The brutal far north: in today's episode of the vlog, I start my Tesla journey of Scotland's now-famous road trip - the North Coast 500. The #NC500 tours one of the best driving roads in Scotland, starting and ending in Inverness. In our second leg of the tour, we leave Dornoch and head toward John O Groats, stopping first at the amazing Castle Sinclair Girnigoe near Wick.

😬 Game of Thrones’ Finale is tonight, but want to learn about an even crazier, real life story from the place in today’s vlog? I wrote about it here: www.patreon.com/posts/26973333
Found out the main reason why GoT is ending so soon and so dramatically.... showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff were offered a chance to work with Disney while they were working on Game of Thrones...if they weren't working on GoT. That's the ENTIRE reason why they ended the show at the 8th season and rushed to wrap it up so fast. *eyeroll*
Shaun how long have you been married for
Ooft! I can't wait for the final episode of GOT, I wonder how it'll all end! Btw, I really enjoyed this latest vlog of your NC500 series and i really liked that you added some story narration in the B-roll footage. What a beautiful country we live in! Can't wait to see what you get up to next!
I'm hoping all the house folks kill each other off,
leaving BRONN to be king uncontested
Thank goodness.
0:43 it's Dunnet Head which is the furthest north you an go...
Gorgeous! The drone footage let’s you get the full effect of the castle perched high on the rocks peering down at the crystal clear blue water. Out of this world scenery! Shaun, you knocked this one out of the park! Great vlog! 🏰 ❤️🏴❤️
Thank you Carrie, I'm so glad you like it :)
I made it to the Stones of Stenness during my 30 hours on the Orkney mainland...
Even though I stayed too long and ran out of good daylight before I could hike over to Brodgar, the sublime majesty of that ancient site was truly unforgettable.
🌌
I agree with you about the Castle. And was great to hear the history on this one. Glad you sent the drone up great view.
Thank you Brenda :)
Florida has an Inverness, not that you asked.
Another thing, in the US, we used to have a gas/petrol company named Sinclair. A brontosaurus was it's icon.
Great music!
Beautiful ruins and hotel room!
Thank you Clara. What is Inverness FL like?
So does Birmingham AL.
There's also an Inverness in California, a bit north of SF. A tiny, quiet town on a bay. (I doubt they're big enough to have four and twenty virgins.)
@@josephcote6120 Aye i loved singing that song Joseph.
Inverness is small town in North-Central Florida, we go fishing in the area (Lake Panasoffkee). It's just north of where I live in Florida.
The Withlacoochee River runs past it and feeds a bunch of lakes the town is based on. It used to be a "close your eyes" as you drive through it and you'll miss it, kind of place.
It used to be a ranching and phosphate mining town which was surrounded by orange groves and fish camps.
This video left me in absolute awe! You captured some spectacular visuals. I had goosebumps the entire time watching this, especially because of the great choice of music. You’ve done it again, Shaun! Amazing job!
Thank you so much Olivia, i truly appreciate it :) have a great week
Aww you too :)
I have to tell you how muh this trip means to me. I am in a wheelchair and cannot walk or stand. I can hardly ever leave my house, so leaving it this way, virtually is everything.
Marla Hudgins......I no longer travel either, for different reasons. But CZcams travels are the best, especially these days with HD video quality. It's fun to go all over the world, isn't it? And no airport hassles or expensive hotel bills!
You're so right. We are able to go International with no passport too
There is a way for you to take an overseas trip if you try and research enough. there are more and more wheelchair accessible places in the world. You would need a nurse and a valet to travel with you.
Great drone footage. Don't know how it stays up with the wind. Great job!
Great video Shaun. Love this series
My family from the mountains of North Carolina have a connection to Scotland since our heritage is Scotch Irish, McElrath part of the McDonald clan.
Its amazing to me that the rock like walls now popular today originated in places like this. So majestic!
Its amazing to me how much stone there is in Scotland. So many walls and Castles. The scenery is spectacular.
Thank you so much for always making great videos shawn! The castle and watching the coast line around the castle was absolutely breathtaking! Many blessings to you and your wife. Safe travels as well!
This is freaking amazing.
So glad you like it :)
A really great footage with the drone , and a interesting history of the castle , I love so much Scotland, appreciate your content ❤️
thank you Simon i appreciate it :)
Love-Love-Love the footage of the castle!!!🤩
I fukn love the views and the drone cam! Thanks for the knowledge..
Wonderful video! I plan on doing something similar next time I'm in Scotland. I love the Open Access Code. Just another example of how wonderful Scotland is. If I could move there tomorrow, I would. 💝🙏
Me too
So glad that you're taking this trip and brining us along! Very informative!
