Actually, the odds of finding Raymond are a lot smaller than 1 in 391.
On mystery island tours, the game chooses a villager by picking a species at random and then picking a member of said species. Since there are 35 species and 23 cats, the chances of finding Raymond are 1 in 805 (35 species*23 cats) but increases with every cat you already have. This is why people encounter octopi all the time. Since there are only three, the odds of finding one are 1 in 105.

The rates on a mystery island are random. The game doesn't care which personalities you already have. However the rates on the campsite to have an certain personality is different. There is a 60% chance that a campsite villager will be a personality that is not present in your island. So if you have all personalities but smug, you'll have a 60% chance that a smug villager will appear. If you don't have smug and peppy then there's a 60% change that a smug or peppy villager will appear. But the mystery islands don't do that. It's totally random

I felt guilty for time traveling that first time and was like "I'm not gonna do it again till I'm 5 star!". My next day off I time traveled to get rid of villagers I didn't want and that's what I've been doing since.
I don't time travel to collect money, items, clothes, etc. So it is justifiable for me. My island is still 4 star because I am so dead set on finding the villagers I want.
Don't know, if you already know or someone else commented on it, but the personality doesn't matter on the nookmiles island. On the islands, first the species is randomly identified and then the game choses one of them. Like the species is cat and then you can get raymond. Not because Raymond is smug
The only time the game gives you villagers based on the personalities you donât have is through the campsite, not on nook miles islands! Just a tip!
I feel like it's so much easier to look for villagers via campsite, you don't need empty plots, just time travel and hope for the best
For me thatâs not true. I already got 3 lazy villagers and yesterday I got Beau on my campsite and he is also a lazy villager
Pauline W what he didn't add that it's not guaranteed so if you have a lazy villager it decreases the chances of getting that type not that it fully makes sure you won't be able to get one. It also increases the type of the one's you don't have (hope this helps)

As someone who doesnt have nintendo online and is saving 20 nookmile tickets to go hunting for a specific villager , this looks very frustrading so I think im just going to take anyone who looks cute to me to save time xD
Iâll be honest, I was one of those people who bought Raymond using actual money. My fiancĂ© has similar heterochromia, attitude, hair and glasses just like Raymond so I really wanted him. Iâd been searching for a month after I missed him visiting at my campsite. I probably spent 500+ NMTâs trying random islands to get him and got nothing so I caved and found a legit seller. The first thing raymond did was craft me gold armor DIYs so I think he was worth it. However; I wouldnât recommend doing this, the seller could have easily scammed me and it took a lot of trust on both sides to do what we did. Scamming is constantly happening to other people so stay safe, stay smart, and donât give your bank info out to anyone. If itâs too good to be true it probably is. A piece of game code is not worth losing your identity or savings over. And this goes for nook miles tickets too.

I LOST my mind because it was Fauna, and I wanted to invite her right away even though my island was full. I played her little card game, and she called resident services. But instead of asking me who to kick out, she said she overheard Tom Nook and Isabelle saying that someone was thinking about moving out. I asked who it was, and I was astounded when she said it was Bob. Bob is my only 1st tier villager on my island! My others right now are Flora, Freya, Pietro (who is for sale if anybody wants himđĄ), Derwin, Gayle, Savannah, Chadder, Hamlet, and Pierce. I LOVE Bob, and I also LOVE Fauna. i have over 200k miles i earned from time traveling and doing the nook miles plus tasks every day.. you can totally get some tickets yourself to start off and then trade with people to get more.

I know this comment is old or whatever, but all villagers have the exact same spawn rate. Some villagers (especially the new ones) are "rarer" than others because they don't usually have amiibo.

I saw Tia and almost cried... she is the cutest thing and her design reminds me of my mom. She collects teapots and elephant figurines so Tia is basically emblematic of her. I definitely need to search for her.

I got so lucky on my island. Raymond was my big dream villager. I built my campsite and there was a visitor. I was just going to let them leave no matter who they were because I had 100+ nmt set aside to find him. Go to my camp and Raymond is right there. I was so excited and happy
