Rey is so horribly written and beyond saving, she is now at this point a dead horse that Disney continues to beat.
Yeh, you could imagine a tv show that only gets good in S4, but SW gets full attention from day 1. Unfortunately they need to get it right extremely quickly. Movie 4 is too late
Sooo true
I really dont like how they make Rey lick her lightsaber blade or smth and only get a first degree burn
She stole Anakin’s role as the chosen one she stole luke’s roll to bring the Jedi to a new age and being the new hope she stole their lightsaber Luke’s x wing the falcon their victory she just stole everything, got nothing towards Daisy, but I could care less about Rey…
@@ian-flanaganthat’s exactly how you save a character. There needs to be SOMETHING there to save. Good example: Ahsoka Tano. She was hated at first, but what was hated (outside the retcon of anikan having an apprentice) was what made sense for the character. She was an impulsive teen, practically a kid. Her immaturity was to he expected. Plus, forcing anikan into mentorship is an organic way for HIM to grow as well. Heck, her being like him served as a way of seeing obi-wan’s perspective training him! And as we saw in even season 1 of clone wars, we see her try, fail and grow. Rey, in the other hand, either had nothing or what WAS there was squandered by a reverse character arc. She only got worse and the films progressed.
Daisy Ridley’s agent really should advise her to disconnect from LF. There are too many signs this will completely tank her career (Disney and LFs current state, no script, directors lack of experience , state of Star Wars)
This is all Daisy has. Unlike Adam Driver, her career is basically non-existent before and after Star Wars.
The same can be said for many SW actors. Carrie, Hayden, hell even Mark Hamill could be thrown in there if you discount him voice acting the Joker and appearing in Jay and Silent Bob...
there's no way she'd turn down that money
it already tanked her career
Maybe she can direct the movie.
Adam Driver is already smart and disassociated himself from Star Wars his career is going well.
Imagine creating a character you absolutely hate and make her infallible. Thanks a lot, Disney

Especially after the money lost with Dial of Destiny.
That’s the thing I can’t understand at all. @@johnjennings6473Hollywood was a propaganda outlet from the guy who founded it, and wealth has never in history been as concentrated among so few as it is today. They can easily bankroll a few cinema projects if it helps to keep their entire system working.
Honestly, I actually don't think that Kennedy and her ilk understand even now just how wrong-headed their views are. They hear absolutely nothing even remotely problematic in the words of someone like this director, or Rachel Zegler, etc. They practically never encounter anybody who disagrees with that stuff and doesn't call them brave and progressive for it. Those bubbles are more common than we would like to think, Lord have mercy on their souls.
Let’s make them go broke then
They don't care what you and i think. This is exactly what they want. To rub everyone's face in it and say: there's nothing you can do about it.
It's not about progressiveness but about grift at this point. None of these guys remotely have talent that would earn them a job that actually demands competence. So they are using this plus nepotism to keep themselves afloat.
I never would have believed they would go back to Rey after the ST. They needed a real fresh start with proven talent helming this next one. Consulting with real SW loremasters (not Hidalgo for Heaven's sake) helping keep it tight. It really feels like a self-destruction. The least I expected for the next film was bringing back George as a consultant if only as a token olive branch to the fans. Instead they are going full South Park episode.
Even Dave Filoni or some one could have salvaged it, it's not like it's difficult. Just pretend like the sequel trilogy never happened and move on like the shows have.
I can believe it. Nothing has changed over at LucasFilm. They're going to double down. What I can't believe is they convinced Ridley to do it. I hope she's getting PAID to be dragged through this again.

At least Solo was good, IMHO
@@svocobraThey made Lando a toaster f@#$er.
Yet it was implied and didn’t actually happen. Lando even seemed indifferent.
The Rey movie is not Dead On Arrival, it was Dead before it was even thought of.
It's going to bomb worse than the Marvels
Here's my take... Exactly ss you said around 4:50, They know a Rey movie will bomb because a large portion of the fanbase don't like the character, so they hire a controversial director meaning when the movie does bomb because people don't like the character or the direction (basically giving Luke's EU arc to Rey), they can blame it on the fan base for not liking the director. They're essentially getting the excuses loaded before even releasing the movie, because they know its one of the dumbest things they're doing, doubling down on a crap character from a crap trilogy and just want to try and create a "new audience".
And yet that new audience will never come. Because most "new fans" will be scared off by how toxic the Star Wars fandom has become and how many have left.
In Disney's quest to milk the golden goose and get a new audience of idiots, they ended up not only pushing away old fans, but new ones as well. Especially since most "new fans" are already growing more aware of Disney's failed attempts at wokeness and see the company as a old cow trying to be hip.
And we all know the one CEO who will be held responsible for the downfall of Disney. And he only has one year left to find a successor.
THis only happens when people that don't actually have to pay their own money make the decisions. Settings something up to fail FROM THE START and also set up an excuse for that failing is just... crazy.
Same thing they did for Kenobi. Bringing up shit beforehand so they can pass off criticism as racism and sexism and bullshit.
I'm afraid Star Wars fans need to stop engaging in bizarre conspiracy theories.
Disney just ensured the final nail in the coffin for Star Wars has been struck in.
Unless Sharmeen is let go but this is not a final nail for SW overall (Sequels it will be).
Rey and Ashoka Tano aren't big enough of characters to keep Star Wars afloat they aren't as popular as Yoda,Luke Skywalker,Leia Organa,Anikan Skywalker,Padme Amidala,Obi Wan Kenobi,Lando Carrision,Darth Vader,Darth Maul,General Grievous,Count Dooku, and Emperor Palpatine all these characters have made Star Wars and left a legacy and have a legion of fans. All I'm saying is Rey and Ashoka from the way Disney is marketing they r making them the new mascots but by discarding the old characters Star Wars will sink faster then the Titanic.
@@FTChomp9980 They have not got around to completely ruining Lando yet... I'm sure that is on their to do list though.
I hate to say it, but Disney doesn't care. As the Joker once said, it's not about money. It's about sending a Message.
It's not about the woke stuff, that's not reason they can keep failing. That's what monopolization is. Having access to Disney's huge vaults means you're never going to hard up for cash. So they're free to do whatever they want, not what we want.
Nailed it.
It's still crazy and messed up to me that at the end of it all the only one left standing is a palpatine.
Unfortunately for me the character Rey is basically tarnishing the legacy of Anakin and Luke Skywalker and as such, the Original Trilogy as well.
They brought back Palpatine so that Rey would be the one to defeat him, completely undermining the journey Anakin Skywalker went through.
Now they are having Rey be the one who rebuilds the Jedi Order after having portrayed Luke as failing to do so.
Instead of progressing the story they effectively changed it so that this Mary Sue character is now the saviour of the galaxy and the one to rebuild the Jedi. Then they wonder why the fans aren't buying what they're selling?
I'll never see the Rey movie but I'm not angry about it. At this point, I don't care about anything Star Wars after the Battle of Endor. They can do whatever they want in that time period. For me, the story ends when Anakin throws Palpatine into the Death Star core and saves his son, turning back to the light side and fulfilling his destiny as the Chosen One.
So far, Disney Star Wars in the pre-ROTJ era hasn't been bad. A lot of people hated the Kenobi show, but I didn't mind it. Tales of the Jedi and Andor have been good. Rogue One was great as well. Disney's pre-ROTJ content is the only thing keeping me from giving up Star Wars entirely, and I hope it stays that way.
