I had three Tagoras between 1981 &1984 - it was the best car ever!! The 2.2 engine and the automatic gearbox wafted you along with incredible acceleration and comfort - those huge seats were like arnchairs.

I had a grey Tagora GLS back in the 80's. It was a very relaxing car to drive with a bright airy interior and good ergonomics. On the downside, the engine was a typically tappety Simca design and the front seats had no lumbar support. The rear seats however, were really comfy.

Beautiful car! I owned a 1981 Tagora 2.2 GLS from 1996-1997. I sold it at the end of 1997, and the buyer crashed it one day after I sold it :*(
I since learned that it was one of only 6 cars left in the U.K.

Well, unfortunately the economy was also not so good, and there were cars that had a better rustprevention, higher quality of materials and so on. Also big cars that use a lot of tuel were not loved, as you know the petrolprices were rising, as well. I must however be honest, it is a very nice car to drive with, and I find it very silent in noise while driving it. I must say, that I never knew that the car would drive so smoothly and soft. That was a real surprise.

Thanks for your compliments both! I will make a film from it´s engine next time that I will have the car, which will be at the 11th of september, then it is 35 years ago, that the Peugeot 604 was presented at the show in Paris at the Salon d´ Automobile, when I will go to a meeting of Peugeot 604´s over here in the Netherlands and off course I´m also welcome over there to come with my Tagora, to compare it with the Peugeot 604. I will try to make a film of that as well...

The Tagora never reached the United States. It is fair to say they hardly ever sold in Europe. Talbot had Car Parks full of them after production had stopped. Could not get rid of them.
A bit like the Edsel in the States. It was a rarity even when it was new, and a collectors item now.
I had two Talbot Solaras which were very similar, but a smaller vehicle. Very underrated. I bought mine ridiculously cheap second hand and ran them for years.

This suprises me too cause I knew that a lot of european cars which were sold in the states, were not loved cause americans didn't like them cause of the engine, cause of the quality, and so on

Tagoras were made in France. Underated cars- the V6 is a good drive; just a bit odd to look at and released into a market already saturated with Pug 604, Volvo 260, Renault 30 as well as the German cars.

my uncle has a brand new Tagora 2.2 with only 13 miles on the clock, he was partner in a Talbot Peugeot franchise that went bust in the early 80`s and some of the inventory `found it`s way` into his barn . He also has a samba which was only used as a demonstrator. I joke that when he dies I will put these cars on ebay :-O

Is it for sale? I really want it as I have a Murena 2.2 and it would make a perfect pair. This is a serious request and would even consider swapping it for a Blue Renault Aventime in almost perfect condition. However cash is not a problem and would prefer that. Thank you.

thank you for your comment! I know, but in Spain is also the ONLY country, as I know, that a Solara is delivered as DIESEL. Not anywhere else..

According to the UK website How Many Left, there is 1 Tagora in the UK. That is, apparently on the road.
However, I bet you could drive around in that all day and no one would bat an eye lid !!

I almost never saw a Chrysler 180 over here. I am 38 years old now, I think I almost never saw a Tagora myself back in the days. I reckon I saw the first one somewhere in 2002. Solara I can remember same as the Horizon.

  • @subzero92MK

  • @gti505
    @gti505  Před 12 lety

no, the Dodge Omni looks a bit like a Talbot Horizon, but as far as I know, that´s the only simular car that looks like a Talbiot. The Tagora was not very succesful, therefor, we love it even more!

I had a 1982 Tagora 2.2 GL years ago. The worst car I've had in 45 years of driving. I had to scrap it when nobody would buy it, even at a give-away price, and dealers refused to take it as a trade-in. The perfect example of an utter lemon.