Could not have asked for a more perfect day! What gorgeous weather! Thank you Shaun! Loving this series! 💕
The red cars was just too funny!
So much fun traveling with you =) Thank you for this series. Please keep it up.
Loving your road trip Shaun! This video is amazing. Beautiful scenery! Keep up the great work. Blessings 😊
You are getting to see some really incredible places. Really appreciate the drone footage. Its beautiful. Looking forward to your next adventure!
Words cannot describe how awesome you are dude. Never change and do what makes you happy. I always look forward to a new upload and I keep those notifications on! Have a good day my man.
What a fantastic place!! And the castle!! Awesome!!! Love the video. Totally enjoying these!! I'm a dedicated armchair traveler!! Thank you.
What an amazing journey and beautiful place to live. I've always wanted to visit this area.
Incredible video the scenery was something for the off the beaten path traveler would love to experience. Thanks for Sharing.
If you like castles, you should come down south and go to Warwick Castle. Though, to be fair, Castle Sinclair looks stunning in its situation and backdrop.
Shaun it’s beautiful, and the countryside is simply, simply amazing
Great day for a vlog. Breathtaking views thanks brother.
Wonderful job as tour guide, Shaun! Thanks for taking us with you. Love the colorful buildings - this does make us want to visit Scotland to see it all first-hand!
Wow! Breath taking! That’s so awesome that you guys have the right to roam. Nice music too
Beautiful place! Awesome video. It is baffling to try and wrap my head around how old the castles in Scotland and Ireland are. Just got back from two weeks in Ireland. What an incredible trip and also a beautiful place and people were so nice. Scotland is on the list to travel too. My gratitude to you Shaun for the great videos. Thanks!
Just needs a roof and ready to go!!! Thank you Shaun. I did not know I have Scots blood in me, a DNA test told me and my Scots ancestors are buried in South Carolina where they arrived from Scotland ( I can honestly go see their graves), loving Scotland. Life is so crazy. I was told all about my Irish roots, so I went to Ireland to see my mom side of the family. Dad's is from Scotland but they have been dead a very long time. Wish my Dad was alive, he never knew. The ancestors must have come over around the Jacobite times. I don't know why the hell I am telling you this. Scotland is so beautiful!!!!
thanks so much for the comment, fascinating to know about your ancestry :)
Absolutely beautiful Shaun! I love castle ruins! Great drone shots also! Thanks for taking me on this journey! I'll get to the bonus stuff after GoT! Thank you!
I can’t believe people can just cock about in such a historic landmark. You couldn’t do that in the states. Excellent vid!
Yeah, to be fair this one's quite remote and i guess very difficult to manage
Scotland has different rules compared to the US IfixPCs , you live in the land of the free , but here in Scotland it really is free to travel and see , that is why we Scots love our Country.
They're better people than we are. 😜😍
@@shaunvlog they dontcareabout taking care of landmarks up hereitsdisgusting they should never let castles fall to ruin
Awesome video and such great music to go with it!!
This was yet another great episode! Thank you so much for sharing your vlog with us, it makes me look forward to my trip even more!
Thank you Frank i really apreciate it :)
I love the music you had while exploring the castle.
Such an exciting trip! Love it. Thanks for sharing, Shaun.😔
Thank you so much for all that you share in your videos regarding Scotland. My maternal ancestors are from there and it's really nice to see since I can't be there in person... YET! 😉 Thank you again, from South Florida, USA.🌞👍😊
Spectacular scenery and story of he castle, love your series. Thank you for sharing your trip. I hope you have a great week!
thank you Kathy, glad you enjoy it. You too :)
I feel like you’re my own personal tour guide! Since I’ll probably never make it there myself, I appreciate the all the beautiful footage. I can dream can’t I?
Very interesting video! Thanks so much! Cool castle and amazing views! I love 💕 the ocean! 😊💕👍
Stunning drone footage matched with thrilling music! Gave me goosebumps. Now I want to watch Braveheart and Outlander! I can’t wait to see more footage! I only wish you had shown the sunset with the drone...
Keep the amazing history lessons and fantastic footage coming!!
I am adding more to my bucket list like i never imagined!! Thanks, Shaun!!💙🏴🇺🇸💙
Well worth the journey, thank you Amy :)
The music is perfect! I like ruins and intact castles. The ruins are strangely beautiful, but I have trouble envisioning them as they once were, so need the real thing. As for walking on private land, leave it like you found it.
Great video Shaun!! Can't wait to see the Orkney Islands!!