@@bchristian85 before Disney bought Star Wars in 2012 and made the Extended Universe Non-Canon, there was plenty of content post the Battle of Endor, including Luke Skywalker having a wife, Mara Jade and a son, Ben Skywalker. There was also content around the spirit of Palpatine lingering on post the death of his physical body and causing the galaxy problems as they rebuilt following the collapse of his Sith Empire.
Me personally, I like the Knights of the Old Republic video games much more than the Skywalker saga portrayed in the movies.
@@noelburland7169 De-cannonizing the EU was probably the only thing I agree with Disney on. You might want to go re-read those books, because they were somewhere between drek and mediocre. Yes, even the Thrawn series. If you read what they wrote instead of filling in the blanks with your imagination, you'll find the EU is wanting. Lucas let any hack take a whack as long as he got his royalties and it SHOWS. Once Lucas got the bug to do Star Wars again, those stories became a problem. An absolute minefield of IP rights.
@@Banzai51 ok fair enough. I do still like the KOTOR series but even that became plagued with issues. After the huge success of the first game, the sequel was rushed and released incomplete. A potential third game was canceled before LucasArts released TOR, the MMO that made them a truckload of money through in-game purchases but was barely a follow-up game to the KOTOR series.
@@Banzai51 and for me decanonnizing the EU is where Disney went wrong. Sure, a minefield to navigate but i still prefer Legacy of the Force as my sequel. Daisy/Adam were a good choice for the Solo twins.
We needed to see Rey struggle. We needed to see that her actions had consequences. Chewie, for example, dying during TROS. The writers wanted her to be this larger than life character, able to take on and overcome everything on the first try. Unfortunately that isn't reality. We all struggle, we all fail, we all have weaknesses. Rey was not relatable. She was and is a character that can do no wrong.
I'm curious to see what happens with this new movie, have no expectations, and put it at being completed at 50/50.
Absolutely! I remember seeing that in the cinema and thinking "Wow! She thought she was in control and has just done something appalling." But no, the writers gave her a pass (because woman can never feel bad for more than thirty seconds on screen) and Chewie wasn't on that ship. Rey being severely tempted and falling to the dark with Ben being the one to pull her back (and together defeating Palpatine) would have been good and fitted with the redemption arc.
When her and Finn escaped in the Falcon in TFU, neither of them had flown before but Rey was suddenly a natural pilot.
What could've been done was some nice banter like:
FINN: Ever flown a ship before?
REY: No, have you?
FINN: No.
REY: OK. So what do we do now?
FINN: We could try winging it or wait for those TIEs to blow us up. I saw a gunner seat outside so I'll see if I can hold them off while you get this thing moving.
REY: Good plan. OK, what does this button do? (presses a switch, a BANG from somewhere is heard) OK, clearly not the ignition switch then.

I feel bad for Daisy. The amount of hate she received for the sequel trilogy. To see her back and potentially put her in that position again… ugh 😔

She's made a lot of money to help her feel better.
I feel sorry for her in the sequel trilogy. I have no sympathy for her return. She should have done stage work- independent films- ANYTHING except return to this career ending series of content.
Yea, she's mentioned struggling with finding other roles after the the sequels. (It's not her fault how her character was written.) Some extreme fans who wanted Rey and Ben to live happily ever after harassed her and Adam Driver. They wanted them to be together in real life and even went after their real life partners. (Thankfully, not everyone who liked the pairing is like this.)
My main problem with the sequel trilogy was how rhey did Finn so incredibly dirty. A black former Stormtrooper becomes a Jedi? That would have been amazing! Instead all we got was Finn screaming Ray's name.
What does his race have to do with anything
Yes, Finn was potentially a brilliant character, but then so was Rey. Both were acted pretty well, at least in the first movie. Then Finn just got sidelined because the next 2 directors didn't understand the character and everyone tried way too hard to remake the original trilogy, and cram the old characters in for useless fan service. Nobody needed a bigger Death Star (Starkiller Base) or another speeder vs AT-AT battle (Crait), or useless extraneous characters (I'm looking at you, General Hux and Admiral Holdo). We needed new, well-crafted stories with engaging characters, and we got neither.
@@2apocalypsex In an age of gender and race swaps, having a non white male character that's completely original is becoming increasingly revolutionary now.
Completely agree! They set it up as if Finn‘s going to become a Jedi in the first one, and I thought the idea of a stormtrooper not only defecting, but becoming Jedi sounded awesome. Then by the second they’re like; “OK your comic relief now, you’re this trilogy’s Jar Jar”. sidenote, aside from the obvious mistake of not having Han, Leia, chewy, Lando, Luke, and the droids share a scene together; I really wish that Finn and Lando got to interact more. I genuinely think their personalities would complement each other.
He could've put his skills to use by becoming a captain leading the Resistance's ground troops.
This is why I can't even give Disney a chance. I don't care if Andor or the Bad Batch is "good," because Disney obviously doesn't care about its fans or our money. My money would only go towards funding stuff like *this.*
They are actively repelling even the most patient and forgiving fans at this point.
I think Rey is beyond redemption, to be honest. The sequel trilogy set her up to have zero flaws and no enemy could harm her. Thus, there’s no tension in any of her scenes. And if there’s no tension, there’s no reason to have an interest in the character. Even Superman has to face kryptonite. But the Disney movies never developed a kryptonite for Rey.
It’s not just the tension that’s missing. To fail and being challenged on your personal goals is a big part of the heroes journey. But Rey never had any journey. She was the hero from day one, got never challenged and actually has no goals outside of being the hero.
That’s ok for a character in a beer and pretzel RPG game, nobody expects more than action and fun moments from those, definitely not great writing and deep character moments. But for a Star Wars movie produced for hundreds of millions?
One of the worst parts is that Obaid-Chinoy's making men uncomfortable was in the context of showing their horrible treatment of women through acid attacks and honor killings. So her excellent, necessary work doing this could be overshadowed by throwing her, without any experience directing something like this, into blockbuster world, with all the pressure in the universe on her. And to top it off, Damon Lindelof might be involved.
The thing is, she's blaming men for patriarchy, but historically women have held uphold it too. So she's dead wrong in every way.
She'll become the next Rian Jonson...
So her carreer and all the women in the world living under opression are at stake here. She better do a good job and not make a man hating movie then

Oh, but she will. Having femunism on the brain is utterly devastating.
to be fair, I think Pakistani women are more restricted than in the west. there was a politico or nbc story a few months ago about a town in michigan that was setup as a (de facto not official) refugee landing spot for the muslim community, and when it became muslim majority, all of the civic offices immediately became male offices (by vote not law), and they banned those rainbow flags or anything on civic property or using civic funds. the rule against public funds for social justice activities actually has some solid legal underpinnings. i'm not here to argue it so much as to point out that the culture is generally more conservative, like maybe generic christianity before all the more liberalizing of the late 20th century and the suffrage movement throughout the 20th century.

Star wars is dead
Characters who are "Mary Sue" can't have any long lasting value. There is no arc of growth or struggle and therefore all you have is a full flushed out character who no one has any invested emotion. Rey was DOA from the start.
It's genuinely unbelievable seeing the choice of the director, imagine the reaction if a male director went on stage and stated "I enjoy making women uncomfortable" when discussing making films, that it's the intention behind making them, he would never work again but somehow this is a perfect idea for Disney, just shows the state of the company that sadly owns star wars.
