King Cnut (Canute) was a real figure. Vinland saga just puts a spin on the historical context behind the events

Really sad to see Canute eventually following Swain's footsteps after Askeladd gave up everything to put him on the throne.
Wdym he's almost exactly as Askeladd, which was what the latter wanted. "Be Artorius wisdom and sword" with Askeladd recognizing Canute to be the king like Artorius who could change the world for the better.
And I said Canute did considering he retook England in just a few years, with way less bloodshed by resorting to typical Askeladd tactics, which while less honorable, still pretty effective and also banning pillaging of both goods and people.
