Ashely pissed me off beyond belief this game. Everyone of the old crew (Even Ex-Alliance Pilot joker) didn’t hesitate to join Shepard. They trusted Shepard even if he was working with Cerberus. If I wasn’t doing a Paragon run in ME3 I would have shot her.

It was bad writing and they awkwardly try to fix it in ME3 with Ash's / Kaidan's explanation. It especially doesn't make sense they doubt Shepard if you bring Garrus with you to Horizon because he is 1) Also an ally / friend of Shepard and why would he follow her if she was actually under the control of Cerberus? 2) Garrus clearly trusts Shepard enough to work with a anti-alien organization like Cerberus. Ash doubts Shepard? Ok, I guess I can buy that somewhat... but why does she also doubt Garrus, her former crewmate, as well? He didn't die and get rebuilt, doe she think Garrus would actually follow Shepard if she was being controlled by Cerberus? The argument makes no sense. Sadly it was just poorly thought out and written - they needed a reason to keep the Virmire survivor off the ship because they wanted a new crew for the game, so they made a lazy reason why they don't trust Shep / don't join.
In truth it is a LOT less messy if you don't romance one of them, it's less of a mess. But if you romance either one of the them, it completely breaks the logic of the Virmire Survivor - they are supposed to be in love, and the survivor just abandons Shepard? They think Cerberus is mind controlling her / him and they DON'T join Shep to help them, break the mind control, etc? It's nonsense.

@@Hathur That’s probably why I was pissed. I did romance Ashley in ME1 so that’s probably why the whole thing made no damn sense to me. I could say that they’ve could have came up with a better reason for having the Virmire survivor stay behind other than that “Yew mind control, yew mind control by Cerberus baddies!” bullshit, but nevertheless it’s still my favorite game out of the three. I just don’t think the devs were as rushed as they were with ME3 so I have no clue as to why the writing in that moment plummeted.