Something tells me you didn't see The Critical Drinker's video regarding the director. Her quote of making men uncomfortable refers to a project she was involved in, highlighting honour killing in her homeland. I detest what Kathleen Kennedy has done to Star Wars, but one must maintain objectivity.
How many "last failures" will be the last failure for Star Wars or Kennedy? I keep hearing the argument of "but if that flops, she definitely is gone" since when? Rise of Skywalker? If Indiana Jones did not kill her, only old age will.

I really feel bad for Daisy Ridley here. She doesn’t deserve to be put through the inevitable ringer.
I won’t be surprised if Ridley quits acting after this, or stays as far away from Hollywood and sticks to independent films from that point on.
Agreed none of the problems with Rey are her fault. Disney is bringer her back just to set her up for failure.
At this point, I've accepted that there probably isn't anybody inside Disney who is secretly siding with us and plotting to replace Kathleen Kennedy, or at least nobody who is in a position to actually make that happen. If losing money at the box office, or even specifically losing money on a Star Wars movie, was enough to get her fired, it would have happened already.
The overwhelming majority of people have a "go along to get along" mindset, so the idea that anyone in Disney is plotting an anti Kennedy insurgency is ridiculous to begin with when you have that in mind. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there are some uncle toms in Lucasfilm who don't approve of a lot of their creative decisions but keep their mouths shut and be good little boys.
The sequels biggest "sin" was leaving out Anakin, who is the core character of the whole Skyalker Saga.
But one frank chat between Anakin and his emo grandson would have made all of the sequels unnecessary, and we can’t have that, can we? 😂
@Himmiefan the second was not having the original cast have a scene together at the same time. Wasted Opportunity.
Does anyone think if Rey took a “Vader-arc” where she went down a dark path and became a Sith Lord, would that be interesting to see? She could go full Asajj Ventress with a bald head and everything…
"Downfall" and "Redemption" Arcs are tricky to write even in a good story. If we look at a few of her scenes there are interesting seeds for a "Downfall" arc. Being treated as a slave, having her parents leave her on Jakku and the death of Han were all things that could lead Rey to become the next Vader. This would have set a nice parallel to Kylo Ren, where after killing his father becomes conflicted about whether or not he truly wishes to become the Next Vader.
It would make sense because she is a palpatine and would giver her an actual character arc. But no one in the lucasfilms writing room has the balls and talent to pull of such an arc and do it well.
That would be cool and could save star wars. But this movie will be about evil men opressing Ray and she will have to fight her way to freedom.
No. The only interesting thing to do with her character now is remove her from the story completely
No, she should have started on one. Dark Rey looked awesome, could have been a Knight of Ren Sith Adept. Ben shows up, takes control but something starts to grow in her so she seeks more of the light while Ben goes dark. Climatic battle at the end of ST2 between them on opposite sides. Third movie has Luke and Rey try to rebuild the Jedi Order and that pulls Ben away from the Dark Side. Maybe he still dies but at least then there was an Arc and way to remember that even heroes can fail and villains can find redemption.
I would love to see Thor and Theory have a chat about this. I think they could do some good in bridging the gaps in the SW fandoms. You do great work Thor.
The problem with Rey is she basically replaced Luke Skywalker:
Luke skywalker was supposed to be the last Jedi and the one who helped defeat Palpatine and then rebuilt the Jedi order. But the sequel trilogy made it so instead it’s Rey who fills that role. And this movie will continue that.
Obviously that will piss of fans of Luke Skywalker. There’s not really any way to redeem that, so this movie will have a hard time winning back those fans.
Yeah, Anakin's sacrifice means nothing as Rey killed Palpatine. Luke failed to bring the Jedi back as Rey will create a new Order. Kind of makes Episode 1-6 irrelevant
@@elmermedina1713 Oh, no, we definitely need episodes 4-6 so we can know how Rey got her ship, the Millennium Falcon.
Rey's character development could have been handled differently for sure. Instead of having her just be the new generation of Jedi along with Ben, they destroyed the original characters to recreate Luke and have her be the new hope.😐🙄They did not have to do this. Rey could have been a good character on her own without ruining the stories of Anakin and Luke to lift her up. That's not good storytelling, imo.
Rey brought back the term "Mary Sue" into the public lexicon. How Disney didn't notice this is and realize that they royally fucked up is beyond my brain cells.
Pft, please. I was mever going to give the Sequel Trilogy a chance. Mostly because it can't be fixed, but because I just don't care anymore. The Rey movie is just a middle finger to the fans. That is pretty obvious.
You still care enough to whine and complain about everything else so why are you still here then?
@@achaudhari101 Because I want to be here and I respect what Thor has to has to say. Have a problem with that, Filoni Lover?
@crossfire34 It’s no different than hate watching on your end and you say you don’t care about SW anymore. Why stay if you don’t care? Is it his voice? The lack of background music? Or is it the optimism on his end even though you would find it as him being a battered wife on your end? And even then he could report positive news about the franchise and you’d still find a way to make it a pity party on your end for attention. Thor doesn’t mind but if it was my channel, out you go as I don’t need apathetic hate watchers pretending to care.
Probably a middle finger but honestly think Kennedy is just blindly moving forward with her plan with no regard to the reality of the current state of the IP she was supposed to care about. She wanted a female directing Star Wars for a long time. And she is doing that no matter how unwanted the movie is or how unprepared the director is. She also probably thinks all things are fine for a Rey movie because the last movie made a billion. And thinks that the fandom is still a vocal minority. Kennedy’s goals once she got power wasn’t to make the brand better, it was to change the film industry in ways she thought it was lacking. But instead of slowly doing that and preparing people, she put people in positions they were not ready for and ultimately failed (they may have been ready at some other time).
@achaudhari101 You seriously haven't ever had a favorite franchise fall into the gutter before? You still keep tabs on what's going on because you are still in love with what it was. It's no different here for a lot of Star Wars fans.
As someone who wants the sequels erased, i am very happy people aren't positive about this movie.
I genuinely believe the ONLY way Star Wars can survive is for them to be erased from canon.
They only get worse with age. The more they try to fix them, the more worse they get and makes everything set before them not really matter. I can forgive the bad D+ shows, just for the love of the force get rid of the sequels.
Turns out Kylo is still alive, and he was a young Palpatine clone the whole time, willed into Leia's womb by Palpatine, who is the real Anakin, because Anakin was also a Palpatine clone willed into Shmi by Palpatine, whose real name is Panikin Skywalker.
LOL! Superb! :D
Something tells me that no matter how much backlash KK gets from this, she will suffer no repercussions.
My hope for this movie plummets with everything I hear about it, and I am a Rey fan.
And that will change nothing.
I gotta say, while I don’t understand Rey haters, I don’t really get Rey fans either. I just don’t feel that strongly about her either way I guess.
I’d be interested to hear what it is you like about her
I thought the Rey we saw on Jakku was pretty good-- plucky, making the best of a truly shitty situation, with a flash of genius for mechanical things and a good heart. It was when they turned her into a Mary Sue to whom everything came naturally without any struggle, that she shriveled into irrelevance.
Not trying to be a dick but why would someone be a Rey fan?
The sequel films should have been set several decades after ROTJ with a very old Luke and Rey as an orphan who studies under Luke. The sequels should also have featured Jacen, Jaina, Mara Jade, etc. I never accepted Ben Solo since Leia and Han's chlldren were already established in Legends.
