  • In this one (long, almost an hour of quality bodging!) I get to grips with getting the instrument cluster panel working and the associated wiring improved....The Central Warning Unit and the Ignition switch get in on the act..

Many thanks. I'm glad somebody got it. When I tried on my family they just looked blank.

Amazing job. I really enjoy your content. This reminds me of when I took the instrument cluster out of my 1990 Corvette. Same kind of struggle lol. Oh the modern day classics!!

Thanks. I'm not sure how lasting the repairs will be, but one step at a time.

had the same issue with my CWS...easiest way to confirm...plug in a new one...or...ground all of the pins on the black and yellow connectors going back to the dash pod..When you ground them, the light ( For whichever pin you are grounding) should light up in the cluster...if the light illuminates, most likely your CWS box needs to be replaced.

Thanks; In the end I forgot to film it, but I went over the entire board with a soldering iron and touched all the solder points. Its now seems to be working.

Another great video, and very nice Bodge done with visual Artfulness
I even went out to my car and had a look under dash to look for the 2x buttons and potentiometer, which are there
Switches work, but pot doesn't seem to do anything, so added to my list
I have a UK '82 4.5lt and it has the MPG gauge which doesn't work (everything else works), I'll also need to look at one day
When I turn lights on the 'Stop light' warnng light comes on, Exclamation mark is hand brake on, occaisionally on for another reason I haven't work out yet
Super informative videos, keep them coming, if you need any info or confirmation don't be shy happy to assist where I can

Thanks Pieter! Ref the milage meter I think that's only for the later versions of the CIS with the lambda valve (or whatever its called) maybe you have a later dash fitted, or are in luck with a later fuel system..

@@DavidJohnson-nh9io The MPG was an option, can't remember the year it started
There is a connector (not Lambda) stuck to the side of the furl distributor, with 3 wires coming out, others have a plug here that opted out of option
I don't have a '82 ROW wiring diagram only the US ones which are ofcourse L-Jet by then here the signal comes from the Fuel Injection controller as a sinewave of fuel being poured in

@@pieterschaar5613interesting! So in the basic CIS cars I guess that was a sensor that translated mass flow movement directly to the MPG gauge.

I can’t remember if you’ve changed out the fuel sender unit in the fuel tank, but if you haven’t, you might check the connection to the sender and the sender itself.
