@JonnyPink65 Thank you very much 🙂 I had a 200-800 Canon put by but I changed my mind after listening to your videos and also from Phil Thatch. I mainly do bird and insect photography and the lighter weight makes a huge difference. So I will buy an R6ii or a discounted R5 and use a 1.4 teleconverter. I think that's a good wildlife set.
@@stephenbolger5925 Awesome and thank you. The 100-500 is a more versatile lens by far.... or the 100-400. The 200-800 is great in certain situations. 🙏💖
Like you hat, where did you purchase it? I enjoy your videos
Thankyou!! I got it on Amazon - something cheap!!

I use a R10 with Ef 100-400 ii, last week tried the R8 at shop and that felt even more faster. I tried the rf 600 f11 and found it not so sharp and contrasty, I mentioned that to the shop folks and they told me: you will not like the 200-800 then, better gt the 100-500.
The RF 100-500 is a much better lens than the 200-800 - the shop is correct. 🙏🤗💖
Same sensor as R6ii !!
My rental on the R6II is coming in in Wednesday and I am so looking forward to it. I was looking at the price on that right now as well....... I am really excited to have the comparison. 🙏💖🤗
Hi John what do you prefer to Canon rf 200-800mm Canon R3 or R5 ?
Ah....... really tough call. I do miss the 8K and the 45 megapixels.....but I am enjoying what the R3 offers too with no rolling shutter. The eye AF is better on the R3 and I do prefer the larger body. one advantage I am finding to the smaller sensor of the R3 is I get more storage on a 12 terabyte drive LOL 🙏💖🤗