Ben Solo just doesn't work on so many levels. Adam Driver is a great actor but he doesn't look like either CF or HF.
Palpatine was obsessed with continuing his life... unnaturally. They need to deliver on Dark Rey, possessed by Palpatine. It would bring some fans back. Quite frankly, I want to see her throwing lightning at 20 new Jedi in a battle.
The idea of Rey Palpatine has a lot of possibilities. Unfortunately, KK doesn't want Rey portrayed with that kind of depth. She has to be unflawed.
That wouldn't happen because then someone else would have had to train those Jedi. Honestly, I rather liked Rian Johnson's idea of the next films being centred upon the random boy at the end of The Last Jedi and Rey's daughter who has turned to the Dark Side, where the boy (now grown up) is the new champion of the light side and has to save the girl. That basic idea at least is plausible and we could have seen Rey in the position of a mother who does not understand her child and doesn't know how to save her - a flawed person.
This film - God knows what plot it will have - will have something like male fratboys starting a dark side club and Rey gathering a band of super lesbian and trans Jedi to stop them.
@@Wien1938 A boy saving a girl? In a Lucasfilm production in 2024? Impossible
@@tglake2894 Exactly. Can't have that - female empowerment etc.
The only way to fix this is to retcon the whole thing. Or at least retcon back to the beginning of Episode 8 and start with Luke and Rey both holding the lightsaber, then a montage of 8 and 9. Rey leaps back away from Luke who is holding the light saber and he Luke asks, "Did you see that?" Rey nods with trepidation. Luke stands straight and says, "We can't let that happen. Tomorrow we begin your training." THen they tell a good story without the Mary Sue, the Emperor coming back, real growth for Rey as a character, written by a real team that loves Star Wars, and a Director that loves the movies and story telling, NOT trying to make anyone uncomfortable. Also, kick Filoni that is all in on the Boss B*itch characters that break prior cannon.
Also, make Kylo and the knights of Ren scary. No BS love story.
I love your idea. The only way for me to accept the sequel movies.Make all three movies into a what if vision. Luke put her into a deep force trace. When she is snap back into reality. That is when the real movie starts. So everything that we thought we saw was a deep what if force vision. Doing this will be the last time they could actually give Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker a proper time with us and send off. But those clowns at LF are too afraid to think outside of the box.
Can we retcon back to halfway through 7? Like, the first half of 7 was really promising, then... it went downhill very fast.
Ooooo, dude, I would totally watch that. I was so mad they did nothing with the knights.
@@BittermanAndy They can keep everything in all three movies. That deep force vision will be a montage of it all. Rey truly believes that it's real. So when she comes out of that trance. All of what we actually saw did not happened. They don't have to show Chancellor Leia or han solo in this new movie. We know they are still alive. By keeping the main storyline on a grand master Luke and older rey. All they have to do is show a flash back to justify rey age. She has been training with luke for years. And both of them has been on a lot of different adventures together. My making this movie a little longer. They can build up the main villain so that they can truly justify and show the true death death of Luke Skywalker saving rey and those they came to save. All of this in one movie. Then the second movie can truly be rey centered with the fandom being behind her as a character. But it will take a bold leader who is not afraid to throw that hail Mary.
The only thing that would save Rey as a character is for her to be treated how Luke was treated in TLJ. I want her to be run through the mud, made pathetic and make her a total failure. Not only would this make her more endearing and relatable, but she also totally deserves to inherit Luke's legacy of failure.
Rey as a character isn't bad, it's the events around her. Unlike these new characters, her personality is fine.
@@darthbane3937 Rey is like Ichigo Kurosaki, they are too perfect and good that is impossible to related to them. The only thing that could save Rey is if they put her shades but that's never going to happen as long as KK still put her agenda on the films. Look what happened with Sabine in Ahsoka.
I wouldn't wish that on Rey, because I have nothing against the character (for all her movies faults, she herself has a decent personality) , the problem is the writing of her stories. Rey doesn't really come across as a feminist but the feminism of Kathleen Kennedy had a bad influence on her story, because she is a narcissist and feminists see every other woman as extensions of themselves, so Rey was overpowered as part of a self insert fantasy.
@@monicaaboites5053 I haven't seen Sabine since I finished watching Rebels (which was a surprisingly great show), what is she like in Ashoka?
@@johnnyjohn-johnson7738She gained very weak Force sensitivity out of the blue (something that was never installed in Rebels), was Ahsoka’s apprentice for a short while, then ended up mastering Force push at the end because the script demanded it at one particular point.
I suppose her being a trained Mandalorian and a skilled weapons engineer simply wasn’t OP enough? 🤨
I want to give this movie a fair chance, but they are making it really hard. I didn't like Rey but I preferred her to Kilo for example. I wanted this to be a fresh start. I don't think they want to make this a fresh start. I think they just want to antagonize the fanbase.
The only tiny "Rey" of hope for me is that this story is supposed to take place 15 year after the last movie. So it's possible (though I'm skeptical) that the time skip could act like an eraser on a whiteboard, and present us with a much different (and hopefully much improved) Rey.
The only way to redeem Rey at this point is to make her the villain
I don't think it's possible at hits point but it would be kinda funny, like rehash that last scene when Rey takes Luke's last name and then Luke's force ghost realises he was tricked all along and Rey's a trained Sith positioning herself to steal his position and legacy
Why would anyone think anything will get better before it gets worse.
Hay Thor, I'm a female Star wars fan and an older millennial. I have been a fan my entire life, because it was my escape from the difficult reality I grew up with. I was even teased and belittled for my love of Star Wars. The reason why I have become disillusioned with many of the recent creations by Disney is because it feels like the people who used to bully me about Star Wars are the ones making it now. It feels like they believe that the fans are too stupid and obsessed to realize the stuff they're making is garbage. As a result I'm not even sharing any of the new Disney Star Wars with my kids. All they have seen and experienced is the non-Disney. I personally feel no new Star Wars is better than what we're getting. What do you think?
A sadly common story.
Thank you for speaking up. I feel like the female SW fans need to let Disney know many... Most?... Of us do not care for their choices with character and story (such as they are).
As a woman of color, I didn't feel "empowered" or excited by the characters in the new movies. The writing was simplistic and the characters were flat.
I share your sadness and frustration. I hope more women will comment on your post...I want to understand what other female fans are thinking.
I'm a 30 year old woman and I consider myself a casual Star Wars fan. I say casual because I've only seen the movies (each one at least 10 times, except Disney SW), I haven't read anything or watched any series, and the only game I've played was the Episode III game that came out for the Play-Station 2. I grew up with the prequels and the OT at the same time, and I hate what they did with Solo and the ST. I don't hate Rey, I even was rooting for her at first, but Disney delivered so much damage to the franchise through her that I don't like her and I wouldn't watch her movie.
I like to think that the reason Rey is getting a solo film is because Kathleen Kennedy is trying to prove South Park wrong
For me it all comes down to how things unfold on screen. I wont financially support any future movies until they show me they understand what fans want ON SCREEN! Never been the type to read to much into the marketing jargon or actor/actress/director interviews leading up to a project, bc majority of the time they'll say something disappointing or questionable.
if they want a film that actually would peak the interest of many apathetic star wars fans, they should try making one centered around FIN. he had so much potential as a character, with a background entirely unique and never seen before in star wars. It offered some really interesting topics+character arc possibilities.
and hey, even if it sucked, i guarantee u we'd still like it infinitely more than any movie featuring Rey as the lead haha.
