That is a FANTASTIC combo!! The 100-500 is my favorite lens too. I stand and watch for them to hover and wait. I have usually pre-focused about where I think they will come back and hover. I use back-button focus - one button set for single point, and one for eye AF. When it comes into view, I hit the eye AF button and it usually locks and and I fire away. Not perfect but it works most of the time. 🙏💖🤗

Thank you. It is but even with the extender, it is still sharper than the 200-800. Nothing is perfect but this combo really is pretty awesome. 🙏🤗💖

I will take that blame. It is such an AMAZING set up and even on the the R3 with the 1.4 extender, it is such a pleasure to use. As Jared has said .... unless you have used them, you just dont know. In Arizona shooting hummingbirds and looking forward to getting home to edit on my set up, not the old travel laptop I have. The images from this lens no matter the body...... WOW! Years and years ago, the D5500 that I loved had the same rotating screens that Canon uses. I LOVED it as it protected the screen when not is use or in a bag. It is a screen stye that I prefer. I rarely use that back screen to shoot as many new shooters do, but when I do.... the Canon style works for me - not a fan of the Nikon style of flip screen..... for me when I use one. 💖😁

Amazon - just some cheap universal sun hat. It was cheap and was going to arrive before the next time I was going out into the field. 💖😁

Amazing lens and set up. To be honest with you, I would go with a extender on the 100-500. You still have the long length, short minimum focus distance and it is light weight. I was shooting the 100-500 with the 1.4 on my R3 the past couple of days here in Arizona for hummingbirds. If you are not sure, you can always rent one of the others as a trial. I have rental links in the description below my video. 💖😁

It dies - almost every mirrorless does except the Nikon Z8 & 9, the Sony A1, the newest Sony that has a global shutter, the Canon R3 (amazing camera body), and the soon to be released R1 and R5II I have shot with the R5 since shortly after it came out and it has never been a problem. The R6II shoots so fast, you can pull one or ten amazing shots. It was fun to shoot. 🙏💖🤗

It is a fantastic and super sharp lens. I think so many are afraid of the F11 - I know I was at first, but after I used it I was sold. I am going to Arizona tomorrow to shoot hummingbirds and although I am packed, I think I will repack my clothes so I can fit that lens in there too. 🙏💖🤗

Well, I have to admit I have not used that lens so I can not speak to that. I have been waiting for the rental house I use to have it back in stock. I would like to play with it on the Z6III and rent both together. The Canon focus in my opinion is still better though so it is a trade off. None of the systems is perfect and everything has limitations. We just have to work within them. 🙏💖🤗

Easy answer for me based on how I shoot. I would pick the 100-500 with the 1.4 extender all day long. The shorter minimum focus distance for me is HUGE!! My next video I have that I think is scheduled to release the coming Tuesday shows the closeups with the 100-500 and 1.4 on the R7 to get up close and personal. But even when I was shooting hummingbirds going between that set up and the 200-800, to me and on my computer, the L glass on the 100-500 + 1.4 extender was just sharper. You lose the zoom, but for me, I almost never use it anyway and shoot it at full extension. Just my opinion and thank you for asking, 🙏💖🤗

Chris. You know, after I rented that I almost bought it myself. I really, really liked playing with that and was so impressed by the color and how far Sony has come with the raw file color data. That is one thing I HATED about Sony and told one of the reps that one time when out shooting without realizing he worked for Sony. LOL I told him the the focus was great but the raw files looked over sharpened and the color looked to washed out to recover. That is why I have not shot Sony in a long time other than the A6700. I really did love that little camera. have fun with it and i look so forward to seeing your amazing work with it. 🙏💖🤗

I would take the A6700 over the Z8 and even the Z9. In my last outing with the Z8 after the updated firmware, even the entry level Canon R50 focus is superior. I had my Z9 for about 6 months before taking a loss on it. Great cameras and feature but just does not have the performance of Canon or Sony. And as Jared has said so many times.... unless you have used them all, you just dont know. 🙏💖🤗

@@JonnyPink65 that 6700 is super fun. I did not know that I would like Sony that much. I bought it for video macro photography first, with the 4k / 120fps cropped. (I have to try!) But I bought already a sigma 18-50 F2.8 for general purpose. It's just amazing! I keep my R7 for wildlife, and I will still shoot macro with my X-T5 though. 😀👍 Cheers!

All that said, I start to save some money for the Nikon Z8 mark II... 😂

Thank you for that input - you are so correct. The new bodies are really awesome and help the new shooters get better results. I was figuring that most of the new shooters that watch my stuff or ask for advice are shooting wildlife so that is where my head was going here and why I mention that MY favorite focal length for wildlife is 800mm. @@JonnyPink65 😄 I just bought it with the 90mm F2.8 macro. My first step into Sony. My first stabilized macro lens. I had to buy it to see if it helps filming insects. Also curious about the insect AF, but not expecting miracle.

I personally dont shoot any of my cameos in crop mode. All you are really doing is using a smaller section of the sensor. I prefer to use the full sensor and crop in when developing in post. 🙏💖🤗

Some are big, some are small..... but there are a couple that are REALLY big and those I stay a little farther back from. 🙏💖🤗

Chris!!!! I dont know why but lately I have been having fun with that. I use GoPro some of the time, so for a couple of the "set up" shots, I set it to slomo just for fun. I also like shooting the Canons hand held in fast frame rate for the same effect. All just fun. 🙏💖🤗
