Cultures can be preserved and shared through different mediums; history, myths/legends, art, dance, movies, etc.
This interested in history will likely learn the history of their own people and thus preserve it.
TanJem is interested (and very good at) dance, so she learns the dances of her culture and preserves them.
The historian might not be as good at dancing and the dancer might not know as much of the history, but both preserve their culture.