I don’t want to see Rey now and i love Rey but this director has really soured my view on things.
I’m not skeptical anymore im straight up scared of what will be done with Rey and maybe it’ll be good but when the director says stupid things don’t expect people like me (Rey fans) to be open to any sort of hype.
I just want a good story for Rey,is that not more important than making gentlemen feel uncomfortable?
I had high hopes for the sequel movies when I heard that Disney was starting on them. Even after the first movie came out, I had a positive attitude. I thought they had interesting characters and good actors, especially Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and Gwendoline Christie who were already established, and, of course, the stars of the original trilogy. The newcomers, especially Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, brought good chemistry to the screen too. The Force Awakens wasn't what I expected, and I had serious doubts about the direction they were taking the story. I was concerned that they threw out the ready-made and well loved follow up Thrawn trilogy that made sense, for the nonsensical "First Order" idea. They never really explained how we got from the end of Return of the Jedi to the Empire 2.0. It was taking the IP in a direction I wasn't sure was good, but I was willing to give it a chance.
Then Rian Johnson happened, and the train came off the tracks. J.J. Abrams tried to get it back on the rails, but the return of Emperor Palpatine, Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter, and the massive fleet of deathstar-esque ISDs at the end was just ridiculous.
They didn't start with a coherent story they wanted to tell and it showed. If they had known what the general plotline for the whole trilogy was from the start, the way George Lucas had mostly known what story he wanted to tell, they could have written a better character for Daisy Ridley to play. Rey was clearly intended to be THE main character, but they didn't even know who her character was when they started. Subsequent interviews have revealed that they were still trying to figure out if she should be a Skywalker, a Palpatine, or someone else entirely during the filming of Episode 9! How do you write a character, for 3 movies, without having ANY idea what their backstory is?! Daisy Ridley wasn't given much chance because the writers had no chance to get the character or her story right.
I have no interest in this new movie. I neither hope for it to flop, nor for it to succeed. Maybe Kathleen Kennedy gets canned after it bombs, be she has already done her damage. The nuke already has gone off and the big screen portion of the IP was at ground zero. Luckily the many serial shows are doing some heavy lifting carrying the IP (I have not watched Ahsoka because I am still working my way through the Clone Wars series and dont want to watch it until after I finish watching that and Rebels).
Anyway, I want a Darth Jar Jar alternate timeline project. If we are trying to piss off everyone in the fandom, let's bring that character back. Who knows how long Ganguns live for anyway? Jar Jar could still be around in the Rey timeline.
Like a month or 2 before they announced the Rey movie I text my buddies and said "Make Rey the villian" have her be a dark sith demi-god who is 'all the sith' since she killed palps luke he wanted. Have her slowly get more galactic respect and power as the new leader of the jedi order that she relishes, craves more of as she back stabs and betrays her friends to get more... and then they predictably announced that " no.. she's just gonna do what Luke couldnt" SMH
I have no inside info, no research to back this up. I just simply wonder (based on so much of what KK has said and done) if it is KKs ego that prompted this. I wonder if early in her career, maybe even life, she got slighted and has been on her agenda since. That she sees hiring this lady as a crusade she will see through and that she will come out the other end and when it’s all accepted by the general public she will be viewed as a woman who fought through adversity to win the day and is the reason woman are accepted now. Again I wonder if that’s her mindset. And I’m guessing she knows about the South Park episode and it didn’t sit well at all with her ego and she will triple down on whatever it takes. And of course the franchise has already paid the price for this.
Very clearly. She's always been a Hollywood insider, and it's an industry full of creeps in high places who are able to continue to abuse whoever they want because "what are you gonna do, make your own studio?" The problem has only gotten worse as the studios and their parent companies gobbled each other up in a race towards a monopoly. Little does she realize that she's become part of the problem.
I don't hate Rey or any ST characters, save for a few. I hate the way they were written; I hate that they had no arcs and were wasted in the worst way when they had so much potential. Instead of trying to rectify this issue, Disney is leaning hard into this "we're right and if you disagree, you're the problem" mindset. How is that supposed to make anyone happy? At this point, just burn money.
Hey Thor,
*Apologize in advance for the long read
I've been a lifelong Star Wars fan, growing up on Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network, and remember waiting each week for new episodes and even months for new seasons to come out. At that time Star Wars was simplistic. We had 6 Legacy movies, the Clone Wars animated and cartoon series, and then the EU, for those who were willing to dive deep into the Universe. When the sequels were announced I could not be happier to be able to live in a time to watch new Star Wars movie in the theater WHEN THEY RELEASED! TFA was mostly a rehash of ANH, with some very interesting concepts that could take the next two films into a new lively direction. Then came TLJ which I won't get into much here, but it utterly dissatisfied me to the point of apathy for the final film not only of the trilogy, but of the supposed Skywalker Saga. Rogue one was the only Disney Star Wars film I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, although my main complaint was poor pacing in the beginning and lack of development for some of the characters in the main cast. Solo was good not great, felt more like a checklist for Han's character background than anything. Why even make a movie on him, would've much preferred it to have not get made. Mando season 1 and 2 were great in my opinion; felt like live action clone wars with a big narrative arc for the season with some episodes being devoted to side missions or character development that would influence the overall plot later. Then BOBF came out and yikes, how did anyone let this happen. Then Obi-Wan and I said again yikes how did this get made from a multi-BILLION$ company. The acting and actors, awful writing, and some of the worst directing and cinematography I've ever seen from a production with a lot of money. Then Andor came out and I was BLOWN AWAY. The competency of the writing, characters being more than a cardboard cutout that most of the aforementioned films would TELL you they were awesome instead of SHOWING you, and letting the audience come to their own conclusions. Then Mando season 3 came out and it was more of the same from the BOBF and Obi-Wan series. And finally Ahsoka, wow was she my favorite character growing up watching the clone wars, now, not so much. No emotion, no care for anyone, no plan, and they manage to turn "Oh we've just doomed the ENTIRE GALAXY AGAIN" into "You did well Sabine". Nobody in that show acts human with any agency, nuance, or continuity. I've watched all these shows not because I'm a mega shill and want to consume every possible Star Wars content possible, but because, as a fan, I just was hoping to enjoy some great Star Wars. Only pieces of Star Wars content I recommend to people nowadays are the 6 LUCAS films, Both iterations of Clone Wars, Rogue One, and Andor. Disney Star Wars should never be confused with Star Wars (George's creation), for me with the announcement of the Rey movie is the final nail in the coffin. Disney Star Wars is dead.
TLDR: Let's get down to brass tacks; Disney Star Wars is failing. Diminishing returns for each subsequent movie in the trilogy, Solo bombing, and low D+ numbers for each show. People are going to tune into slop just because it has been branded with the Legacy IP of Star Wars anymore. Lucasfilm has got to create something that truly makes me want to take time out of my day to sit back and enjoy entertainment, not identity politics and real-world correlations that are melting into a galaxy FAR FAR AWAY.
My suggestion for Lucasfilm. Let Kennedy make one of the three films planned, either Rey movie, Filoni film, or Dawn of the Jedi. I'd put money down that any of them will BOMB at the box office because like for many, apathy has set in for the franchise, and to be quite honest, I don't care anymore. Then we can finally let Kennedy step down on her own terms and be done with her legacy. Halt all new projects planned, and put Star Wars in the vault for a good 5-10 years. Then come back swinging in a whole new era the reinvigorates the spark of seeing a galaxy far far away on the silver screen. I recommend the completely unexplored and untouched era of the Old Republic. From my point of view, that is the only way to save "Disney Star Wars", new leadership and a different FRESH direction for the franchise. But who knows, maybe ESG and DIE are more important for the House of Mouse than telling a good story.
