- The Illusion D Rig has become widely known in recent times due to the success of the 2021 Carp Angler of the Year, Tom Maker. Tom uses this rig for 90% of his fishing and last year caught over 100 x 30lb carp on it!
This rig is best used over clean lake beds using a wafter hookbait for maximum efficiency.

I always use wafters and have been using this rig for years in combination with heli setup! super simple but super effective! I use two rigs and nothing more . multi rig and stiff D rig ! Might work better with a slightly softer material than fluocarbon /chod hook

Are you sure? This is only an “illusion” D rig, if you use “illusion” fluorocarbon made by FOX, it absolutely has to be this fluro carbon, or there is absolutely no “illusion” in it!!!!!!
Only watched for a second until I realised that it was FOX just trying to knock out more stock, with the rather sketchy and questionable tactic of renaming a rig lol

was using it in the late 80's all the way through the nineties, stiff d rig no illusions about it lol

I use the IQD rig allot but have never been able to do the whipping knot successfully, now I have seen this method, I think I'll try it.

Whats the total lenght of the rig from the eye of the hook to the end of the loop? Cheers Dennis
what happens if the fish ingested the micro swivel and wafter bait when the d ring pulls through?
not possible for the d to pull through, thats the point of blobbing the mono down.
Struggling to get the hook to sit flat on the deck seem a to be picking up at the eye end any advice?
Id say your wafter is to buoyant or hook not heavy enough 1 or other trim wafter or use next hook size down

I aways thought this rig was tied with a stiff rig chod style hook
Tom uses either quite happily. Both will work, a Stiff Rig hook will give you a wider gape ironically and a wide gape will make it more aggressive
@@fox_international I've actually used wide gape style hooks for this rig when I've ran out of chod style hooks and I'd probably say the hook holds tend to be that little bit better overall
Is he fishing that on a lead clip or helicopter? I always worry about rigs like this if the fish approaches from the lead side and the rig not being able to turn and catch hold due to there being no pivot point?
which ever you want. If the fish is going to do you it will. Don't over think your fishing and enjoy it....
Tom fishes this on a leadclip. The Illusion Fluorocarbon is pretty supple, supple enough to allow the rig to be sucked in from any direction

Anti tangle sleeve is not the way to go with this rig!! to guarantee the hook lays flat use 3-4mm cut off thick end of ananti tangle sleeve and a loop to alloy free movement at that end of the rig....👍
We’ve never had any problems using this with an anti tangle sleeve, the amount of fish Tom Maker catches using it should put and fears to bed, but either way will work 👍
I would certainly agree the anti tangle only hinders the rig it preforms so much better with a loop or tied to a double ring swivel. Falls point down every time, with an anti tangle sleeve this doesn’t happen
I wonder if this rig is so good because the fish can't see the hooklink, compared to coated braid?