I just now had the chance to watch this portion of the trip. Castle Sinclair filled me with such an overwhelming sense of sadness and loss that I could barely watch. I don't think I could ever visit. The psychic pain was too intense. I'm glad you ended the day on a much happier note.
Doesn't look all that brutal to me! LOL Man, y'all lucked out with the weather being so fantastic! I love this video, Shaun. I love the content, I love the drone video and I love the background music. Great job! I can hardly wait until next Sunday! Keep 'em coming.
Brilliant and engaging as ever. Amazing cinematography, love the drone shots --> breathtaking! Perfect soundtrack as well, whole thing together gave me chills. The sheer beauty and calamitous history of Scotland is incredibly emotive. So entertained by the Shaun-style narration, as always. 🙄 I'd have to take notes while watching to have any hope of remembering all the facts and tales. Your video tours are going to increase tourism to the area (just like Herself!) 🙄
Adding this to my bucket list! Sheesh... such beauty! Thanks for sharing another great vid, Shaun! ^_^ Hope all is well with you and your loved ones.
thanks so much, you too. Glad you enjoyed it :)
Wow, such a beautiful drive and gorgeous drone views. Thank you for sharing.
SO glad you like it :)
I've watched a number of your videos and really liked both of the NC500 videos. Scotland, from what you've shown so far, is absolutely beautiful! This series made me subscribe to your channel. I'm looking forward to seeing more travel videos, whether it's the UK and/or other parts of the world. Well done!
Ellen Contreras thank you Ellen, great to have you here 🙌
Wow ! That's a beautiful place. Thanks for taking us there. Lovely!
Cheers really glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you so much for the tour of the ruins of the Sinclair castle and the stunning scenery. Hi to Teka. Have her on more.
Fab drone footage of a spectacular castle ruin!..the water was sumptuous looking, probably icy cold, but what a stunning blue/green! and clear as crystal 💙
glad you liked it - the water was crazy clear
FABULOUS !!!! IT'S MY " TO SEE LIST " NOW !!! :DDD
Dronie gives me life! This is a spectacular series, Shaun, well done!
Thank you really glad to hear it :)
I could just imagine the history and artifacts you would find in the surrounding area of the castle!
Woo Hoo!!! Castle Sinclair!!!
Can I like this one twice? ❤️❤️❤️ Very nice, Shaun 🏰
Wow absolute Beautiful. One of the clans clan Sinclair fought against during the time they occupied the castle was my clan from the Sutherland area tounge Clan MacKay
Really enjoying this mini series. Great vlog as always Shaun! :)
thank you, i appreciate it :)
Thank you so much for this. I have dreamed about Scotland since I was a kid and saw a movie about Mary Queen of Scots lol. It is so much more beautiful than I could ever have imagined.
Thank you Beth really appreciate it. Hope you get to see it
Once again outstanding footage, Shaun! If you were near Sinclair lands then you were fairly close to Kildonan and Kildonan Kirk of Clan Gunn. The Gunns we're allies to the Sinclairs and the Sutherlands.
Castle Sinclair Girnigoe is at the top of my bucket list. I have dreamed of taking the very walk you did. Thanks for the vlog of my clans castle.
-An American Sinclair
Oh Shaun, since I found your channel I can’t stop watching your videos about Scotland and the Highlands in particular! It’s just so fascinating and full of history, these views and castles make me feel like we could actually see and imagine how people of the time would live there, with all the stories and secrets and battles…my goodness, I can’t wait to see with my own eyes these amazing places!🏴❤️ …watching Outlander made me fall in love with Scotland and the Highland even more!
What’s the title of the song you used for the scenes of the castle? I had goose bumps!!
Big hugs to you from Switzerland!!
Continue to produce this quality, and I'm confident you'll get a sponsor for the US trip. Fantastic drone work. I appreciate when you pause on the signs, so I can pause the video and read the signs.
Cheers Shawn glad you enjoyed it :)
Loving this Shaun- heading to highlands this summer for some Glencoe adventures in July! Your videos are such an inspiration to awesome & engaging story telling-sending sub love from Toronto Canada! 🇨🇦
The drone footage is amazing! 19°C/66°F is still rather cool. Today, at 7pm it's 27°C/82°F. Hope you get some of the same weather you had last year. 💥 😎
Stunningly done and way too cool. America simply doesn't have the history you have and I'm grateful 🙏 you are sharing these timeless, haunting beautiful monuments. Looks s little windy! Toppe away 😁
Thanks Elizabeth really glad you liked it :)
The more I see of Scotland it really shows me why they decided to settle in west North Carolina and East Tn. They look so similar where fields are concerned and the weather is close identical. I hope to see more wooded areas so I can compare those as well. Keep up the good work old top
Such a lovely trip! Thanks for sharing.