Thanks for reading!
TL;DR: I couldn't have cared less when I very first heard Rey was going to be the main character in the Sequel Trilogy. I thought it would be fun and interesting to see a more grey, nuanced version of the Force now that the galaxy had balanced out and all the major Force users were either dead or not practicing anymore. The more I saw of her, though, the more I realized she was emblematic of everything Disney gets wrong about modern audiences and messaging.
In my opinion, when I heard Rey was going to be the Sequel version of Luke, I thought "that's kind of cool. I hope they let her grow into that role. Skywalker left some pretty big shoes to fill at the end of his trilogy."
Then I watched TFA, and everything in that movie annoyed me, except for three things:
Poe and Finn, pleasantly surprised me, I was hopeful we would see more shenanigans, perhaps an "Odd Couple" dynamic between the two of them in the following movies, perhaps even taking the place where Han and Chewie used to sit. Sadly, I was apparently the only one who would have enjoyed seeing the reigns of the Millenium Falcon passed down to a young hotshot pilot with a disregard for regulation but still a good heart and his reluctant but technical genius of a mechanic.
Rey. Oh boy, she sure was a character. No past to empathize with, no real presence to identify with, and no draw making us want to know more. She was at the same time the most boring character in the series, and the one to whom every advantage and power up and reverence was given, without ever once showing a grateful attitude or being respectful for the characters who built the legacy she stood on top of, or ever having to earn the powers she was simply given.
She really isn't worth my time, although i admit Star Wars to me is kind of like Dr. Who during the Jodi Whitaker days.
She is definitely not for me, though I think she must be TRYING to do something good with her place in the series. I think the next Star Wars production will be very much like the Dr. Who 60th anniversary specials, which cement just how much I never want to hear that name in my house again.
This whole Rey movie is a vanity project for Bob Iger because it's a C-Suite initiative. Bob is the one who ultimate sided with Kennedy and tossed George's outlines for VII-IX in the trash so this is part of his legacy and Bob is all about above all else securing his legacy so that is why he is backing this play because it's a last ditch effort to salvage the Disney Trilogy and Rey.
I would make a film in the old Expanded Universe (Legends).
It would also star a female protagonist, in that I’d have Gina Carano come back as the Legends variant of Cara Dune… with the film being about her and a squad of New Republic commandos taking down a critical target on Imperial Center (Coruscant) before the New Republic comes to actually liberate the planet from the Empire.
It would parallel the real-life mission of the 82nd Airborne in Normandy before D-Day, and this film would be “Star Wars” meets “Saving Private Ryan” and “Rambo (2009).”
It wouldn’t require the other Legends material to understand the context, but there would be a lot of Easter eggs and fanservice for perceptive viewers.
It wouldn’t be kid fare, with the violence being intense enough to warrant an R-rating; but it would be focused on telling a good story, first and foremost.
If the EU is ever allowed to continue as Legends, I don't want Disney polluting it. That means NO DISNEY CHARACTERS.
@@saberiandream316
Well, what if Legends could do their characters better? In this case, take a character Disney discarded and make a better version.
I could do the same with Finn, and have it fit into the continuity. Disney did that character dirty.
@@andrewgardiner1077 It's kinda insulting to me that after a ten-year absence, a return is marred by including a Disney character. If the EU returns, I want it as is, not rewritten and changed like Disney so often does.
@@saberiandream316
Well, this would be an operation that is part of the greater liberation of Coruscant, and wouldn’t interfere with the material that already came out… it would just show a piece of the puzzle from the viewpoint of a commando.
She’d get her orders from Generals Brenn Tantor and Rand Talor (commanders during the operation), one of the main antagonists would be Ysanne Isard, and it would involve thwarting the Empire’s plan to detonate a mass shadow generator on Coruscant… effectively preventing a “scorched earth” move by the Empire to ravage Coruscant rather than let the New Republic take it.
@@andrewgardiner1077 I must admit, IF it was Legends, I'd check it out. I flat-out refuse to watch or play or read anything isn't for the universe of the old EU. But Lucasfilm doesn't care about Legends. They've proven that for ten years.
I started watching Ms. Marvel just to get a sense of this director's style. There's some pretty cool shots in that show, I feel like she might make a good film. It just sucks all this activism is taking center stage instead of the directors merits

No one "loves" Rey.
At best, they love what she represents in a meta sense.
I love R34 Rey!
It's so strange to have to wonder about the motivations and goals of a person who is in charge of one of the most beloved storytelling universes ever. I wish it was possible to just sit down and talk with KK human being to human being (without all the nonsense that comes with being a high-ranking member of a massive corporation) to figure out what she's feeling, why she's doing what she's doing, and if she is intentionally trying to sabotage the product she is in charge of.
Poor Daisy Ridley. She was probably so excited just to be in TFA (not knowing that JJ & KK intended for her to be the lead the entire time), and now she's the butt of almost every criticism toward the sequel trilogy. She seems like such a nice lady too lmao
I’ve been trying to describe Rey’s character, and the only thing I could come up with is that she automatically gains the knowledge and abilities she needs to get to the next scene.
The problem with the anticipated Rey storyline - if it is indeed to focus on Rey rebuilding the new Jedi order - is that it's basically stealing Luke's story just for the sake of giving it to a female character. In the extended universe (now declared non-canon by Disney) Luke was already doing this. He'd been on that journey. He'd earned that story. Fans saw this and like where it was going and looked forward to seeing it come to life onscreen. Then we get the whole thing torn down and reshaped in almost identical form but only to pander to social messaging.
People who have a problem with Rey doing this are not angry that she's a female character. They have a problem with the fact that casting her in this role feels completely unearned. She's basically a Dollar Store Luke Skywalker, following a Dollar Store retread of Luke's planned story. Rey brings nothing new to the table. In fact, she brings far less to the table than her predecessor in almost every respect, except perhaps the negative baggage that her character attracts.
Wow, you're right. I feel bad for Daisy Ridley. No wonder Adam Driver and John Boyega refuse to return.
How possibly is KK still in charge? Serious question.
Because maybe what we hate so much comes down to Disney decisions, not her. Hard to say, isn't it?
She's under contract. Her contract is about to be up. I think that's why she's pushing this Rey movie so hard. This will be the culmination of KK's Star Wars vision. I say let her make it and let it bomb. Things will change after that.
@@bchristian85 Disney could have canned her contract in 2021. They did not do that. They are NOT doing that this year unless Kennedy wants to go. Get that through your head, there's no "civil war" at Lucasfilm, and if there _is,_ then Filoni's NOT on the side you think he is, and never was.
The last copy of the Christmas special is her horcrux.
Blackmail... my guess
I watched the christmas lego star wars animation on Disney plus last year and had a double take when everyone was talking and bantering with each other. For a scene or two discussing putting a party together, these plastic lego figures interacted like they were real people, like they had chemistry between them and liked hanging with eachother. It just made me think I could really like these characters. I wanted to really like these characters. Honestly just allowing them to be an ensemble cast and not splitting them up all the time would have done wonders. That scene where Poe and Finn get to know eachother in a TIE fighter was probably the best scene in the trilogy for me. Then again they did stick together for most of 9, so I guess you need good banter writing as well.
