    Really love that you help so many people Shaun and your advice is sound. People need to believe they can get better. It's the continuous living and allowing anxiety and DpDr to be that makes it go away rather than constant checking in and hoping it's gone or worse being afraid of it. My dad died suddenly during Covid, leaving me as an orphan with no family members on earth. I smoked as I usually do and it always helped me but on this day I had a total meltdown and I thought I was dying of a heart attack. It was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me and it took a very long time to realize that it was the DPDR and not the weed. It’s been two years and I finally stopped the DPDR but I had to change a LOT of things about my life - food, caffeine, exercise - that were never a problem before. I’m not 100% but it was HUGE finding out what the problem really was ❤

      I’m sorry about your father. I had a similar recovery experience, where I acknowledged it was the depersonalisation and not the weed. I also acknowledged that depersonalisation was just a symptom of anxiety or a response to it. I just tried to live a normal life again, faking it at first until I started to slowly feel normal again.

      @@MrBrandonLau Thank you for your kindness. I lived in Colorado at the time and was definitely abusing the weed and had such a high tolerance that it was very, very confusing to think that was the issue. It made no sense. My second thought was that it was Covid or some medical issue. Those factors made it very hard to get a grasp on the issue. I’m finding the CPTSD recovery methods very useful because the death of my dad triggered latent childhood issues I never dealt with. On top of that, I moved across the country. There were sooo many layers to the onion. Thank goodness for channels like this and the kind comments that go along with them 🤍

    Shaun, I hope you will read this comment! I'm from Russia, and I was feeling DP about 2 years. I had a hard variant of DP, I lost my friends, didn't pass the exams, I thought I'm crazy or have schizophrenia! My main problem was the knowledge of solipsism... I couldn't recover because I was afraid, that reality actually doesn't exist! I was afraid that my thoughts were true, and I'm one person in universe.... But thanks to your video even I recovered!! I live very good, like I always lived! After very hard DP I live much better, that I lived before it!! I became absolutely free and self-confident, and other people can't believe that I was insecure, anxious person, which couldn't even say something! Thank you so much that you care about not only english people, but about russians too! Thanks to russian subtitles in your videos, I was able to understand your video much better!

    Hi shaun! I’ve read your entire manual and so far it’s been a big help. I’ve felt a lot of symptoms alleviate, but now the most recent symptom I’ve been struggling with is the fear of death. It feel like “existential thoughts” doesn’t really encapsulate the dread this feeling entails, or maybe it’s all along the same vain? I just know that I’ve been making a lot of progress, but this seems to be the newest symptom (and worst in my opinion). Was just wondering if you had some thoughts on this specifically, and thank you for all that you do!

    Had DP/DR when I was in highschool from 14-17 went away for a while, had small bouts of it on and off. Had a horrible panic attack three days ago. Next day started feeling a bit out of it but wasn’t too worried. That night got on Dr.google and convinced myself I’d go insane or have psychosis/ schizophrenia. Next morning things are much worse. Feel so disconnected from reality. Have bad migraines, hard to sleep. Super hard to focus or concentrate. I keep questioning everything like why am I walking, eating. What am I talking about this for? Stupid stuff like that. Makes me feel crazy. I know it’s DP/ DR but man it’s so rough. I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. The hardest part is the not being able to think clearly part and the time distortion. I can’t tell what time of day it is even tho in the back of my mind you do typically know. Ugh I have hope that this will go away. Gotta stop stressing about it. I’m here for anyone in these comments that wants to chat or has similar symptoms as me. Praying for all of us.

      Hey Jake, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com

Then I came across Shawn’s videos and i’m currently watching my third video of his at 3AM. When she started talking about how she couldn’t enjoy music like she used too I broke down because my only comfort in this world is music and for the past 6/7 months i’ve been in a state where music overwhelms me and I genuinely can’t handle listening to anything. @Dpmanual  Před rokem +2

      Hey Matt! So the symptoms of anxiety / DPDR are very consistent, but what can happen is that over time we can focus on different aspects of the condition (e.g., memory issues, vision problems, existential thoughts etc) and that can feel like the symptoms themselves are changing. But essentially it’s the same as if somebody with hayfever focused on different aspects of that condition, and worried that their symptoms were changing from runny nose to itchy eyes, to sneezing etc. They are still all symptoms of the same condition, all that’s happening is that your focus on specific symptoms changes over time. But don’t worry, they are all still harmless and temporary and will fade away and stop as your recovery continues 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/

      Hey, thanks for your comment. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com

      I smoked marijuana. I then had a couple of panic attacks. My visuals are all the ones I've seen before, only in an enhanced format. Tears in my eyes, a black ball on the sides when I get tired and look away to the side, and all that I have listed above. It all improves after sleep, and worsens when I'm tired. But compared to what it was, it's still okay.

    QUESTION for anyone here, please please answer - I got altered internally from edibles two months ago, developed dpdr afterwards, but I want to know if my experience is anyone else's - it's not so much the external issues I have but my internal self, my old feeling of my internal self and being is altered. By that I mean I don't feel like I'm operating from the same internal place I was before the weed. I see all these weed dpdr stories but none have really experienced complete loss of inner self feeling, it's always just I felt weird, visual issues, etc Please tell me someone is experiencing this, I just want to FEEL like the way my old self felt again

    • @Dpmanual

      Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual.
      And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

    • @Dpmanual
      @Dpmanual  Před rokem +3

      Ultimately the decision is up to you. I do know of some people who have made complete DP recoveries and who have safely gone back to smoking weed. However, I would strongly recommend that you avoid weed and other drugs completely at the very least until you've made a complete and 100% recovery. Also, you do need to understand that if weed triggered the Depersonalization, there's always going to be a slight risk that it could happen again. Now, once you've recovered from DPDR and understand what the condition is, it's a lot less likely to return as an ongoing condition -- because if you ever encounter the feelings again you recognize them and can allow them to pass naturally. Again, I wouldn't recommend doing it myself, but the decision is up to you. Hope that helps! 😊
