  • How do you ramp up your throwing intensity? đŸ€”
    -
Are your warm-up throws all arm? Or do you ramp up the lower half first, allowing the arm to be along for the ride? Understanding my "intensity dial" analogy is a super simple hack to reinforce high-velo patterns each day.
    -
Your warm-up throws are an opportunity to squeeze every ounce out of the lower half. 🔑 The arm will be there once you get to 80%+ intensity. Players who warm up all-arm bypass the lower half & train themselves to "muscle up".
    -
Instead, think throw "hard easy" - how hard can I throw w/ as little effort from my arm as possible That's the goal as you ramp up.💡

I stumbled upon this video last night and put it in my head today I had a start against probably the best team I’ve pitched against and began stretching and implementing this into my throwing I got out to about 140 feet max and was just throwing strikes after just starting to turn up my arm and uses 100% legs. I threw 4 shutout innings 5 k’s 1 hit 3 walks. I have just a little tenderness in my bicep after 83 pitches thanks alot guys I was able to sustain velo all 4 innings.

How do you warm up in your throwing? What are your thoughts on the intensity dial analogy? Let me know in the comments. ⬇

NAIA pitcher: start out with just flicking the wrist, then into standing square to my partner and feel the hips rotate then my upper half transition into rockers with the same feeling to about 100 feet. Then go to flat ground mechanics riding the lower half then go into crow hop. Definitely find my self using more arm intensity than needed in the beginning. I like the idea of ramping up lower half intensity. Great video thank you

I use plyoballs and j bands and do dynamic warmup. Do you buy into the velo with specific weighted plyos? I bought a stalker radar gun and made huge gains in a week with throwing velo using 3 plyo balls weighing 16,18, and 20 oz but when i throw a regular 5 oz ball my velo is only slightly higher. Should I get a tuning fork for the radar gun?

Yup, I like to feel out the back leg a little and the hinge. Then feel out the front leg paw back and naturally the arm will speed up and then I can work on “extension”. Then adding intent “into release” with the arm

What I have seen from the videos. Do you teach to recoil there throwing arm. They are going to have injuries of the shoulder and elbow. I agree with long toss.that really helps as long you finish your throw and don't recoil.

I heard a podcast by an expert in movements and she said that warming up by throwing lightly and gradually increase the velo, is not warm up. She said your arm should be warmed up before even grabbing a ball.

Yea exactly you should never warm up the arm by throwing. Theirs a difference between warming up when you’re throwing and warming up before throwing. Both are very important. Two different meanings