This is not just her being antagoniistic, this is coming directly from a state of resentment and malice.
The problem is that I dislike the entire new canon. The sequels are categorically terrible imo, but even the other material isn't good. The aftermath jakku stuff, operation cinder, the badbatch's handling of the clones and rise of the empire is all so brain-dead dumb that I just don't consider them canon in my head. For a good Star Wars, things would have to be rebooted to pre-disney purchase, and that's just unfeasible. The only new material that has been enjoyable was the last clone wars season, but even that was half filler. plus the brainchip story device was something that always rubbed me the wrong way, it ruins the "soldieriness" of the clones. Plus honestly I feel that long term, and I mean like 50-100 year long term, only the og 6 movies will be remembered as America's great Epic, the other stuff is really all side stuff and fan extra.
Hey Thor, lately i've been thinking about how JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson went against George Lucas's lore in Star Wars. JJ said in an interview with Slashfilm that he didn't believe in midichlorions and said that the Force was a power anyone can achieve just by believing in it and it's not based on how many midichlorions you have. I am aware of the 'Karate' quote from George, but it is worth noting that was taken from 1981 and i don't think that was ever implied in the prequels, so I think it's possible he may have changed his mind over time. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think George has said anything lately to support the 'Karate' quote and I'd argue that if it wasn't referenced recently and if his films, the prequels, contradicted it, then the quote is no longer relevent. Anyway, as for Rian, his definition of balance was equal light and equal dark, which goes against what George established in the prequels, where it's the very presence of the Sith that causes unbalance. I have this sneaking suspicion that JJ and Rian chose not to reach out to George Lucas for his input on their ideas, because they both knew he'd say 'no'. I think if you are going to adapt or continue someone else's work, or add something new, it needs to abide by these two things: 1. Don't contradict anything the creator established. 2. It has to be met with the creator's approval. Sure, it is likely reaching out to George didn't cross JJ or Rian's minds, but either way it shows they should not have been involved with Star Wars. They had no right to just do whatever they wanted.
What is the Karate quote?
@kimmccarthy7747 "Like yoga. If you want to take the time to do it, you can do it; but the ones that really want to do it are the ones who are into that kind of thing. Also like karate."
Hey Thor, I’ve been getting into the canon books recently and have read a lot of the one offs and trilogies. But since you read everything, I was wondering what you think of the High Republic era and if you would recommend reading it? I’ve considered it, but it’s a lot of books to get into. Thanks in advance.
If KK should be out by now there is one thing. Filoni and Favreau make really good stuff for the Disney canon that makes money. So KK could be staying around by sort of pulling a Lord Adraas on Ord Radama tactic and taking credit for something that wasn’t really hers.
I think if it doesn't do well then Kennedy is gone for sure and I think the sequels will be thrown out of cannon eventually
Lol nope. She'll never be fired. She'll ride off into the sunset with praise from the company.
The amount of people online saying "I don't hate women, I hate poorly written characters" is overwhelming at this point. Yet, Disney is doubling down on the rhetoric saying the fanbase is being sexist. The decision to proceed with that PR strategy makes absolutely no sense to me. Why berate the people you're trying to sell media to? Has anyone online come out saying they hated Rey simply because she was a woman? Has anyone lauded her as a deep robust character with an interesting story arc?
Seems like Disney is shooting themselves in the foot by repeatedly calling their viewers sexist to me.
Exactly this!!!! While there are too many chuds in this comment section for anyone's health, THIS point right here is worth digging through the deluge to promote!! Anakin threw away everything he had built for himself twice to try and save literally ONE member of his family! Luke got tortured and would have died had Vader NOT turned back to try and save his father, if nothing else you can easily see how the previous main characters had a love of family. What does Rey love?? After 3 movies what can I say she loves? Maybe Han? But he died in her first movie, and she seems pretty chill gettin all kissy kissy with his murderer. Maybe she loves Kylo? She sure was trying to stab him to death like 35 minutes ago though. Honestly she feels like Steve Urkele if his actions had consequences and the Winslow's were the Solo's. That's the best stretch of a "found family" story as I can find with her.
Interesting what you say about Rey.
I completely disliked the character of Riversong in the 11th Doctor's era of Doctor who.
Despite a great introduction with the tenth doctor, When she was a mainline character with the eleventh doctor she seemed overpowered, irritating, and abrasive, setup more to just be awesome at everything including her origins, than to be a real character.
Then in the Big finish audios, she started appearing, and she changed.
She was still awesome, but much less powerful, she was faced with situations where she showed real courage under fire, she got to demonstrate her skills as an archaeologist, rather than just have random powers that let her succeed at everything, and in short I ended up completely doing a 180 on the character.
While I am still not crazy about most of her tv appearances, if she turns up in an audio story or other place, I don't instantly recoil, and she's now someone I genuinely like.
Ironically, I dislike Rey far less than I initially disliked Riversong.
I don't find her annoying, I just find her bland and hard to connect to, and my irritations with the character are more to do with her stamping on Luke Skywalker's legacy and learning nothing.
If a Rey film came out where Rey had to struggle and grow as a person, which respected Luke Skywalker, heck, have Luke as a force ghost playing a mentor roll similar to Obi Wan, I could see myself genuinely coming round to appreciating Rey as a character.
But that was never likely to happen, and with this director pushing her misandrist, dogmatic, men bad, women good, agenda, it's even more never likely to happen!
Indeed, I wasn't planning on seeing the Rey film, but now after this Director's comments, I'm doubly! not planning to see the Rey film!
This is why I love your channel thor you are always a trustworthy source of information that is both coolheaded and logical. I hate what Disney has done to Star Wars, but I am always willing to give a new story a try, I will not even humor that idea for a Rey movie which I see as a intentional act of spite based off of KK actions and this new directors comments. I just don’t give a damn anymore to fight them.
It feels worth clarifying that as a Middle-Eastern feminist journalist, her comments about making men uncomfortable likely isn't meant for American Star Wars fans. Feminism is very much needed in many parts of the world, and many men do need to see themselves in that kind of work and be made uncomfortable.
Just feels worth adding.
Knowing how the feminists in Lucasfilm (including some of the male writers and actors who are self hating men) act towards male Star Wars fans, I am not going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Who knows maybe she isn't as bad as she's crack up to be, but knowing modern Lucasfilm she was most likely hired out of spite.
@johnnyjohn-johnson7738 Maybe, I just think context for the entire picture is important, because her comments do make much more sense in that context.
@@chaosheaven23 Yeah they do, but with Disney's track record, I wouldn't be surprised if she also has this mentality towards male SW fans, or if the execs tell her "I can feel your anger. It gives you focus, makes you stronger" and that kind of thing. I'm a woman, and they are achieving the opposite they claim to want to achieve.
@@user-is7xs1mr9y Disney is definitely weaponizing the Dark Side for their results!:P
At this point, Star Wars is a youtube-only property for me now. As in, I’m only interested in watching content about it on channels like these.
That’s kinda stupid on your end and you know that’s not true at all.
@@achaudhari101👎👎👎👎. He’s not wrong tho
Absolutely agree
@chasehedges6775 Actually he is wrong because he knows there’s actual stuff in Star Wars that would be watched by him like Andor. This is just defeatism/hate watching garbage on his end both with the franchise and the channels on CZcams. Don’t get me wrong Chase, I still find it just as bad on your end as well.
