Until this and Kelly Clarkson my dad and others didn't think it was possible to write a Xmas song that was a classic level material. Made him happy and gave him hope for a little while longer. Despite it's problems here and there, we loved the Darkness. They were so damn good.

Best Christmas song since the early-70's, when Christmas was 'fun' (remember that ?). + - Think about this - all them Christmas hymns were about 'rejoicing', not flagellating yerself about things that YOU (frankly) have got very little chance of changing. AND this song doesn't actually need the 'double entendres' to make it simultaneously fun but relevant - I read it straight : it still creases me up (even without the video) & I'm with it 100% ... . How the British public were more interested in Michael Andrews and Gary Jules' depressing cover of Tears For Fears' Mad World (from a film that was over two years old) to where it became 2003's Christmas Number One instead of this, I'll never know.
What's more astonishing is that The Darkness' Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) wasn't even the only candidate more suitable. There was Billy Mack's Christmas Is All Around (Bill Nighy's cover of The Troggs' Love Is All Around in Love Actually), Bo' Selecta!'s Proper Crimbo - hell, even The Cheeky Girls' Have A Cheeky Christmas would've been more fitting than that morbid Mad World cover! Was everyone in the country just miserable in general in 2003?
Oh well, at least Justin and Dan Hawkins got some compensation by being a part of Band Aid 20 the following year, which _was_ that year's Christmas Number One.

I remember the wonderful choices we had that year for number one and I supported the Darkness and still have the CD Single and album of Permission to Land as a German friend got me the German Christmas edition.
I personally was really happy during this time and I know that my friends and family were, to the point where I look back on my late 20`s with real joy and fondness. I was 29 years old in June 2003 so by the time it was Christmas 🤶 2003 I was only 6 months away from becoming a 30 year old 😯 however it didn't bother me at all.
I remember watching a documentary about the mad world song becoming the Christmas number one and being told everyone must have been unhappy and at a real low to put it in the number one spot. The only thing is I didn't know anyone who felt that way.
Now in 2020 I am spoilt for choice after the awfully bad time covid has brought, shame we couldn't have had a chance to put the Darkness song in at number one for Christmas 2020,it would have been nice to have righted a wrong at such a troubled time when we really needed an amazing Christmas song to help us out of the Darkness!

Biblical explanation of the Gospel:
God doesn’t want anybody in hell, but you must understand why
we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go
there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but
rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam
sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we ALL have sinned. (Romans 3:23)
The law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). Since we have all sinned, we all deserve hell.
Revelation 21:8 says that all liars will go to hell. Yes, even if you have lied once in your life, you are sentenced to hell - that's how
high God's standards are of moral perfection because God is holy and righteous, there is not one sin in Him.
For someone to be justified before holy God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ
- for He lived a sinless life, died on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day.
None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all
have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us
are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is
guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). Our carnal mind is hostile to God; it does not submit
to God's moral law and it never will (Romans 8:7). We hate the thought of God for the same reason a criminal
hates a policeman - we know we have sinned against God and are guilty of it and we don't want to be damned.
No good works will ever save you. You can't earn salvation by good works, because God will judge us for our sin.
Good News is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect, holy, sinless life and He died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16)
We aren’t saved by our good works, but only by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