*I found your channel today and I'm very happy to be a part of it. Thanks a lot!*
*Ps: I'm from Brazil!* 💙💚💛
Pablo Althaus muito obrigado Pablo e bem vindo 😊🇧🇷🏴
Excellent! Makes me want to invest the time into learning to pilot a drone! I'd be afraid of losing it until I got a BUNCH of practice.
Great video. Reminds me of my visit to Dunnottar Castle.
I just posted your video to the Scotland group in Facebook....woith thousands of members hupefully they will subcribe.
Greetings from Montana! Your vid deeply stirred the soul of this Clan Donald descendent. Makes me so proud of my ancestry. Thank you! Alba gu brath!
thank you, really glad you liked it :)
Love your videos man. Recently found them and subscribed instantly.
cheers man good to have you here!!!
Wow! So awesome! I would love to visit Scotland!
Spectacular drone footage! I really enjoyed this video Shaun. Definitely a place to spend some time while in Scotland. Thanks much Shaun! Blessings always. 💜
really glad you enjoyed it. this is a region i've spent almost no time in but it's worth the ride
@@shaunvlog it sure looks beautiful! Definitely a place to see in my book if you're wanting some peace and rest. Great video! 😊
Absolutely beautiful, thanks for sharing!!!
Lo e your videos man. Recently found them and subscribed instantly.
Mr Winning Smith cheers man, thanks for joining in, great to have you here 👍
Reminded me of Long Way Down with Ewan MacGregor (sp?) But I loved learning more about the place in your video!
Wow! I will likely never make it to Scotland, but visiting the North of Scotland and the Orkney islands is on my wish list. II'd like to see all the ancient stone works and old castles like the one you visited in this video. I'd also like to visit some related family sites like Ravenswath (Clairborn castle?) While I'd like to see the typical restored historic places, sights like Sinclair Castle interest me far more. I'd like to track down the sight of my husbands great great granny McLaughlin's chocolate shop in Greenoch, close to Glasgow I believe. Ah, live it, and enjoy it for those of us who can't.
I'm enjoying that drone you got.
Those cliffs are amazing!!
If you ever do this type of thing again, but in the states, I recommend taking the PCH 1 highway in California from bottom to top. The one is so very diverse, you’ll go from desert regions to mountain, and it’s a coastal highway
Epic drone footage man.
I am loving your road trip of Scotland.
BREATHTAKING 💙 Loved the beautiful bagpipe music you played! Would be awesome if you could do a mini Clan series on the side, as you travel Scotland?...For example, *Shaun in Trossachs-home of Clan MacGregor* or "Shaun in Sterling-home of Clan Kincaid." You could do a separate 5 min video with mini history of each Clan (common surnames-fun facts, etc.) while you are in the different areas of Scotland. You could upload 2 videos at a time that way (the travel one youre doing now PLUS a short one on family Clans) & attract more viewers! Genealogy & history buffs too!
There are tons of people here in the U.S. that are devotees of their Celtic culture as their only way of feeling they belong somewhere-to a people & to a culture.
People of most other countries in the world live where their ancestors have been for a thousand years so they have a sense of cultural identity. Here in America we crave that feeling of belonging, especially we people of Celtic descent. Its in our blood.
Shaun! My heart is so happy that you visited castle Sinclair! They are my ancestors, and I'm so proud. Thank you!
Thank you Ally, i wrote a little about the fascinating story of the earl: www.patreon.com/posts/castle-sinclair-26973333
@@shaunvlog it's a fascinating story indeed. If you are up to it, you should look up Arthur St. Clair. He was a Scottish-American major general in the American revolution. He was close with George Washington and had much success in battle... but one defeat (in which he was given little resources and chose to save the lives of his troops) kinda scarred his reputation... but despite that he was a really interesting man! Neat Scottish American history.
the castle was spectacular!!! Scotland is beautiful!!!💕
thank you Tonya glad you enjoyed it :)
I fell into the Wikipedia hole about abandoned islands in Scotland recently and I think it would be an awesome video for you to do. (Mostly because I really want to see footage of those island :P) but there is one between the Orkney islands and John o' Groats called Stroma you should look up. Really fascinating stuff.
Absolutely amazing video of the castle.
We leave to start the nc500 next Saturday, can’t wait
Really a great route, you’ll love it
Beautiful drone footage👍