@@achaudhari101 Bro stfu, you're always coming into Thor's comments with these garbage-ass takes
All the hiring decisions Kennedy has made for Lucas Films is destroying her reputation as a producer. When she was installed it was with the promise that she knew Star Wars and was a competent person who knew how to build a team that could build on the Legacy of George Lucas. But with each new person hired it is clear she is either in a bubble, lost her touch, or was never the competent producer Kennedy was presented as to fans.
My dream teaser trailer for the next Star Wars movie:
.
Revan is standing on the bridge of a starship, observing images of every major and minor character from the whole of DSW on display. He then leans toward a figure standing beside him and quietly says, "Indulge yourself".
HK-47s occular receptors then start to glow noticeably brighter.
.
Yeah, that could spark some creative energy.
Part of me wonders if these companies intentionally try to provoke their fans so people get mad and talk about it on sites like Twitter. Negative discussion generates a lot more press than positive.
Honestly that theory about Disney trying to find a good reason to fire Kennedy, even if unlikely, is something I’ve never considered and doesn’t feel that far off honestly
Yeah, I was thinking that if this movie does turn out to be a turd, the best criticism of it would be absolute, apothetic silence.
So I looked up Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and it’s true about some of the things she has said, but they are being taken out of context and from very old interviews in some cases. But I looked up her talking about Star Wars and found nothing about how she loves it or is a fan or anything. Just her talking about women empowerment. Let’s have a female director, but please someone who loves the franchise and is qualified for a movie of this scope. This is a very bad look. It wouldn’t have been that hard for her to positively talk about Star Wars at least.
Yeah, I mean Bryce Dallas Howard is right there.
In all fairness, Drinker brought up that fact that when she said she likes to make men uncomfortable, it was in reference to her documentary where men were abusing women.
Disney Writer: I know instead of following the normal "The Hero's Journey" pattern I'll go with the Bechdel Test instead
After over 10 years of this crap; honestly it be better to just let Star Wars go and let it die under Disney.
Don't even give Disney the reaction they want, good or bad.
As I already said, the Disney Trilogy was already apocrypha when they stopped following a Skywalker. Those films don't deserve the 7, 8, & 9 numbering.
Because a Saga is a series of Stories that FOLLOWS a Family Line. When you stop doing that, it's no longer a Saga.
But you know, a lot of people don't understand what certain words mean.
Reylo: follow a family line? But...but she's Rey Skywalker.
With all due respect... how many "one more/last chance" are we going to give realistically? This latest move with Rey movie with this activist Director who is not a filmmaker at all outside of Documentaries... is this not a sign of spitting in your face, and we keep saying..."Maybe this time... they'll change?!" this is a really abusive and toxic relationship
Better than tanking everything out of spite like the Grifters online.
@@achaudhari101I don't know what you mean... Please tell me you are not blaming bad movies on YT critics... Good bad or otherwise.
@@achaudhari101
The fans aren't the ones tanking the franchises, it corporation lmao
@@jspaingreene6350 Both sides can be a problem to movies. One side can fuck things up BTS, the other can hate a movie and not be objective while saying “It’s woke” and a lot of their followers will take that to heart.
As much as I hate to say this the sequels will never be remove due to it being the last performances by Carrie fisher and Harrison ford. So we might as well let go of that hope
If I were in charge of Star Wars I would:
1: Fire KK
2: Relegate everything post 2008 to an alternate universe (AU) canon, making the “old” EU the main canon again. Comic and book writers could still make material for AU canon.
3: Create a third timeline (CCWT) where old EU and TCW (Minus season 7) are canon, with a list of which takes precedence for each contradiction.
4: Tell Filloni he could finish the Mando verse, but he’d have to do it in either two seasons or a season and a movie.
5: Make a movie that’s a straight adaptation of Labyrinth of Evil. If this is successful create more movies based on books set during or before the Clone Wars. A Qui-Gon/Obi Wan movie before episode 1 would be awesome.
6: Do the same for Heir to the Empire. Have Zhan onboard the project. Would have to recast the original main characters, but would bring back any living OT members to help coach and approve their replacements. If this is successful make the rest of the Thrawn trilogy as the new sequels.
7: Do everything in our power to get the OG Battlefront III remade and released and find a developer to make a clone wars era version of Rouge Squadron. It would be based on the main canon/EU clone wars rather than the 2008 one.
I really like Rey after the first film and Daisy is a great actress. But I have no desire to see whatever they are coming up with. I'll keep an open mind, but I'm not hopeful.
Hey Thor, I think you might be missing the point she was trying to make in that clip when she say she wants to make men uncomfortable
Women feel uncomfortable all the time in day to day life because of the way society lets some men behave and she uses her films to try to make men feel that discomfort and maybe make them question their own or friends actions
Ask Naboo how she'd feel walking alone at night in a run down neighbourhood and then hears someone walking behind her, a man might worry about being mugged but a woman is worrying about something way worse
Now I'm not saying she is a good fit for Star Wars but the clip is being touted around like the Rian Johnson clip but I don't think that is what this clip is
She's projecting the behaviour of Pakistani men onto western men, who can be generalised as porn addicts and a lot of them are sleazy, but very few are as predatory as the average Pakistani man.
Because of the way "some men behave" all men should be made to feel uncomfortable watching a Star Wars movie? I mean, if you're a man, would you ever do something unspeakable to a woman? Would you condone any man that did? I'm guessing (like most men) you wouldn't; you would want them locked up or worse for doing something like that to a women. So why should you in anyway be held (in a sense) responsible for those actions when you have no control over them and find them despicable? And what about women who do horrible things to men? Should all women have some level of blame for that?
@@thorskywalker your right in it should have no place in Star Wars but it's a clip taken out of context from a 8 year old interview that's all. Just because a clip of Rian Johnson was unearthed of him wanting to split an audience and then did with Star Wars doesn't mean this clip means she intends to too.
In both videos I've talked about the clip I've mentioned its age and that it's not said in relation to her Star Wars movie. That said, it's hard to believe someone who has devoted their professional life to this issue would not infuse it into what will (almost without question) be the largest audience she will ever have in her life... that being a Star Wars movie.
@@thorskywalker You might be right and if you are Star Wars will be lost but I will say it's not quite the same as with Johnson since she is only director not writer-director.
The guy who wrote Peaky Blinders, Taboo and See is writing. I understand the fears but as much as Ms. Marvel was very much a meh series the episodes she directed weren't just a bench of woke nonsense so maybe she can keep her journalistic and fictional directing separate. I do have to admit she hasn't done herself any favors with the "it's about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away" quote either but she'll be shaping the story written by a man
This is a very nice and nuanced take. Good job! 👍
I feel sorry for daisy ridley… her career didn’t take off like she surely hoped after the sequels and now she’s being put directly at the epicenter of what will be a PR disaster.
she should seriously hire a new agent
The only way they could've saved Rey, is by subverting expectations, and making the story about a powerful male hero.
Rey gets to be the doe-eyed damsel in distress, who is repeatedly saved from disaster by Chad Skywalker.
At the end of the movie, she becomes his supportive tradcon wife, and focuses on raising their kids.
From what I've been hearing in the past couple of days, this entire thing has been looked over by the powers at Disney who are not happy with anything about it. I was told that more would be coming so will keep my ears open.
This movie is going to be a funeral.
I'd like to see them make a good story with Rey.
